Windows 7 with only 212 MB of RAM? Posted: 31 May 2021 01:59 PM PDT I really enjoy messing with Windows virtual machines - and this time, I wanted to see what is the least amount of RAM that I could get Windows 7 to boot on. I started with 1GB. Obviously, it booted fine with aero. I immediately cut it down to 512 MB, where the system still booted and aero worked fine. However, around 300 MB, the system blue screened if I tried booting it with aero enabled. So, I had to disable aero, and then try again. Windows booted with 212 MB of RAM. However, on 208 MB (since VMWare only allows you to use increments of 4MB), the system blue screened. I tried everything I could, but the limit was 212 MB The full video (and how I came to this conclusion) is here [link] [comments]

I think this is a windows problem Posted: 31 May 2021 03:31 PM PDT So system idle process is always high and makes my cpu usage high when I'm playing games and I have heard that it doesn't do anything but my cpu usage goes to around 80-100 and gives my pc problems. Any way to turn it off or something? [link] [comments]
I'm looking for a desktop program that can monitor each program's use time. Posted: 31 May 2021 02:53 PM PDT I saw a similar thrad to this one, from 3 years ago, and none of the responses fit my needs. I need this to track time spend in each game since I'm used to steam doing it for me, and now I want to know the hours I have spent in each game. I actually need a much simpler programs then the productivity-oriented ones. If you know of one, great, if you know of a productivity-oriented program that can do what im looking for in a relatively stramlined way, thats great aswell. Edit: I know windows does this, at least loosely, since it sends me the recap of what ive used and how much every week. If theres a way to view this information in a clear way that would help aswell. Where are Thunderbolt and power events logged in Windows 10 Home? Posted: 31 May 2021 01:57 PM PDT I'm trying to troubleshoot a few Thunderbolt and Power status change issues on my computer. Where are the relevant events logged in Windows 10? Are special considerations needed for Windows 10 Home vs Professional? [link] [comments]
How to disable the Change Volume beep (It is NOT Default Beep) Posted: 31 May 2021 09:47 AM PDT Hi, When I change volume I get a super annoying beep-sound for every tick. It makes listening to music a pain. I tried googling it, but all solutions say I need to disable the Default Beep and that is not it. I guess that used to be the soution, but isn't anymore. I connect to my speaker via bluetooth; just in case it's important. Any ideas? I wen through the system sounds and am completely out of ideas. [link] [comments]

cmd like window popping up often Posted: 31 May 2021 12:44 PM PDT I've had this issue with an "executable" called "vrcewis" popping up sometimes, it doesn't do anything as far as I'm aware, but it's annoying. It started happening after Windows' latest update. [link] [comments]

Is there any way to prevent smart card and smart card enumeration services from stopping? Posted: 31 May 2021 06:35 AM PDT Since I don't have a smart card device physically connected to the server the services keeps stopping automatically after just a few seconds. I need the services to remain started because I use smart card when I log in with RDP on the server. The server is a virtual machine and smart card does work temporarily when the service is on. I have seen that you can set the CanStop property to false for services but I don't know how to do this for the 2 smart card services [link] [comments]
Why does explorer need to “Discover” files before deleting them? Posted: 30 May 2021 10:26 PM PDT Usually when I try to delete files, explorer needs to "Discover" them before deleting the files. However, CMD doesn't discover files before deleting them (I think), which makes CMD much faster than explorer. [link] [comments]
Windows 10 home and Disk number allocations Posted: 30 May 2021 11:32 PM PDT I have a question that might be a Windows thing, or possibly a hardware thing. I'm looking for some wisdom... I'm using an Asus X570 motherboard with three SATA SSDs and one NVMe SSD. That NVMe has just been installed fairly recently, and I transferred my Windows installation to it from one of the SSDs, then set my BIOS to boot from the NVMe. In Disk Management, Windows reports the old SSD as Disk 0 - the NVMe is disk 3. I can't see any way of changing that in BIOS, nor in Windows. Can anyone please help me understand where this is set? Ngā mihi. [link] [comments]

Windows MBR position after clean install Posted: 30 May 2021 11:37 PM PDT Hi everyone, yesterday I did a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop: I have an ssd and an hdd. During the installation I deleted partitions from the ssd and installed the operating system on it without disconnecting the other disk. Today a friend told me that by doing this the MBR was distributed on both drives and if I were to remove one in the future, Windows would not boot anymore. It's true? Is there a way to check if this has happened? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
