Posted: 18 Jul 2021 02:28 AM PDT Greetings all, I'm one of the developer of Pacstall, which aims to be a new kind of package manager for Ubuntu based distributions. What is Pacstall? Why do I even need it?Pacstall is a package manager for Ubuntu based distributions, and installs packages using pacscripts, similar to PKGBUILD for AUR. Pacstall aims to fill the gap between AUR and Flatpaks. Pacstall takes in files known as pacscripts that contains the necessary contents to build packages, and builds them into executables on your system. All pacscripts are stored in a GitHub repo. Pacscripts need to go through two layer security check. We use pacscript to install the package using workflows and in VMs to ensure that all pacscripts are safe and don't cause any harm to your system. You can submit pacscripts by creating a pull request. You can be sure that your system will not have any issues when installing package using pacstall. Pacstall contains many packages that are not in apt repos or require using PPAs. It also has packages like neovim-git which requires manual compiling. Hmm, looks interesting. Tell more.We have released version 1.5 of Pacstall yesterday. It introduced some of the best features we can ever imagine. Sneak peek of some features:
Edit: You can create your own repo and use it to install packages from pacscripts. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:08 PM PDT hello guys a few days ago I configure UFW and I have the following error there is no way to solve it I have a main host and the database I want the second host to connect without being limited by the protocols in UFW the protocols witch i mean is located in /etc/ufw/before.rules since when receiving many bot attacks in my minecraft server we have limited the connections of the same IP and that makes the luckperms fails to connect to por 3306 and there is no way to fix it I have to reload UFW and then it works for me again please help This is the protocols i add in /etc/ufw/before.rules # Connlimit -A ufw-before-input -p tcp -m connlimit --connlimit-above 18 --connlimit-mask 32 -j DROP # Ratelimit -A ufw-before-input -m hashlimit --hashlimit-above 25/minute --hashlimit-burst 8 --hashlimit-mode srcip --hashlimit-htable-expire 120000 --hashlimit-name ratelimit -j DROP [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:01 AM PDT I don't know if I have made a complete mess of my Fedora system or what. But I am so confused. This is the output of "dnf repolist enabled" https://pastebin.com/raw/qPfP2vfm And this is the output of "flatpak list" https://pastebin.com/raw/iv3Urh8n I was trying to understand why Steam never shows up in the Software app unless you have Flatpak "enabled(?)". The only repositories I have manually enabled AFAIK are the two RPM Fusion ones to that I can use proprietary nVidia drivers. But... it looks like I'm using the flatpak version of nVidia drivers??? Would that explain why CUDA is only working in Blender Flatpak version?? I am sorry to be ridiculous. Coming from Manjaro and Debian(Siblings) I find software management in Fedora to be a bit (overly)complicated. Have I done something wrong or what?? [link] [comments] |

Rockstar launcher not starting, when trying to launch gta 5 from Steam Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:01 AM PDT For some reason I cannot launch gta 5 from steam, as it is not launching rockstar launcher. When I click "Play" in steam, it lets me choose if I want to load online or single player. When I choose that, it shows "running', for a second, and after that, nothing happens, and I see "Play" button again. I tried to launch R* launcher with steam, by adding it as non-steam game and it outright refused to start. Lutris just redirects me to steam, and I end up with the same problem. I tried to launch it with wine, and it started up, however, I was not able to login into my account, as I could not type in my email and password in the input boxes. what am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Here are the specs: OS: Linux Mint 20.2 Kernel: 5.11.0-22-generic CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x MOBO: MSI MAG B550M MORTAR RAM: 16GB GPU: RTX 2060 SUPER PS: I tried running it with proton 5.13-6, 6.3-5, experimental [link] [comments] |
Any Way To Make A Portable Linux Using An SD Card Reader / USB Flash Drive? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 05:58 PM PDT I'm interested in creating a portable linux os where the flash drive or micro sd card can be used as its own hard drive. I want to be able to have an os on the go that I can use on any computer without having to install the os to the computers hard drive. The programs and files all stay on the sd card or flash drive. Any way I can do this? [link] [comments] |

