    MSI GP76 Leopard or Alienware M15 R4

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 01:50 PM PDT

I'm looking for a gaming laptop. I want the Nvidia RTX 3070. I'm not an intense gamer but I just want something that does really well and will somewhat be future proof (as much as possible for a mid tier laptop).

I really like MSI, but obviously it comes with a heavier price tag. Right now I can get the MSI GP76 leopard for $2100. These are the specs listed on Xotic; 17.3" FHD 240Hz Intel® Core™ i7-11800H GeForce RTX™ 3070 Up to 64GB RAM 1TB NVMe SSD ~1-2 Hrs 6.39 lbs

I'm thinking about the Alienware because it's on sale, I know it's generally not as good of quality. But it's on sale at Best Buy for $1800.

    The specs on that are:

    Alienware - m15 R4 - 15.6" FHD Gaming laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 512GB Solid State Drive - Dark Side of the Moon

So the question is, is $300 more worth getting the MSI? Or would the Alienware be fine? Again, I'm not an intense gamer. And I don't know a wholeeeee lot about computers. But I do know I want the RTX3070 though. So for someone like me who isn't going to mess with the setting a whole lot and will just be playing mostly world of Warcraft, call of duty, and other Xbox game pass games... as well as a little bit of video editing (for personal use), which would you do?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be great. Thanks!

    A question about upgrading Ram.

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 01:14 PM PDT

Hello, my brother and I recently got two identical Lenovo Legion 5 laptop's. Both of them have 8gb's of ram and an extra slot for another 8gb stick. I've thought of three different options and would like to learn which would be best for my brother and I. Note: The original stick is made by Kingston, the extra stick I'm looking at has the same specs but is made by Crucial.

Option 1: Install a Crucial 8gb ram stick into both laptops. Then there'd be one Kingston and one Crucial. Would any problems arise from these being different companies?

Option 2: Install two Crucial 8gb ram sticks into my laptop and give my old Kingston stick to my brother, he'd then have two Kingston sticks. Would any problems arise from the Kingston stick transferring from one laptop to another? Would one laptop be better, even though the sticks are seemingly the same specs?

Option 3: Install two Crucial 8gb ram sticks into both laptops. (This option seems safest but is the most expensive, and would result in the original two Kingston sticks going to waste).

I hope the answer to my question isn't to obvious, I just want to be certain before purchasing. Thanks!

Help my laptop to feel young again

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 12:51 PM PDT

I have my laptop for 6 years now. I've got a new PC to replace it this year, but I don't think the laptop deserves to be abandoned. So I'd like to spend few bucks to slightly upgrade it, but what to buy? I just want it to be faster when doing normal stuff and slightly more powerful if I want to play some older or 2D games.

    The specs. are:

    CPU: Intel i7-5500U 2x2.4 GHz

GPU: Nvidia GeForce 820M 2 GB

    RAM: Hynix DDR3 SODIMM 8GB 1600MHz

    HDD: Toshiba 500GB, 2,5", 5400rpm, SATAIII

I definitely want to upgrade to 500 GB SSD. Also, today I noticed that the RAM is pretty weak, so I'm thinking about faster 16 GB. But the problem is that I don't know what should I look for and what will be compatible (and not so expensive). Can you help me?

    Updating a Asus X750J

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 12:30 PM PDT

I have been on the hunt for a laptop for quite some time. A buddy of mine had given me this computer (Asus X750J 1TB gaming ). Its sitting on the shelf and have not used it a few years .. Its a good computer what I have been told, its just 10 years old. My question is can this laptop be updated? If so what all do I need. Not much of a PC gamer... But I figured since its 10 years old it needs to be updated .. Thanks for your help guys and gals of Reddit.

Help about which laptop I should buy?? (Asus or Dell)

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 06:12 AM PDT

Hi! So i'm trying to buy a new laptop. Around 3k to 6k UAE dirhams (so I guess about 800-1600 USD)

I want something new that'll last for a few years, is quick and easy to use, great writing keyboard & can handle light gaming (ex: among us…).

I'm a law student so I don't need much in it besides the usual Office apps, but I definitely do a whole lot of typing & presentations.

My best options i believe are between :

    1) Dell XPS 13 7390, 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10510U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel UHD Graphics, 13.3" FHD ;

    or 2) ASUS vivobook 14 K413EQ-AM226T Laptop i7-1165G7/16GB/1TB SSD/NVIDIA GeForce MX350 2GB/14 Inch FHD/60Hz/Windows 10

I realise they're both the same but if anyone has tried either or has any idea about them or similar laptops specs (I know the Vivobook s15 might be good too?), do let me know!!!

Help with ROG Zephyrus GX501GI Charger Adapter replacement

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 08:09 AM PDT

As it says in the title, I need help finding a replacement charger cable for my laptop and I'm in the UK. I've had a nightmare of a time trying to find something but there's only Chinese replacements available with low seller ratings. I'd prefer to buy an official one of possible, but even their sites say they're unavailable. Coming here as a last effort before gambling with dodgy sites. The specs required are 230W, 19.5V, 11.8A and it's a 6mm/3.7mm connector. Please help in any way, I am devastated that I might not be able to even turn my laptop back on. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

More powerful Vivobook $200 cheaper than another model?

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 11:51 AM PDT

    So I'm shopping for a new work laptop and I stumbled upon what I thought was a good deal: https://www.newegg.com/indie-black-asus-vivobook-s513ia-db74-mainstream/p/N82E16834235551 Vivobook 15" IPS, Ryzen 7 4700U, 8GB RAM, 1TB SSD - $939

    Then I found this: https://www.newegg.com/indie-black-asus-s513ua-ds74-mainstream/p/N82E16834235718 Vivobook 15" IPS, Ryzen 7 5700U, 8GB RAM, 1TB SSD - $720

The only difference at all that I can find is the cheaper laptop has a better processor. Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

I’m a noob when it comes to laptops- How do I remove the little screws with the white X? They are flat/no grooves. I’ve tried using my fingers and esd pliers but can get it out. Trying to put a secondary ssd in my new laptop. Also I’m assuming I can move that tape/wire that’s in the second ssd slot?
