Laptop for my dad for music production. Posted: 02 Jun 2021 02:01 AM PDT Hello, my dad uses his computer for writing books, and doing music production with Audacity. Is the lenovo ideapad 5 good for this? What laptop would you reccomend? He currently is using a Lenovo ideapad. Looking for something under 700-800£ . Thanks! [link] [comments] |
So my Razer Blade finally died... Posted: 01 Jun 2021 02:43 PM PDT I am looking for a replacement asap. I want a 17" gaming laptop with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 1 TB ssd, RTX 3070 (or equivilent), an i7 (or equivilent), and 32gb of ram If you can find a laptop with most of these attributes I would greatly appreciate it. Currently I'm looking at the GIGABYTE AORUS 17G XC, but that doesn't have the 16:10 aspect ratio that I want so so bad. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a normie friendly laptop - UK, <£2,000 Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:25 AM PDT Hi guys, looking to finally upgrade my laptop. Had the Dell xps 13 for about 5 years now and I gotta say it served me pretty damn well. Tempted to get a new version of this tbh or maybe the 15 but thought I'd see if there's anything else I should be looking at. Any advice appreciated! Realistically it's gonna be a Twitter/Youtube/Reddit machine. I never really game on my laptop (maybe a flash game at most lol). Never really been an Apple guy but I'm kinda tempted by a Macbook. The features that I liked most about the xps 13 was the super HD screen. It had really bad coil whine which pissed me off endlessly however. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop under 500€ for school Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:19 AM PDT Hi, I am looking for a laptop under 500€ for everyday use. I don't plan on gaming on it, I just need it for school, YouTube, very casual stuff. I don't know much about laptops, but I had once a very slow one that couldn't run 5 Chrome tabs and I hated it. I'd like it new. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
About to buy a Dell XPS 9310 - change my mind Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:31 AM PDT After looking around, I think the Dell XPS 9310 is what I need. What do you think? LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
I hesitated for long to go for a 2-in-1 laptop (would have been either the XPS 2-in-1 or HP Spectre x360 14) but I convinced myself that I won't use the touch feature a lot and if I want to start drawing on it, there are still noticable drawbacks VS a proper drawing tablet such as a Wacom. So better to have a device that does what I need and does it well. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a light laptop that could handle video editing and some gaming Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:53 AM PDT Pretty much title. I've been always using stationary computers while working with adobe premiere pro / after effects / photoshop software, but now I would also love to occasionally change my environment while working. I have no experience when it comes to laptops, but I would love something lighter as I would carry it around. More vertical space like 16:10 or something would also be nice, as it comes in handy when working with a large timeline in editing / designing software. Good colors / resolution is also big plus. I also prefer Windows, even though I did hear some good feedback about Apple's M1 chip, so maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea ever. Also, while it's not something important, it would be pretty nice if it could run some games as well. If it had 144hz it would be crazy good too but I am probably starting to ask for too much. As a budget, I have some money right now laying around so I can invest as much as needed for a great long term price/quality option. Thanks for suggestions. [link] [comments] |
Are gateway laptops ok for very light use? Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:22 AM PDT Giving it to family member overseas for light internet browsing and video calling and specs seem to be good, but I'm afraid quality control could be crap. Is there anyway to test it out (systems check type of deal kind of like test driving a car before purchase) before taking it overseas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:18 AM PDT Hello guys, I'm looking to buy a new laptop since my previous one (Matebook D Ryzen 5 2500U) met its end by a banana 🍌. I came across the 2020 model on Huawei's website for £800 with some extras included in the price. AMD Ryzen™ 5 4600H | 16GB DDR4 | 512GB SSD It comes bundled with: HUAWEI Display 