Giving old laptop to family member - what to do beforehand? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 06:17 AM PDT hi everyone, as i'll be giving away my current laptop to a family member i was wondering if i needed to do anything in particular prior to actually giving it away? any programs that would make the handover process easier? or any kind of 'to do' list that i could try to follow? some things i've noted from articles online:
current laptop specs in case y'all need something to laugh about: Processor AMD E2-9000e RADEON R2, 4 COMPUTE CORES 2C+2G 1.50 GHz RAM 4.00 GB (3.88 GB usable) / ~500GB HDD memory iirc i'm getting an upgrade soon pls don't bully me thanks everyone :) [link] [comments]

NEVER Buy HP Laptops Especially The Pavilion or Envy x360 Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:38 AM PDT I bought an HP Pavilion x360 a while back and it was my favorite. It was super sleek and had a touchscreen and the hinges could be moved 360 degrees. After a few months of use, I was closing the lid and suddenly I heard a crack. I open it back up slowly and notice that the screen had popped off at the corner near the hinge. I went to Best Buy and they said they would give it to HP to fix it under warranty. No big deal. Later, I go back to pick it up and notice that the lid was mounted on crooked. I knew that the screen would eventually pop off again so I complained and Best Buy sent it back to HP. After HP "fixed" it again, I went to go pick it up and they had not done anything. The screen was still crooked. This time, Best Buy would not take it back to HP. I was worried because my 1 year warranty was about to end and told them but they said they said they wouldn't do anything about it. I took it home anyway and started to use it again. The screen popped off again after a few weeks like I knew it would. I went to Best Buy and complained. They said they couldn't do anything because it was out of warranty. Now I'm stuck with a Pavilion x360 that is duct taped together and the lid can't close. I went back to Best Buy and bought another HP laptop because I obviously haven't learned my lesson and after a few weeks that laptop experienced fan failure. This time I immediately returned it and bought an MSI which to date, has no problems whatsoever. Never buying HP again. [link] [comments]

CPU vs GPU while buying a laptop with external monitor use? Posted: 03 Jun 2021 09:33 PM PDT I'm an SEO and an Engineering student. Most of my time spends on the Chrome browser. Now planning to change my Laptop. The plan is to use one (most probably) or two external monitors with the laptop. Now the question is, what specs should I prioritize while choosing a laptop? Is it CPU or GPU? Like one has integrated Intel Irish Xe graphics and the other one has RTX 3060. What other things should I check while choosing the laptop? [link] [comments]
Is the Latitude 3120 a good upgrade over the 3189? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:35 PM PDT I'm looking for a new laptop for school use. I mainly use it for some Word documents, web browsing, watching video's and maybe twice a year edit a video. My parents only want to buy it through school so options are limited. I can't find any reviews about it. Is this an upgrade and is it any good? Current laptop: Pentium N4200 4gb DDR3 Intel HD Graphics 505 128gb Sandisk SSD 1366x768 IPS touch screen (has terrible backlight bleeding and black's) ~2-3 hours battery life New laptop: Pentium N6000 8gb LPDDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 128gb SSD 1366x768 IPS touch screen ? hours battery life €700 [link] [comments]

