    OnePlus My new 8t

    OnePlus My new 8t

    My new 8t

    Posted:

    Hello everyone

I made myself a promise when I got my LG G6 around 3 and a half year ago: This will be my last provider-chained phone. I wanted more. More freedom. More choice. More possibilities. Here I am today speaking to you from my brand new OnePlus 8t. And I am very proud of myself for getting there.

I spent a couple of months browsing the internet. Looking at reviews. Looking at prices. Looking at choices. The lack of IP68 got me going away, but the water tests I saw got me coming back. The lack of micro SD support also got me running but the 256gb of storage + 12gb of ram got me running at it. What made me finally buy it ? The fact it was only 800$ CA because of a big discount. That's 50$ less than the 8 and 40$ only more than the Samsung 20FE. And let's not talk about the Pixel.

I bought the cyan version. It's so pretty. With the protection package because I'm a clumsy person and I've read good stuff about the kevlar case. I ordered it late on a Friday night and I picked it up after work on Monday. The shipping was so fast; I'm still surprised by it.

Had some trouble sticking the glass screen (a big air bubble) but I'm waiting on an email back from support. No worries there, I heard through the grapevine that the staff have a lot of love for the users.

After 3 days I can say: What a phone. What. A. Phone !!! It is blazing fast, highly responsive and oxygenOS feels like a breath of fresh air. On my G6 I had to charge 4 to 6 times per day, I was always scared of running out. On the OnePlus, I charge it 30 minutes in the evening while taking a shower, no overnight charge and I still end the day at 20-25%. Simply incredible. Wrap 65w is game changer.

And performance? The G6 had constant lags / crash on Android auto. The 8t is fluid, fast and smooth. The G6 crashed on Genshin Impact. The 8T loads it faster than my PS4 and it runs with no stutter no lag. The G6 had Bluetooth dropout, the OnePlus has Bluetooth anchor. I could go on and on; but if I compare it to my old phone it's night and day.

Despite some lacking options like fonts, carrousel home screen, grouping the tray by folders and other odds and ends; it's still a solid phone. There are a whole bunch of other new personalization options for me to tango with.

I haven't tested the camera yet. Thanks to Covid we haven't gone out much. But I'm someone outdoorsy who makes a lot of road trip normally so I can't wait to exploit that bad boy.

I'm sorry for the long post. I'm very proud about it and I wanted to speak to a community that knew how I felt. I'm also sorry for the spelling; I'm french.

    Have a nice weekend everyone.

Just Upgraded from Pixel 4 XL to OP9 Pro

    Posted:

Just went ahead and upgraded my 4XL to the OP9 pro and I couldn't be happier. Just figured I'd come and share my thoughts on the switch since I've seen a lot of talk about all the hype leading up to release (some of which was definitely unfounded). I'm an an American user on T-Mobile in the northeast USA if that counts for anything.

    Screen

    • Pretty much nothing but positives here. I think the screen is one of the best features of the phone.
    • Bigger
    • Brighter
    • Faster
      • The faster touch sampling rate is incredible, this is by far the most responsive phone I've ever used
      • I haven't seen any of the hitching or stuttering that MKBHD mentioned in his review
    • My big downside is definitely the curved edges, I've been getting some accidental touches, but I've gotten better at adjusting the way I hold the phone to prevent it.
    • The ultra motion smoothing that is on by default gives videos a weird uncanny valley look that I hate so I turned it off

    Battery

    • The 4XL isn't even in the same category. Battery life has been incredible running 1080/120 pretty much on max brightness all day. I use my phone for pretty much everything (work emails and applications, music, podcasts, navigation) and I usually don't have to charge until right before bed or on my way home from work on heavier days. We'll see how it holds up over time.
    • The charging is incredible, as well. Even on my 18 watt stock pixel charger it charges incredibly fast.

    Performance

    • Again, the 4XL is significantly worse. The 9 Pro is super snappy, apps load and install significantly faster.
    • I don't get any of the background app closure issues that I have on the 4XL.
    • The phone also stays significantly cooler under heavy use than the 4XL.

    Camera

    • This is where I expected to be disappointed and I was more impressed than I expected
    • The camera app does have that weird 1/4 second delay that a lot of reviewers have mentioned and it's probably my biggest complaint about the phone. This is definitely a software issue (it doesn't happen when using GCAM)
    • The image quality is comparable to the 4XL in most situations. Color is good but some images come out over saturated by default. The "matte" filter option can be toggled on by default in the app to compensate for this and give much more realistic colors.
    • Video is head and shoulders above the 4XL. More options, better OIS, 4k/120 looks amazing (although it kills your storage space).
    • GCAM is still in its infancy with the OP9 series, but still provides an excellent alternative to the stock app. It makes images better, but the pixel video processing is significantly worse (and occasionally crashes when swapping lenses). I've been using the stock app for video and GCAM for photos.