23.8" HUAWEI Classic Backpack Do you think I could sell the monitor + backpack for around ~£200? How feasible would that be? I'll be using it mostly for CAD software, Ms office, internet usage, maybe some light gaming and learning some photoshop. I was really happy with my previous matebook, lightweight, battery lasted for 4-5h, it could charge through USB C which is a must for me now and nice build quality overall. What level of increasment in performance should I expect from my previous one? Comments and suggestions are more than welcome for any other solution. Also, I found the Lenovo Legion 5 with GeForce GTX 1660Ti Graphics, AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, 8GB Ram (upgradable) , 512GB SSD (+ slot) for £650. I guess that's a way better deal, even though it doesn't charge by USB C. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for game developing / programming + Steam Streaming + Playing small games Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:06 AM PDT My limit is 1500 EUR - Im living on the netherlands. What's the best durable laptop for light gaming / streaming Posted: 02 Jun 2021 02:18 AM PDT I just finished up school and my current laptop (Lenovo Flex15 IML) is on it's deathbed. I run and handle my laptops a lot harder than I should. I snapped off the bottom of both corners, the battery is crapping out and i'm 90% certain something in my hardware is corrupted. It also has a multitude of software problems I have gone to the moon and back trying to fix. I like the size (15") and I would like to know a good replacement that is a little more powerful and a little more durable. I play Trackmania, FNF, and NFS underground so I don't need cutting edge specs. If the battery can last more than 3 hours on full throttle i'm content. Build quality is the biggest thing for me. Any thing under or really close to $1000 is good. It doesn't need to be terribly portable either. I'd rather have a THICK LAD with good stats than an ultrabook with middling performance. Please don't hit me with a "Thinkpads are good" - Well, a model number would be better. Thanks. Current laptop Specs: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Lenovo/Flex15IML?M=81XH0001US [link] [comments] |
Studying / Light Gaming Laptop Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:40 AM PDT Hi guys, I'll be enrolling in university soon and am looking for a new durable laptop, for school work and some light gaming. I have a budget of $2k but would prefer to keep it around $1.5k if possible. For context, I've been using a Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch for over 7 years. Some guidelines: _______________________________________ Are you open to refurbs/used?
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Do you have a preferred screen size?
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming?
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
_______________________________________ I have also narrowed down to a few preliminary options so do let me know your comments, more specifically any pros/cons of each model vis-a-vis the others, or usage experience. In all these, I'm looking at 10th/11th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, and SSD Storage (preferably at least 512GB). Thank you! :)

Is there something that beats the Legion 760? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 08:56 PM PDT I live in Japan and am looking for a new laptop. My budget is around 200.000 yen. After doing some research Legion 760 seems to be the best fit but I want to make sure there are no better alternatives
Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H Processor ( 3.20GHz 4MB ) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6 Memory: 16.0GB DDR4-3200 DDR4 SODIMM 3200MHz (8GBx2) Storage: 1TB SSD, M.2 PCIe-NVMe Price: 210,951 yen https://www.lenovo.com/jp/ja/notebooks/legion-laptops/legion-7-series/Legion-7-16ACH6/p/88GMY701639
I will be using it for architectural/product rendering in blender/unreal engine, graphic & web design using the adobe suite, and some light gaming, mainly Path of exile.
As for requirements I really like having a full keyboard with a dedicated numberpad, I do a fair amount of video calls so a web cam is desirable.
The only real competitor I have found is the ROG Zephyrus G15
Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900HS GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 Memory: 16.0GB DDR4-3200 DDR4 SODIMM 3200MHz (8GBx2) Storage: 1TB SSD, M.2 PCIe-NVMe Price: 219,800 yen
It is a little bit more expensive, has no webcam/numberpad and comes with a 3060 instead of a 3070.
