Laptops with Ryzen 3700u are still great because of its powerful GPU?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 10:47 AM PDT

The ryzen 3700u has a gpu almost as powerful as the top end 5000 series laptop processors, according to wikipedia here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Ryzen_processors#Zen+_based_2

It has a 1792 gflops integrated gpu, which is almost as much as 5700u's 1946 gflops. it is more powerful than most 4000 and 5000 series laptop cpus according to the gflops rating.

So does this mean that ryzen 3700u laptops are still a killer deal now in 2021 due to their powerful gpu? for those of us who cannot afford proper gaming laptops.

    any opinions appreciated.

Which is better? Or is there a better option?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 10:45 AM PDT

Going to college soon so I'm looking at laptops. I might do some light gaming on them but I need something that doesn't look all flashy and gamery. The HP Envy seems great but doesn't have a GPU while this Lenovo Ideapad does and still doesn't look too bad. Are there any noticeable differences in speed, quality, display, etc between the two? Is there a better option? Thanks.

    gaming laptop bottleneck

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 08:17 AM PDT

Hey all, i've recently considered purchasing a gaming laptop and happened to come across one I was interested in. My only question is will an intel core i5 10300h cpu bottleneck an rtx 3060 mobile laptop gpu. I'd appreciate any help I can get, since the answer to this seems to be obscure as I am unable to find a solid answer to this online. Thank you once again.

Can I mod my laptop to have a backlit keyboard?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 02:04 PM PDT

I've had my Dell Inspiron 15 3583 for some time and its been great. I just would've liked to have a backlit keyboard. I searched a bit on the internet and found this amazon listing for a keyboard that fits my model and has a backlight, but it says I have to make sure that I have a "backlight interface" in my motherboard to connect the backlight to. As my keyboard is not backlit originally, I don't think I have one. So is there another way to get a backlit keyboard for my laptop? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z18XFZJ/ref=twister_B07Z1FGM6N?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

should i use a carbon thermal pad to replace the stock thermal paste on my laptop?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:52 PM PDT

i have a Dell XPS 7590, its nearly 2 years old so the warranty is gone. i use it a LOT and recently its been overheating when i just have 1 application open, and either way i know i need to open it up and clean the fans. i'm just not quite sure if i want to open it every year or so to replace the paste. i watched this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t39PR37i6kU, starts around 2:45) and it seems like that carbon thermal pad is a really good solution since they claim its reusable.

i checked some of the reviews on amazon, and it looks like theyre split down the middle regarding use for laptops. some people say it didnt work at all, some say its fantastic. i'm sure its a difference in how different laptops are built.

is it worth a try? should i get a thing of thermal paste just in case it doesnt work out?

Ded 8gb or int 16gb (ram upgradeable)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:38 PM PDT

So i have somewhat finally fixed the laptop, one last point of confusion is that the laptop has only 2 models

    Iris xe vs mx450:

8gb ram(upgradable upto 32gb) with dedicated graphics card

16gb ram(upgradeable upto 32gb) with integrated graphics card

If i buy the 8gb(4+4) one then i have to buy 2×8gb for 16gb ram on the laptop.

Do i need 16gb right away on a laptop or should i upgrade later on

For context, i am a to be engineering student. Main uses are programming, auto cad maybe, some casual gaming

Roblox on a windows visa computer

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:35 PM PDT

when I was around 10 years old I played Roblox basically every single day for a very long time. The computer is now 15 years old. It started crashing unexpectedly every single day. Eventually it crashed so much that you can't even get like passed 10 minutes with it. Since it was expensive, we felt like it would be a waste to throw it away. My dad went to best buy today to see if there is any chance of fixing it. The problem was a number of factors and one of which was overheating of the cpu damage. Another reason was the fact its a windows vista but one time someone came over to fix it and it was fixed for like a short while, but he added windows 10 to the computer. So another big factor was that its a computer running windows 10 when it wasn't suppose to. It is a Sony computer, but I don't know the exact name of the laptop other than its a Sony. My question is, was it part of my fault being a dumb kid binge playing Roblox every day and causing it to overheat too much? I did remember it overheating but I just pushed away as "normal" (I was 10-11, and knew nothing about electronics). Also the best buy guy said he couldn't save it, I also personally knew that it would most likely not ever be saved especially now that its literally 15 years old, however I just want to know if any part of it was my fault.

Long battery life laptops w/ pen for note taking?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:24 PM PDT

Hi, I have been unable to find any laptops that I like so far that meet this criteria. I live in Canada, and I don't want it to be very expensive (no more than 1,100$ CAD).

Is there a sort of industry standard which I could go for?

I have a bad pixel / really a tiny chip in the screen should I disclose that on ebay?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:11 PM PDT

I never noticed this until I was cleaning my screen perfectly to get it ready to sell on ebay.

I thought it was something just stuck on the screen at first but realized its a tiny chip in the screen that is only about 2-4 pixels big, its very small. I guess it looks like a bad pixel when the screen is on as it darkens the area.

I guess I have no choice but to disclose this on ebay when selling the laptop used?

Looking for a laptop for college.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 11:57 AM PDT

I've decided to save for a laptop for college. I'm looking for one in the 600-800 dollar range but anything slightly more (or slightly less) would be great. I don't plan to do much gaming with it, if I do it most likely would only be risk of rain 2. I plan on using this laptop for college and I want to learn Python on it. Preferable windows. Can anyone recommend me a laptop or at least some decent specs to look for? Thank you.

Sudden burning smell from laptop right before a rattling sound was made. Computer froze. After turning it off and flipping it around i noticed these two marks. The bigger spot was hot to touch. Is it still safe to use or at least recover my storage? Is this a battery bulge?

Is there specific types of SSD and RAM upgrades that fit each laptop or are they all the same

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 07:06 AM PDT

Hey guys, I just bought my first laptop, the Evoo Gaming 15.6. Here's the link if you want to take a better look- https://www.walmart.com/ip/EVOO-Gaming-15-6-Laptop-FHD-60Hz-Intel-Core-i5-10300H-Processor-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1650-THX-Spatial-Audio-256GB-SSD-8GB-RAM-RGB-Backlit-Keyboard-HD-C/915598119?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&&adid=22222222227402929166&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=512938845352&wl4=pla-1217984918325&wl5=9003510&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=915598119&veh=sem&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImfaCw_jK8QIVUys4Ch3u-QKhEAQYASABEgIMLPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I'm looking to upgrade the storage and ram and hopefully be able to install it in the laptop rather than just buying something external. So I'm wondering if I can just look up any laptop ssd or ram to add in or is there certain compatibility I need to look for.

Please Help - Deciding between RAM or GPU upgrade?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 04:50 AM PDT

I'm needing to buy a new laptop soon and have settled on a MacBook Air. I use Photoshop, Premiere and Illustrator fairly often. (all videos I've seen say it's more than capable with those programs and its M1 chip)

My question is, will upgrading 8gb to 16gb RAM be better than upgrading 7-core GPU to 8-core GPU?

Which upgrade will make my use of those programs better overall, or even make a longer lasting device?

    Thanks :)