    Software

    • Oxygen OS is great. Customizable, fast, lightweight. Has the feel of stock android with more customization options.
    • I'm not a fan of some of the OnePlus baked in apps. Just stick with stock google version (the OnePlus gallery is terrible).

    Miscellaneous Thoughts

    • The volume button placement is terrible. The volume down button is EXACTLY even with the power button on the opposite side. I've lost count of the number of accidental screenshots I've taken with the phone.
    • The phone is dense, it feels like a quality product in your hand.
    • The fingerprint sensor is a god send over the janky 4XL face unlocked, especially is the age of covid.

Overall, I'd say that I am extremely satisfied with the upgrade. The camera doesn't live up to the hype, but it is way more competent that people are giving it credit for. The performance, screen and software are all amazing.

    OnePlus Auto-Brightness is still Bad

    Posted:

It wouldn't be such a huge problem, but the OnePlus Nord doesn't get as bright as other models.

Auto brightness on a Nord simply results in you not being able to see anything until you manually adjust.

I guess I will resort to a 3rd part app.

My OnePlus 6 is calling the wrong emergency number, and I have lost all trust in OnePlus

    Posted:

Apparently, OnePlus and emergency numbers are not friends. See also this post from 3 years ago: I had to dial 911 on my OP5 yesterday (saw a building on fire a few blocks away) and both times I tried my phone rebooted on me.

I live in Israel, where we have 3 main emergency numbers:

    • 100 = police
    • 101 = medical emergency (i.e. ask for an ambulance)
    • 102 = fire department

No matter which one of these I call, I always get the police. Found this out the hard way, when actually having a medical emergency and reaching the wrong number, causing both me and the operator to be confused. After calling 101 again and reaching 100 again, I had to ask them to transfer me.

How is calling an emergency number so broken? 3 years ago it would literally crash the phone, and presumably ever since then it would just ignore the actual number you called and call one at random? (It's very unlikely that this is a new bug)

Anyway... I don't know who to contact to get this fixed. I'm baffled that it's broken in the first place. Lost a lot of trust in OnePlus that day. I also recently discovered a major bug in the messaging app - https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/sms-messages-with-2-urls-only-enter-the-second-one.1385916/ - which they've assured me via PM will be fixed but it's been over a month and there has been an update since then, it has not been fixed.

How can I trust OnePlus if they get all the basics wrong?

    Oxygen OS 11 - OnePlus 7 Pro - Can't Customize Lock screen

    Posted:

After the last Oxygen OS update, it added those icons at the bottom which I had disabled before and there is no longer an option to disable them. That by itself I don't like because someone can pick up your phone and take a bunch of photos without even having to unlock it.

Now, with Oxygen OS 11, not only did that problem remain, but they messed up the clocks too. As you can see in the screenshot below, first of all I'm not using the 24 hour format, yet the lockscreen has that one. Second of all, the way the first number is red is also really stupid. It happened to me two days in a row now where I check the time and think it's 6 PM for instance (It's showing 16:00). Yesterday I took a nap at noon, woke up, checked my phone and it was showing 15:00 (which is 3PM) but because Im not used to it (and as I said the rest of my phone uses the 12 hour format), combined with that fact that the first digit is red (almost unnoticeable with most backgrounds), it makes it really challenging.

    Here is the screenshot:

    https://ibb.co/z7y9CcH

So, why exactly am I unable to customize the lock-screen?

Slower response speed after updating to latest firmware

    Posted:

    Good Day All,

    Oneplus 7pro user here.

Only this week that i had updated my device to its latest firmware.

Current Firmware: Android OS 11, Oxygen OS 11GM21AA

    Model number GM1910, 8GM ram 256GB ROM.

    Problems faced:

    1. delayed camera launch (from less than 1sec, to 1-3sec)
    2. laggy response speed (even app not responding prompts) for whatsapp
    3. reduced brightness level overall (the brightest isn't as bright as before)
    4. seemingly higher battery consumption rate after update (or was it slower charging speed)

am i a one-of case or is it a common case after this update?

Very interesting read for those who are excited as me about the upcoming OnePlus Watch.

