What could be done when working Solo Android Developer in a company

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:10 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I've been thinking this thing more often. I've been working as a Solo Android developer in my company. Everything is good, the company is good, they just want me to provide them a bugless working application and they are promoting their applications to other companies. We have also an iOS developer.

When I started, they gave me a Java app and they said that they will change the backend and I discussed it with them. Firstly I tried to refactor the app. I migrated to the Kotlin. Separated some logic from UI, solved many bugs and now I have a fully working app, and they just satisfied.

Yesterday I found myself bored when developing this app because I couldn't find what to do with this app. Like adding some architectural things, shortening the classes, separation of concerns doesn't make sense since I am alone. I even open tickets to myself and creating branches from these tickets, as soon as solve them merging my branch to the release candidate branch.

So my question is to ask you how can I motivate myself when working alone. Do I need to job change or just add something recent in android development (coroutines etc etc. ) which they are not concern about? When nobody cares about these approaches, you are not getting motivated.

    Thanks

Request to postpone 2nd tech interview with final interview already scheduled

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 10:53 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I'm applying as an Android dev. Here's the company's interview process:

    1. Phone screening by recruiter
    2. Codility (got 100% here)
    3. Tech screening (1hr)
    4. Tech interview (DSA + Android specific questions, 1.5hr)
    5. System design interview (app & backend, 1.5hr)
    6. Cultural & Behavioral Fit Interview

I've finished 1 to 4. They scheduled 5 and 6 today and tomorrow, respectively. I was surprised they scheduled the final interview also.

Here's the issue: I've never taken a system design interview before. The recruiter gave me pointers so I have a better idea, however this made me realize how unprepared I was. Two hours before the interview, I chickened out and decided to ask for a reschedule. I was honest with my reason: I was not confident I will perform well and needed more time to study. I asked for 2 weeks since I needed to file for vacation leave on my current work. They have not replied yet.

Did this hurt my chances for this job? I've invested so much effort into this, I did not want to risk a bad interview because I was unprepared.

Had anyone success filing a DMCA counter notification?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:16 PM PDT

My game was taken down the Play Store because of a DMCA takedown notice. I never used any copyrighted content, so I decided to send a counter notification.

Now the bot keeps telling me

We are unable to take further action on your request because it does not provide all required information.

Well, it is a form and I have filled every mandatory part of it. When asking what information is missing, guess what I got replied? Bingo:

We are unable to take further action on your request because it does not provide all required information.

The bot has a remarkable reply time of around 5 days, by the way. So, does anyone know which are the magic words to pass the bot?

Questions about using AMD Ryzen 5900X with Android Studio

Questions about using AMD Ryzen 5900X with Android Studio

    Hello Android Dev Community,

I installed Android Studio on my Ryzen System(5900X). At the end of the installation I got the message: "Android Emulator Hypervisor Driver for AMD Processors installation failed. To install Android Emulator Hypervisor Driver for AMD Processors follow the instructions found at: https....."

In SDK Manager, it says that Android Emulator Hypervisor Driver for AMD Processors (installer) is installed:

    https://preview.redd.it/qxijh2h619b71.png?width=770&format=png&auto=webp&s=d9355b124cde4e49a06df193738cf4fba347f75d

    My two questions:

    1. Is it installed or not? Because at the end of the installation I got the error message from above but in SDK Tools it says installed
    2. Would I benefit from it when I only test the app locally on my smartphone and not in the emulator?

    Thank you

    "Company Name" when publishing app?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:38 PM PDT

    Hey

Im absolutely sorry to bother you with this stupid question but Im currently going through the last step which is building in-app purchases which includes all kinds of configurations in the google play console. Currently Im stuck at adding a payment account (not sure what it is called in english exactly) and they want

    • Name of the company
    • Products that Im selling
    • Customer Support mail
    • Name on Credit Card Bill

So I am the developer but the idea and planning of the app was with 2 friends of mine. We dont have a registered company or anything - do we need one or is this just something like a "username" ? Also when I give them my private credit card numner, name etc. can this be changed later or cause any issues?

