Battery health has dropped rapidly from 100% to 96% just after two weeks. What should I do? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 08:11 AM PDT I'm using Manjaro KDE on Ideapad 5 15' I use my laptop for 8-10 hours and charge it 3-4 times as I've set the charge threshold at 60%. I just checked my battery health and now it's at 96%. I'm starting to get a bit worried. I'm using tlp, auto-cpufreq, and battmngr has set battery mode to 'battery saving' and battery conservation (it set charge threshold to 60%) on. What should I do I'm getting really worried about this. [link] [comments] |
Playing Minecraft makes my SSD go blackout Posted: 30 Jun 2021 05:53 AM PDT I'm a Debian (bullseye) user experiencing issuses with my SSD, Intel SSDPEKNW010T8. A few weeks ago I was happily flying in Minecraft to test the 32 chunks render distance, then regions started not to load and the game was weird, I tried to save and it just froze from saving screen down to CTRL+ALT+Fnn. reisub? not working, pressed the reset button on my keys and it booted up in my ubuntu installation, no way to launch Debian by ubuntu's GRUB, it was as physically not present. Got my SSD out, hot enough for scrambled egg, kept it cooling down and was working again, SMART was and is OK, no data loss, yet very rarely goes blackout and everytime I play Minecraft, and optionally make a save, goes blackout. uname -a is any ideas what this could be? should my drive be replaced? PS. The drive is plugged with a Sabrent adaptor through a PCIE 3 slot. [link] [comments] |

Complete n00b migrating to Linux Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:42 PM PDT I've used Windows for as long as I've been able to use a computer. However, I've had enough of Windows for a plethora of reasons and would like to migrate to Linux altogether. I haven't got particularly good computer skills. I'm able to do the basics, install, remove hard drive, back up stuff, install new operating system, but that is it. I intend to migrate to Zorin OS. I like that it has a Windows feel, not much if any coding or command prompts stuff is required, and it comes as a package with stuff like LibreOffice already installed. It would be gratefully appreciated if you lovely people could explain things to me like I'm five, what I need to do to ensure I can access my files when I delete Windows and go Full Zorin. Most importantly, I've saved my Firefox passwords and other passwords, so I won't lose my settings, bookmarks and so forth. What else do I need to do, be aware of, useful tips, useful stuff to download for Zorin? Any and all information will be gratefully appreciated. I'm also looking forward to getting a Raspberry Pi and getting Pihole! That will be a different thread altogether, at a later date. I've already created a backup of Windows and system image, just in case. I hope it's a case of waving goodbye to the old and hello to the new. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
What are the downsides of using an .AppImage? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:40 PM PDT Hi, running Majaro KDE and an application I wanted to run from the AUR had a really messed up GUI, So I downloaded a .AppImage from its Github (meant for ubuntu) and ran it with AppImageLauncher, added an icon, and slapped it in my favorites to get quick access to launch it. What is the downside of doing this, and was I just lucky it worked for this application? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:27 PM PDT Bit of a noob question. But I have an (unregistered) Red Hat 8.2 server. And want to install Syslog-NG on it. Am trying to install it from source, but am worried that certain dependencies (libwrapper) won't work properly. Was curious if anyone had success installing Syslog-NG on RHEL 8.2. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jun 2021 12:58 PM PDT I've got ncspot up and running and now i want to change some default configurations like bitrate, allow gapless playback. I tried adding it like this in the config.toml file in /home/usr/ncspot/
but i think the syntax is wrong because ncspot fails to run after saving this in the config file. Can someone give me the correct syntax or maybe share their config file ? I have searched on google but couldn't file any configuration files. I'm very noob with these things and its my first time changing config files in linux. Edit: I'm on Linux mint 20.1 cinnamon DE [link] [comments] |
Manjaro - How to install Runelite OSRS Client? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:55 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking to migrate over to Linux, more specifically Manjaro. The Runelite website has three options:
Which one of these downloads should I choose? I don't know what the difference between the two types of AppImage, or if it's better to just use .jar instead? [link] [comments] |
Installing Linux on Huawei Matebook D15 Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:53 AM PDT Hello, I'm thinking on switching to Linux, I'm using W10 currently on a Huawei Matebook D15. This laptop has an SSD and an HDD, in thinking on making a dual boot but idk if I will be able to use the HDD right away, and if the files I have there will be somewhat corrupted or something like that. Never used Linux outside of a VM so kind of scared tbh. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

[Please help] How do I install Linux on a PC with two drives? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:58 AM PDT My PC has a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I installed Windows on SSD and used HDD for storage and everything was fine. However, when I installed Pop OS, I found that Linux have a totally new file system which has one home directory. The other 1TB HDD has to be 'mounted' where I ran into complications. The HDD does not automatically mount at all. I tried to look at Disks utility and became more confused. I installed a game on HDD and played it but when I restarted my computer, Steam no longer recognized the game on HDD. Whenever I open Disks after starting my PC, the HDD is always unmounted and has a ZZZ written beside it. My friend, who knows a thing or two about Linux, suggested to make changes in the etc/fstab file but messed things up as now Pop OS isn't even updating since it etc/fstab has been changed. So I am planning to install Ubuntu (which has far more documentation than any other distro and is more beginner friendly for a noob like me). This time I want to install with my HDD working normally and I being able to access my games in it normally. I have searched YouTube and Google for solutions but almost no video or article mentions installing Linux on multiple drives (if you search installing Linux on two/multiple drives, Google assumes you are talking about dual booting). Those who do, often have terminologies that I simply don't understand. So please help. [link] [comments] |
How do I set this up (personal files backups) Posted: 30 Jun 2021 12:58 AM PDT Hey. So i've got this machine running Manjaro for a while. I've got Timeshift set up to backup my system, and I kinda think what I want could be done with this program, but im not sure how. Thing is, I have a folder with all my files, which I have backed up in a couple of drives. Every month or so I copy that folder again in the different drives, so that the backup is updated. My question is, is there anyway that I can automatically have the files added into the main folder copied into the other drives backups, so that I dont have to copy again the entire folder each time I update it? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:54 AM PDT Hi. I borrowed my laptop to a friend for her university (she is trusted so no security issue here) anyhow when I got my laptop back I noticed a folder name MATLAB in my home directory. When I asked her about it she said she needed Matlab for here university so she installed it. The thing is she said the she used crack and didn't buy a license (It's pretty common practice in my country). So I'm afraid that the crack is some sort of virus and it has infected my system. Here is what I know/done so far:
How can I be sure that my system is not infected? Do I need to reinstall Linux or can I continue using my current system? [link] [comments] |

Superpaper won't change the Wallpaper Posted: 30 Jun 2021 05:23 AM PDT Hello together, i am using Linux Mint Cinnamon in the latest Edition. I was looking for an option to span a Wallpaper over my 2 Monitors so i came to Superpaper which sounded perfect to me. After downloading the AppImage i made it executable. Then i followed the instructions by adding a new profile, select sources and so on. But everytime i click "apply" the Wallpaper on my Monitors doesn't change. Additionally the Wallpaper in the Preview Window on Superpaper jumps to the next one in the Source. Has someone a idea what could that be and how to make it work properly? Kind Regards [link] [comments] |
