Can I Do Anything I Do On Ubuntu On Linux Mint? Posted: 12 Jul 2021 10:47 PM PDT I have a old laptop with like 4-6ish GB of RAM, and it's running regular Ubuntu GNOME. However, I tried out Linux Mint on another laptop I have through a Virtual Machine, and I really like Linux Mint. I know that Linux Mint is built off of Ubuntu, but I'm wondering what limitations Linux Mint would have compared with Ubuntu? I'm mainly using stuff like GNU Radio, UHD USRP, MATLAB, etc. in the realm of DSP and communications stuff. I know the package manager is both apt, but I tend to build from source since I sometimes need specialized stuff. [link] [comments] |

dns_probe_finished_no_internet help Posted: 13 Jul 2021 02:33 AM PDT The last time I had this problem (last week), I had to format the computer and go back to ubuntu 18.04.5 because the problem was not solvable The problem was caused by Nord VPN, I don't know why (it works normally, but suddenly it causes this problem) The important thing is that I had to use Nord VPN again and the problem occurred again, but this time I tried the first solution in this link https://askubuntu.com/questions/622470/dns-probe-finished-bad-config -ubuntu error -14-04 And it got worse because resolv.conf was erased in the first two commands and the third command didn't work (resolvconf: command not found) So what should I do to solve this problem and what should I do so that it doesn't happen again (don't answer with (don't use nord vpn) please) I posted this using another computer [link] [comments] |
Two drives, one for Linux, the other contains only games Posted: 13 Jul 2021 05:59 AM PDT Hi! I have Linux Mint Debian, and soon i will add next to my SSD an HDD, where i will move in it all my videogames, so that if i change/update/break distro i can reinstall the OS without losing my heaviest files. Is this possible? If yes, how does it works? My plan is to mainly use Steam and Lutris, which will be installed in the main SSD, while booting the games inside the HDD. Thanks for the help! how can we verify whether a computer supports S4 hibernation in Linux? Posted: 13 Jul 2021 11:25 AM PDT I'd like to buy a new laptop that supports S4 hibernation in Linux. Is there a simple procedure to verify this while using a live USB drive (eg at the retail store)? On my own computer, I've tried "cat /sys/power/state" and it returned "freeze mem", as opposed to "freeze mem disk". Also I did "sudo pm-hibernate" and it did nothing. Do these things necessarily mean my system is not capable of suspend-to-disk hibernation in Linux? [link] [comments] |

Pulseaudio and hesuvi Wav files? Posted: 13 Jul 2021 11:00 AM PDT I tried using this https://gist.github.com/kode54/2519179722432fc00be57ffb5155715f but it says hesuvi_convert does not exists. I followed the steps here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VFIO/comments/k3u36r/psa_you_can_get_hesuvi_on_your_vfio_with/ Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
KDE: FeedReader notifications appear as Plasma Desktop notifications Posted: 13 Jul 2021 10:39 AM PDT Hi, I'm running Manjaro with KDE 5.22.3. I have an RSS reader named FeedReader running all day. Every 15 minutes it checks for new articles and I get a notification telling me it found x new stories etc. The problem is I dont want these notifications, but they appear as Plasma Desktop notifications instead of FeedReader notifications. I assume there could be other important things in Plasma Notifications so better to not turn them all off, but I'm unable to find a way to get the RSS reader's notifications to appear as FeedReader, which would allow me to silence that one app. Any ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Trouble with TP-Link T6E wifi card, Manjaro Posted: 13 Jul 2021 10:19 AM PDT Howdy! I just dual booted windows with Manjaro a few days ago. For the life of me, after hours of searching, I have yet to get my wifi card, a TP-Link T6E wifi card to work like it does for windows. I have tried the drivers, broadcom-wl-dkms, with no luck. I assume the problem is in the communication with the card. I have resorted to using a laptop connect w/ an ether cable for use, and it is no very convenient. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |

