You will be left with a W11 Pro iso, straight from Microsoft. Mount and install, or create a bootable USB drive, I would recommend using Rufus in this case. For those unaware, uupdump is reputable and the source code can be found here. Edit: enabling 'run cleanup' during step 5 has caused issues for some. Edit 2: For those having issues, check this. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 05:21 PM PDT My good old MacBook Pro from 2012 is capable of running Windows 11 in VMware Fusion but isn't able to do so natively? C'mon this is just ridiculous. I really love where you are going with Windows 11 and I agree that security is important, especially when everything we do nowadays is somehow connected to something tech-related, but I always felt, that Windows 10 was very secure. I never caught a virus on Windows 10, but did so on both XP and 7. You are doing great with securing Windows nowadays. But you wanted to offer Windows as a service. It is however not great service, when I need to probably replace my MacBook Pro soon, because I really want to switch back to Windows. Currently, it all works through Bootcamp with Windows 10, but with you not giving me the option to upgrade to your latest operating system, I may need to replace it soon, because I really want that Windows 11 experience. And I already tested the leaked ISO on my MacBook natively, because I did some patching with the installer. And it worked great. It ran smoothly on an external SSD. I don't even think, that the Intel HD 4000 supports DX12 (may be wrong there though) but it was still a great experience. Too bad that when I wanted to update to the official Insider Preview, you didn't let me, because my MacBook Pro doesn't support Secure Boot and TPM 2.0. You are taking away a great product from tons of people with that move. And at least for me, I can currently not afford a new laptop, so I have to stick with Windows 10. And so will lot of people for the next couple of years maybe and even though I praised Windows 10's security before, it is far away from perfect. You could have finally defeated the "good-bad" pattern, that you infamously always do (yes, I still consider Windows 10 good, even though, there are still a lot of flaws for me at least.), but if you do not take out these two requirements, many people will not use Windows 11 because they simply can't run it and even if people, who can run it, will love it, it'll still be a flop. All of this is of course just my opinion. Let me know, what you guys think. [link] [comments]
My theory as to why MS made Windows 11. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:00 PM PDT I think it was greatly due to the issue of requiring TPM 2.0 chips to be installed on the user's system. They wouldn't be able to require TPM in an update for Windows 10 because it would mean changing the W10 system requirements. New OS, new requirements. Most of the other changes from what I see could have been implemented in updates to W10. Making TPM 2.0 standard is an attempted by MS to reduce the threat ransomware and firmware attacks. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:06 AM PDT So Windows 11 is definitely prettier and the settings panel is much more streamlined. But in terms of productivity it's a downgrade. More specifically because of the taskbar. You can't enable titles or ungrouping. So let's say you have multiple folders open, if you want to switch to a specific folder you have to hover on the folder icon in the taskbar, then wait... a popup appears, then you have to select the folder you want. This applies to any number of apps that can run multiple instances. e.g. VLC player, Notepad++, MS Word, Excel, Chrome, Brave, Steam Chats, etc. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:39 PM PDT Hey ya'll . Not sure if this is best spot to post.. I tried joining WindowsServer sub but it's still pending and I need to get some quick feedback asap. im sure most of people experienced enough to properly provide an educated opinion are on both subs here anyways.. Plus, Windows at it's core is Windows.. right?? lol. IM sure this will generate alot of discussion... with that comment alone im certain! So I am an ol timer MCSE 2003 from back in the day. Thought I had hung up my Windows Server coat a long time ago, but recent unexpected life events have brought back the need to go full IT Admin mode. Im well into the process of starting up a Cloud centric IT Solutions company . To my intrigue and delight I discovered that at this juncture in time when im trying to build a new Windows Server Active Directory domain from scratch, that Microsoft has a new Server OS just about ready to go RTM! Nice! Toit.. I think!??! I've briefly fiddled with Windows 2022 Datacenter Desktop mode (and core for a split second too.. cant get over Windows without a GUI. immediately start to hack it and install Double Commander , all sorts of hacks to get around missing explorer.exe .. Decided this makes no sense.. going back to server desktop . I can afford the little extra ram/cpu usage for a nice shell) - I honestly really like it! It takes alot of courage to admit this but I really like how Windows in general , but especially Server has cleaned up since I last jumped ship around Windows 2008 R2 era.. I think Windows 2012 had actually just been released when I jumped but never actually installed it for anything other then having a Win2012 Server template in our VMware lab environment for the devs to muck around with. I know that I cant avoid Windows Server 2019 cuz many biz's aren't even on 2016 let lone 2019, but ive always liked my Microsoft Server products like I like my steak.. almost raw, n. bloody rare. lol. j/k. I like bleeding edge and can handle the quirks that come along with it for the most part. So what do you all think ? If you were me, would you go 2019 or 2022 on my new biz's first AD server? I dont see any reason why I shouldn't.. do you? I gotta look into this more, but if past methods hold true still, I dont think 2022 server will try to deploy the domain in Server 2022 mode by default anyways..id guess the Forrest and domain mode would be 2016 or 2019.. maybe im wrong. Anyways.. . Thoughts ? Suggestions? Thanks in advance ya'll! PS. Cant believe this MCSE turned full on Mac convert is finally excited about Windows server again!! I say this now, not having yet encountered a virus. ugh. Give me a week or few and see if I feel the same level excitement!! Does Windows still SUCK with security and can catch COVID19 out the Womb? lol. I kid.. I Kid. :P Cheers! [link] [comments]

Is Cortana always listening even if you don't use it? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:49 PM PDT There was a band playing the Pirates of the Caribbean score outside. Then I saw Captain Jack Sparrow in my start menu. EDIT: For grammar [link] [comments]
"Computer can't run Windows 11" Challenge accepted. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:54 PM PDT Like legit my XPS from 2017 is like TPM 1.2 (unofficially updated it to 2.0) legacy boot issue. Swapped it to GPT. Secure boot not enabled. Didn't bother since it was giving me issues anyways. Processor not compatible with Windows 11. As well didn't bother and went ahead with the insider preview that got sent to my updates in the settings. Flawless! [link] [comments]
Can we share all our feedback hub bug reports and feature requests here? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:36 AM PDT Windows 11 is in the Dev build. We insiders are testing it right now and are all finding bugs here and there which we report on feedback hub. We all have our feature requests too which we want to be implemented by the developers. What we can do is whenever we report a bug or post a feature request in Feedback Hub, we should also share it in this subreddit so that so that more Insiders become aware of it. It can get the support of fellow Insiders, which would help the feedback to get noticed. Please share your ideas here too. The point is, other insiders can support the request on feedback hub! Let's say, I post something on Feedback Hub and then share the link to my feedback here. If otherinsiders agree to it, they might as well support it. That way requested feature may gather more and more support. [link] [comments] |