Probably overthinking and a dumb question but Im a bit cautious..

    Admob eCPM

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:12 PM PDT

    Hi,

Do newly added apps and ad units need time for eCPM to stabilize? It seems that the eCPM is all over the place. In my previous app which is advertised to the same countries, the eCPM was way higher. When I added a new app and added new ad units the eCPM is crazy all over the place. What affects eCPM?

New security mechanisms per android version

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:47 AM PDT

Hey! I'm quite sure that in documentation for Android devs there was list of security changes and improvements that were introduced in each Android version. However I'm not able to find it anymore. Was it removed? Was it never there?

Anyone have idea where I can find this information now?

Not sure if this break rule 2 or not.

Experience on Ads vs Paid vs Pay for ad-free

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:00 AM PDT

I'm curious about your experience with monetizing apps. What's working better for you, and why?
I think the 3 main ways are either:

    -Free app + ads
    -Paid app
-Both (free app with ads and a paid ad-free version.

What are some other ways to monetize an app?

EditText menu appearing on long click - I have no idea how it works and how to style it

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 03:56 AM PDT

    Hey there!

I really don't want to bother you with a help me post, but I have been spending the last 4 days trying to figure out how the EditText menu works, which comes up on a long click with options like copy/paste (maybe it's called context menu).

I have been trying to style this menu, the text color in particular but I really have no idea at the moment how to go about it. I even created a question on StackOverflow but so far no answers there either.

Here is the SO link with more details about what I have also tried so far:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/68361088/change-edittext-long-click-menu-text-color

I'd be really grateful if someone could help me out in this topic.

Android emulator becoming unauthorized in adb and SystemUI not responding

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 05:37 AM PDT

We have a test machine setup that is running CI tests on a few emulators. We keep encountering this issue with the "Play store" emulators almost daily, they become "unauthorized" and an ADB prompt appears to allow or deny ADB authorization. If no one presses on "Allow" within a few seconds (note that this is an unattended machine), the prompt disappears and ADB becomes unauthorized, so our CI tests break because Appium can't connect. Sometimes, the problem is different, we start getting "SystemUI not responding" prompts, and ADB loses authorization as well.

For the ADB issue, a quick workaround is to kill the ADB server, and restart it... after that, the emulators work... for a while. For the SystemUI issue, only restarting the emulator seems to work.

I searched everywhere for a solution, but can't find anything useful that makes the issues not reappear. We tried different versions of Android (API 30, 29, 27), we tried upgrading the test machine to newer hardware, as well as all the suggestions in the StackOverflow threads, but the issue never goes away.

We need Play store functionality because we have some tests that rely on the latest Chrome version being installed on the emulators. I tried updating chrome on the non-Play store images, but no matter what we tried it never worked for us.

I would like to ask, has anyone has encountered this issue before, or has any ideas how to make this issue go away, what else to try?

    Thanks.

Please can anyone help me to understand why I am violating the privacy policy?

Please can anyone help me to understand why I am violating the privacy policy?

    Hello,

I have made a very simple snake game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbKwyaaBYY8

This is a completely free game build on my own engine. There is no data collection whatsoever, in fact there is even no internet connection. There is no advertisement, no microtransaction, and absolutely no monetization whatsoever. It's just a really simple and plain game (here is an apk download link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I1WZT_KD6JUW5y-WaqiPZ_A6tQ7h2uG7/view?usp=sharing).

As I was asked, I have also created a page with a privacy policy: https://www.tyracorn.com/free-app-privacy
I looked through the other published games that don't do data collection and created a similar policy. Thought this must work, because the other games are published.

Yet Google just gave me this response:

    https://preview.redd.it/ssx3ae3qk2b71.png?width=732&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c89866056938023092743306b0d6fec5f8f9fb3

I am just a simple guy who is having 3 kids, and none of them seems to be harmed in any way after playing snake. So it doesn't make sense to me.

Please can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