What is your favorite alternative to Notion/Craft? Posted: 13 Jul 2021 08:50 AM PDT I'm seeing a lot of these types of productivity apps online. I'm wondering what is your preferred open source variant? Desktop icons on Ubuntu, why are they so difficult? Posted: 12 Jul 2021 11:38 PM PDT I recently found out that no matter what I did, I simply could not drag an application icon from the system tray to the desktop to be placed as a shortcut there. I followed some guides online and figured out that in order to make desktop icons for apps, one has to download gnome tweaks, go to a system folder that hosts .desktop files for all the apps, copy it over to the desktop, and enable its execution. On my primary machine where I use Windows, all I have to do to is just drag and drop a shortcut to the desktop from the installation directory. Better yet, installation wizards often create a desktop shortcut icon when I check a little box in the wizard, automatically. The current method seems overwhelmingly non-user friendly. Surely, there is a better way to create desktop icons for Ubuntu? I create and delete desktop shortcuts quite a lot more often than most people, so this is a hassle. I use TailsOS, which is based on Ubuntu. [link] [comments] |
Need help troubleshooting crashing VNC sessions Posted: 13 Jul 2021 06:48 AM PDT Hello everyone. I have a VNC issue. A user is sharing his server with other users. He uses session 1 and the other user will use session 2, 3, etc. After a little while, it seems like all of the sessions, except for session 1, are hanging with a black screen. Might be related: It started happening once we moved his home dir from
Looking at I hope I got the relevant bits from the log, otherwise there are plenty more errors but I'm not entirely sure if they're VNC related. For example: Any assistance troubleshooting this would be great :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jul 2021 05:52 AM PDT So I updated to the new version of POP OS and apperently I updated my KDE with it two. Thus changing how the volume and brightnes controll display when I use my media keys. But I was tinkering with KDE (trying to use i3 with it) and when I gave up. I was triying to get KDE back to how it had it before. (Everything done with the GUI settings app). And I turend my volume controles back to a square box without the number I had before the update: So I am asking two questions here. How can I get back to the new way of displaying volume and brightness? I also apperently broke the bar that is under the speaker icon so it doesn't go up or down with volume. Any way to fix that? (This happened while customizing from the gui so I guess it is not that hard to fix, but I have no idea) [link] [comments] |
How to install wallpapers from Linux Mint on Ubuntu? Posted: 13 Jul 2021 01:26 AM PDT Hello. Linux Mint has some really nice wallpapers. On Mint itself, it was possible to install not only the current wallpapers, but also all previous with the usage of command line (mint-backgrounds-*) if I'm not mistaken. On Ubuntu, hoverer, that does not work, as I get an error saying that such package cannot be found. Has anybody an idea how to download them with command line on Ubuntu? I think that while the most obvious solution - add Mint repos (somehow) wouldn't be a very safe option. [link] [comments] |
Fedora 34. Deja Dup backup error, doesn’t have permission to write to external partition. Posted: 13 Jul 2021 01:20 AM PDT I'm trying to run my first DejaDup backup to an ext4 partition on an external hard drive. I created the partition using gparted. [Manjaro]Vulkan works fine on Nvidia dGPU but not Intel iGPU Posted: 13 Jul 2021 12:27 AM PDT Basicly title. I could just switch over my GPU, but from what I've researched/found, my iGPU should be able to handle Vulkan without an issue(Intel UHD620). I would rather not have to utilise my dedicated GPU when I want to run lighter titles on Proton, or switch using Optimus-manager in the first place due to the entire 'relog' thing just for light games. Running Manjaro GNOME. vulkaninfo shows this: [link] [comments] |

looking for alternatives to outlook. Posted: 13 Jul 2021 02:34 AM PDT I have been slowly trying to get away from big tech companies and so for so good! I need a replacement for outlook and ZOHO seems like a good alternative. However, I have been hearing that ZOHO looks through peoples emails but not too sure if its true. Do you think ZOHO is a good alternative? [link] [comments] |