Are there any other laptops in the same price range that fits my requirements? [link] [comments] |
I need to finally put a 2009 Core 2 Duo to rest. Under 330 laptop needed. Posted: 01 Jun 2021 06:41 PM PDT HI! I'm looking for a budget upgrade from my current laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 (Q1 2009), with 2GB RAM. I would use it mainly for browsing and using word/excel while playing audios or videos. But it also would be great if I could run some 2015's version of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop without it freezing every 5 minutes. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: -USD 330- Are you open to refurbs/used? I am open to refurbs but would prefer not How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance is top, then it would be at least 3 hours battery life. Build quality is somewhat important would not want a kids' toy. Not interested in 2-in-1. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Preferable 1080p resolution. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I would like to use some 2015 version of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop at least. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I don't think I would use it for gaming. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive,or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would need HDMI output and a 3.5mm audio jack, and ethernet connection. Would like a multiple stroke touchpad that recognizes gestures. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm buying the laptop in the US but will send it to my country in Latin America, I can't perform any return. I need to be sure the device will get in good condition to destiny. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2021 08:43 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
This laptop would be solely for music production, and so I don't care about graphics cards, screen size, screen resolution, etc. A good build quality that doesn't feel like cheap plastic would be good. As well as different types of ports. The possibility of upgrading ram later would be a bonus. All in all, I'm not doing anything like crazy like movie scores just looking for a laptop that can handle what one musician might throw at it in a DAW like Protocols or Ableton. Thanks in advance! Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:58 PM PDT Hi all, I'm looking for a new laptop to get me through uni because I've currently got a Dell Inspiron 15" that is much too heavy and also starting to fail me. I've only had it for a year sadly, so not too keen on Dell anymore. I'm really looking for a 2 in 1 because it'll be convenient with uni and I want to stress that I DO NOT need fancy gaming specs, this is just for uni - so here are few options I'm interested in! Please let me know what you think of them and the brands in particular. Build is important to me too! I really hate the plastic finish of my dell, makes me feel like I should've paid less than I did lol. Lenovo Yoga S7 Carbon Evo-1300G 2 in 1 256GB SSD, Intel Core i5 quad core processor, 8GB RAM, QHD IPS display (2560x1600) (A bit over my budget) Asus VivoBook Flip 14" 2 in 1 256GB SSD, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U (2.1-4.0 GHz), 8GB RAM, Full HD display (1920x1080) HP Pavillion X360 2 in 1 256GB SSD, Intel Core i5 (2.4-4.2GHz), 8GB RAM, Full HD display (1920x1080) What can you tell me about these brands and these models? Are these laptops going to be reliable or do I need to spend a bit more to get a reliable computer. My budget is about $1300 (I've got a friend able to get discounts on the ones listed here!) I'm also considering the Surface Pro series, but they are super expensive so I'm not too eager to snap one of those up! [link] [comments] |

I am not really sure which i should buy. Models: Macbook Air M1 13" 2020 256GB SSD 8GB RAM Lenovo Thinkpad T14 14" Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U 256GB SSD 16GB RAM I don't own any other apple products, and i don't really plan to join the apple ecosystem. Got a Microsoft Surface Go Laptop for half the price, sell or keep? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:20 PM PDT I got a Microsoft Surface Go for about $330 even though it retails at ~$660. I already have 2 PCS: The problem with my current laptop is that it's more of a mobile workstation than a laptop. It's very heavy and bulky. I don't feel comfortable lugging it around daily. For the next few months until I move or get an office space, I want something light and mobile to do productivity tasks with. However, I HATE working on a laptop for more than an hour otherwise my neck starts hurting from looking down so long, so its not something I plan to do more than a couple hours of work on at a time. Would it still be worth it? Alternatively, I also have an 8th Gen iPad that can probably do the job, but I'm not too crazy about running into limitations, nor the tiny screen. Should I keep? Sell? Try the ipad + keyboard setup first? [link] [comments] |

2-in-1 for light gaming that can be charged with USB-C/Thunderbolt Posted: 01 Jun 2021 03:22 PM PDT Backstory/current systems: I currently have a custom built desktop PC that I have gamed on for years, but these last few years I have barely touched it (I did upgrade some parts) or used it to game anymore. When I have gamed these last few years it has mostly been lighter games such as Civ, Stardew Valley, Overcooked, Sims, Jackbox, etc. The heaviest games I have run being Assassins Creed, The Witcher, Call of Duty, but MOSTLY Overwatch. In fact I even I got a Nintendo Switch Lite just for Overwatch on the go/on the couch since I have not been using the desktop to game as much anymore. I also bought a higher grade 13" Surface Pro 6 a couple years ago, 16gb ram, i7 processer, 512gb ssd. I love the portability, thinness, weight, and features of the surface. It can handle all the light games, but of course it cannot handle Overwatch or anything heavier. Essentially I am looking at the possibility of getting rid of the desktop build, and getting a system that possibly combines the above. (TLDR) Ideally something like my Surface, that can handle a little bit more gaming, and can be charged by USB-C/Thunderbolt!