Audio input from bluetooth doesn't work on Fedora 34 but works on PopOS 21.04. Posted: 18 Jul 2021 11:16 AM PDT Hello everyone. I am currently using Fedora 34. When connecting my Bluetooth headphones, audio out, as well as all the different setting options exist. However, no matter what I do, audio out will not work, trying to tweak the settings will break bluetooth settings. Gnome-settings will crash and bluetooth devices will not work at all. I tried this tweak But to no luck, the system will not work and will crash my system At the worst of times, the login screen will bug on GDM, locking me out of my system. I had to restore from my Timeshift backup one too many times. Any help with this issues would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 04:18 AM PDT I've been using Ubuntu for a few months. Today when I opened my computer, another desktop called LXQt desktop was installed on the login screen. I didn't install this (I think), so should I be worried? Is this possibly a dependency of some other innocent program? If it is a virus, how do I get rid of it? [link] [comments] |
In a text file, how do you delete all text after the 45th character on each line? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:36 AM PDT I'm trying to trim down a list of YouTube URLs that I've taken from my bookmarks, so that I only have the bare URLs. [link] [comments] |
(KDE Neon) nothing detecting PWM fans Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:18 AM PDT i have 2 sets of fans in my system, but linux is not detecting either of them. Fancontrol-GUI doesn't pick them up, sensors-detect doesn't, and neither does pwmconfig. normally i wouldn't bother with it, but the fans tend to spin up to almost full speed even when idling, so i'd like to fix it. any ideas? Linux doesn't detect the internal hard disk Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:22 AM PDT I have been having this problem for a while I tried installing Ubuntu and then zorin os (zorin os preferred) and every time I try to install it, the os doesn't recognise my internal hard disk It is the same hard disk on which windows is installed and I have tried seperating a volume for installation, saving the seperation process for the installer and anything that came to mind but can't get it to recognise it Any suggestions? I m currently running windows 11 preview and want to dual boot to zorin for productivity purposes Edit: fixed thanks for all your help I couldn't find the sata option in my bios, acer hides it And it has to be opened by ctrl +s [link] [comments] |

How to install Xanmod kernel on Arch Linux? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 06:09 PM PDT Hi!, I'm on an Arch Linux derivative (ArcCraft) and this is my first time installing a custom kernel. I try to install it with yay, since in the website says that the xanmod port is only available in the aur. Everything seems to be working fine but then I get this:
I would really appreciate the help, thank you in advance. Also I would like to know how to make it the default kernel that grub boots. [link] [comments] |
Spotify Crashes Most of the Time Posted: 18 Jul 2021 06:02 AM PDT Almost every single time I try to open Spotify on Linux it crashes. This happened on all three distros I tried: (Arch, Ubuntu and currently Mint). To me it looks like it happens less frequently when it's the first program I open when I turn the computer on but honestly that doesn't make any sense. Is it just me? Is there any fix to this? Because sometimes I simply give up on it and go to Youtube to listen to music. [link] [comments] |

[Realtek Azalia] Is there something like this on Linux? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 04:55 AM PDT this picture is not owned by me Especially on old computers, when some jacks are broken, you can always repurpose something like the mic jack to be the audio output jack. I haven't found a GUI solution on Linux that is as convenient as the driver on Windows. Hence the question, Is there something like this on Linux? Thank you [link] [comments] |

External HDD is getting connected in "READ ONLY" mode to my Raspberry Pi. How do i fix this? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 02:46 AM PDT Hi guys, this is what my file-system looks like: The final two (sda5 & sda6) are the 2 partitions on my 1 TB external HDD. This external HDD earlier was the internal HDD of my Windows laptop. I converted it & have been using it as an external HDD since last 5-6 years after upgrading my Windows to SSD. So why does plugging it into my RPi put it in READ ONLY mode? I want full rw access on the RPi. When i plug into my Windows PC it reads/writes just fine. Any ideas? Thanks! Edit - i've tried the following solutions in my searches, but nothing is working :( https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=219070 https://chewett.co.uk/blog/430/raspberry-pi-read-file-system-fix-solved/ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 02:45 AM PDT I have installed ubuntu on an old Dell laptop with intel and AMD R5 M430 gpu, while Intel works fine, AMD isn't, ubuntu gives me the option to launch an application using dedicated gpu but when I do the whole system freeze. I don't know if it matters but when I use the command grep VGA it only list intel gpu, AMD gpu is listed as a Display controller. I know Ubuntu already have AMD drivers installed, but maybe they are not compatible with older gpus, I have tried Oibaf drivers but It doesn't seem to help that much. Please help. [link] [comments] |
