| Intermittent battery charging issue and we have already replaced the clients battery. Posted: 30 Mar 2021 10:21 AM PDT Client has an HP laptop that was not charging. Battery is internal and we did the standard battery pull after opening it up, and the installed it again and battery charged up. This occurred twice across the span of a few months, and then the client asked us to replace the battery. While not an official HP, we generally purchase through laptopbatteryexpress because they have decent quality stuff. We don't buy "knockoff" amazon/ebay style batteries unless the client options for it to save money. It was working fine but now a few months later they are have the same problem and want the battery replaced again. While it is still under a warranty, I just don't think it is the battery at fault here. It isn't the charger either as it reports correct voltage with a meter and powers the laptop fine when the battery is disconnected (and we also test with our own chargers). Also we can always get the thing to start charging again with a battery pull. So I have to assume this is some sort of charging circuit problem on the board, but without knowing enough about the design of these circuits, I don't know why (other than I guess breaking the circuit) it does continue to work for some period of time after doing a pull. Anyone dealt with anything similar in the past? It was nice when laptop makers used to have those battery reset paperclip buttons on the bottom when they started making batteries internal because this customer would probably find that an acceptable solution, but those don't seem so common anymore and we can't keep opening this thing up every 3-4 months for them.