Im pretty happy with my Oneplus 9 pro

    Posted:

I know the Oneplus 9 pro is controversial with the hasselblad hype and the price hike. But i just got mine for 780 euro and not only that but its pretty cool considering the other brands don't even put a charger in the box anymore that i get this 65 watt beast. I also got a nice case with it in the box and their 50w wireless charger for free because of their pre order promo.

So with the reviews being mixed and the community response as well. I just thought, you know, this actually was amazing value. And I just felt like sharing that

Random drop in refresh rate on OOS 11 7Pro

"Upgraded" to an S21 Ultra. Now I'm truly upgrading back to the 7T Pro

    Posted:

After the last two gens of Oneplus phones being subpar at best, I decided I wanted to upgrade to a phone that has it's OEM's support. I'm big on getting the best of the best so I went with the S21 Ultra on release. Two months later, I'm having serious Oneplus withdrawals. The S21 Ultra camera is nowhere near as good as the Pixel 4A even being the low end model, the battery life is abysmal when held up against my previous 7 Pro, the user interface is barely one cut above whatever garbage LG is still pedaling and with every update, they seem to make the camera and the battery worse. I regret so much getting rid of my Oneplus 7 Pro for this piece of junk and am picking up a 7t Pro McLaren as quick as possible. My last Samsung prior to this was a short lived S7 and I can say with certainty that unless they start allowing their phones to be flashed with pure Android, the S21 Ultra will be my last ever.

Oneplus 9 Pro - March Security Update

    Posted:

Here's a question. The phone was released in March. I have it. It's in my hands. Yet for some reason, there's no March security update. Is there something I'm missing. I know they're not always great about updates, but to ship a phone on an old security patch seems odd.

I'm enjoying the phone otherwise, but I think I saw somewhere that the 8/8 pro got the march patch, but the newest phone hasn't? I'm not trying to seem incredulous, but it just strikes me as odd. Hoping someone has some insight.

    New update, no ui changes

    Posted:

Just got the new update for my 8 pro today and none of the blatant ui issues have been fixed. When will they be fixed? It feels like never. Not to mention the other grammar and spelling mistakes too. Oneplus is making all these commercials when the system that holds all their products together still has lots of problems.

Hi everyone, if this post is not allowed then please feel free to delete.

If anyone in the EU has received the Pine Green One Plus 9 Pro and is not going to be using the case, would it be possible for you to send it to me? I live in the States and the case does not come included with our package and I would love to have one. Will pay the shipping and handling!

    Thanks in advance.

Dim & lock screen during gaming?

    Posted:

I've just switched from Samsung to OnePlus and I'm really missing the ability to soft-lock my screen while playing Pokémon (like this). Is there a similar feature on my 9 Pro anywhere or any apps that anyone can recommend?

Audiophile opinion: OnePlus Buds Z are superior to Airpods Pro in every way.

    Posted:

So I took the plunge and bought a pair of Airpods Pro about 6 months ago, and honestly I was neither impressed nor disappointed. Battery life was lackluster, bass is meh, but being wirelessly connected is definitely a novelty that is alluring enough to overlook the flaws.

Well when I picked up the Buds Z for $50 I was expecting Bluetooth earpodsthat were going to perform about the same as the Apple ones, but man was I blown away. The bass is fantastic. Battery technology in general is still not perfect, but I definitely get longer listen times with the Buds than the AirPods.

So I just wanted to give OnePlus mad props

T Mobile OnePlus 9 Google Account Sync Issue

    Posted:

To follow up on my earlier post. I think I narrowed down my gmail issue to a google account sync issue. In the accounts setting, when I select sync now, most of the major apps don't seem to be trying to sync. They just show a frozen sync symbol screenshot..

I'm thinking this can't be isolated to just me since my wife is experiencing the exact same issue and our older oneplus 8t and oneplus 7 pro seems to be able to sync fine.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Is there an agreed upon list of bloatware that can be safely removed by adb from Oneplus devices (1+8t)?

    Posted:

I want to debloat my OnePlus 8t and am looking for a confirmed, "safe to remove", list of apps.

If you've debloated via adb, please let me know what you've removed safely without causing system instability. This is my first 1+ device and I don't want to remove something that the system may be dependent on.

    Software updates

I just got myself an OP 9 Pro and was wondering how many big software updates I'm getting? Also, how is OnePlus with the monthly updates? I was getting an update once every month on my Pixel and now I'm wondering if it's the same case with OP. I could only find people complaining about the update policy so far