Best Small and Portable Gaming Laptop??? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:51 PM PDT I've been trying to find a small and portable gaming laptop that still will allow me to play AAA titles with ease. Would like the laptop to be able to fit on my lap pretty easily. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Help me choose! Helios 300 RTX 3060 i5 10300H vs TUF Dash F15 RTX 3060 i5 11300H Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:43 PM PDT I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop, and on budget I've narrowed it down to these two with the similar prices, with the similar following specs: Acer Predator Helios 300 Processor: Intel® Core™ i5 10300H Memory: 8 GBDDR4 Hard Drive: 256SSD + 1TB HDD Graphics Card: 6GB RTX3060 Display: 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz Asus TUF Dash F15 Processor: Intel® Core™ i5 11300H Memory: 8 GBDDR4 Hard Drive: 512SSD Graphics Card: 6GB RTX3060 Display: 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz They are both practically the same price (the TUF Dash F15 is slightly cheaper from where I am), and I'm aware that these are both 4-core i5 units, and I'm a sucker for the Dash F15's looks and form factor, however from what I've read online, the Dash F15 has a serious bottleneck issue that is caused by Optimus and possibly the single-channel memory (60fps at Apex Legends in low settings??). However, it appears the Helios has practically the same specis, so it technically should be experiencing the same issues, but I've seen nothing but praise for the Helios 300, and critics slamming on the TUF Dash F15. For the purpose of this, I'm limiting my choices to either of the two units. I'd appreciate any insight! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:03 PM PDT Looking to buy a laptop for university, but I have no idea what to get. Anyone have any recommendations? My budget is around £450. Ideally I would like: - i5 10th/11th gen, Ryzen 5 4500 or maybe an i3 11th gen/Ryzen 3 5000 series - Metal body - Decent screen - Decent battery life - 256gb+ SSD - 8gb+ RAM If possible, I'd like to avoid Dell & Lenovo (I've had bad experiences with both in the past). Suggestions from people who travel often Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:24 PM PDT I'm starting a new job soon and will be traveling the majority of the time. I want to pick up a personal laptop to do some picture editing, non competitive gaming, and possibly video editing. The majority of time this laptop is probably gonna be used for Netflix, picture editing, and video calls. For those things I'm not too concerned on specs maybe a nice display. I'm traveling with my Nintendo switch and will do most of my gaming on it but there are some upcoming PC titles I'm interested in and want a laptop that's gonna allow me to play these. I don't need to run any game maxed out at 100+ fps I play on a Switch so graphics and fps aren't everything to me. I've decided that a 14 inch laptop is the perfect mix of portability and usability. There aren't many laptops in this size. Zephyrus g14 is nice but no camera, triton 300 se doesn't look too bad, and the upcoming Acer swift X seems to fit my needs but I'll need to see some reviews. So I'm looking for some input from people who travel often. Should I go bigger to open up my options or is portability as important as I'm making it out to be? Should I just skip out on discrete graphics altogether? What other features/specs did you find were really important? [link] [comments]

Asus Zephyrus G15 - Simply the best portable laptop Posted: 04 Jun 2021 08:23 AM PDT So my review of the G15 is now live! Tldr; simply amazing device, incredible processing power, lightweight, understated design, great keyboard, large trackpad and awesome battery life. Not many negatives to shout about. Obviously pricey to purchase. Display isn't particularly colour accurate and damn you just wish it was 16:10. Check it out. Let me know if you think there's a better 'portable' gaming laptop out there. [link] [comments]
HP EliteBook 840 G6 - hinge failure Posted: 04 Jun 2021 04:29 AM PDT I have used these machines for a while and love the build quality and general look with the metal unibodies, glass touchpads and high performance displays. However, last week I closed the lid of this machine after work and heard a crack inside. In short, the left hinge has pulled the plastic mounts from the palmrest and come free. It's under warranty but HP are claiming this is user damage when it isn't, it's just poorly manufactured and has come apart. What should I be doing here? Do I just accept it? These aren't cheap machines. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:58 AM PDT I'm looking at a AERO 17 with a i7 10870H and a 3060. I was wondering how many monitors does that supports [link] [comments]
Weird coloured lines appear and disappear on my laptop screen and I don’t know how to fix it Posted: 04 Jun 2021 11:49 AM PDT Pretty much the title. Drivers all updated, still happens. I have a pretty recent Asus a15 FA506QR-HN036T 2021 and I haven't been rough with it so I don't think there's a problem with the screen itself. I just wanted to know if you guys could help me with that cuz I've been looking for way to fix it for a pretty long time [link] [comments]
New laptop suggestions - gaming/studying/music production Posted: 04 Jun 2021 11:49 AM PDT
€1200
Would prefer new
I'm a bit of a technological noob, hence why I came here for suggestions, so form factor and build quality are terms which completely go over my head. I'd like a gaming laptop, but entry-level-ish is fine, I don't need the highest performance, and comfortably running fl studio with a lot of plugins is a must. RE: battery life, my current laptop is incredibly old and has a max battery life now of about 1.5 hours, so considerable improvement on that would be nice, but it doesn't need to go for ages.
Semi-important. I'd like to be able to comfortably carry it in my backpack on a regular basis, but doesn't need to be the lightest in the world.
N/A
Gaming yes. Also music production, so fl studio with a lot of plugins, maybe ableton also.
Ideally I'd like to have the option to play recent AAA games like cyberpunk (not specifically cyberpunk, but perhaps similarly demanding games). I don't need to play on the highest settings.
Not really!
Sorry if i'm a little vague or unable to provide certain information, I'm not the most knowledgeable about this! If you need any more info please try to ask me in a noob-friendly way and I'll do my best to answer :) [link] [comments]
