Made an app to let you set any app as your home screen

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 09:45 AM PST

Hey! I just released this tiny open source project called AnyHome. The audience is very niche, it's mainly for repurposing old Android devices. All it does is let you set ANY app to be your home screen.

For example, I want a device dedicated to listening to my music. Since I've got a few old phones lying around, I just use AnyHome to set VLC as my home screen. You can do this for stuff like netflix to repurpose an old tablet for media. There's plenty of ideas.

To reset the app selection, clear the app data from settings.

    Here's the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.draco.anyhome

It's also open source if anyone wants to compile it themselves with Android Studio Canary for free: https://github.com/tytydraco/AnyHome

I'm also available by email if you need a refund for any reason, or need help. Hit me at tylernij@gmail.com.

Here's 20 promo codes for you beautiful people!

    Note-taking App with 0 Permissions - Inkblot

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:49 AM PST

    Hi all,

I started getting involved in Android development because I just couldn't find applications on Android that fit my or my family's needs. I made Inkblot - a minimalist note-taking app - because I noticed, after developing my first app, that many note-taking apps are too complicated and require way too many permissions. Inkblot is far more intuitive for fast notes because you can easily share and delete them without a ridiculous amount of clicks and effort. It just works efficiently. It also fits with my philosophy: apps only need the permissions actually necessary to accomplish their goals. We should be finding innovative ways to use less permissions while giving the same or similar features. I'm fairly confident my app is one of only a few apps on the Google Play Store with 0 (and I mean 0) permissions.

Here is the Google Play Store Link:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.matthewbenchimol.inkblot

Your feedback would be much appreciated!

Looking for an app that'll lock other apps for a certain amount of time

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 02:01 AM PST

Hey everyone! Im wondering if anyone knows of an app that'll lock other apps for certain amounts of time. So, say I wanted to lock myself out of a food delivery app for a week. I'm hoping there's an app that'll do that, but, I've had a hell of a time finding one! 😅

[DEV] Custom Volume Panels - Replace your phone's stock volume panel and sliders with our custom designed ones

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 08:21 AM PST

    Check it out here.

Custom Volume Panels allows you to change your phone's default volume controller with custom ones available in our app.

How does it work? With the use of an Accessibility Service, it observes when you press on one of the volume buttons.

Setup is pretty quick, without many time consuming settings. Just turn on the service and select your favorite skin. If you're not sure how to turn on the accessibility service just watch the video in the play store description.

The app has a simple yet beautiful design that features 20 skins (so far) and most of them are free (70%).

No ads are displayed so feel free to try it out if you're feeling like changing your default volume panel.

Also, for the paid skin packs, here are some promo codes to try them out for free:

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/12L-GubE_yJXtROH61SwAjECPF9bqHgz0FO8p47GgY30/edit

If you guys like the app, please leave a quick review if you have some time.

Thanks and hope you enjoy it!

    Explore topics on Wikipedia.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:14 AM PST

This is fun app I made to learn more about topics you already know or just learn something new in general.

The app is called Random Wikipedia (Only on Android, but if demand is high, I will create an iOS version later).

Don't let the name fool you. It is not purely random. It uses anything you enter and comes up with a related article.

I had great fun making this and even more fun using it. I hope you guys can get some fun out of too while also learning a thing or two.

    Minimalist Epub&PDF reader

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 05:13 PM PST

Hi! As so many people I've taken it upon myself to read some more in 2021. I started using Lithium, which I like very much, especially the dark mode and the straight forward interface. But, as I probably should've guessed by it being called "Lithium EPUB Reader", it only accepts Epub files. Now, I happen to have quite a few PDF files of books that I'd also like to read, but all the apps that I've tried thusfar are either WAY too overcomplicated, or don't have a proper dark mode. (White text on a black background.)

So, I was wondering, do you know any (preferably free) apps that have these features? I don't need any fancy bells and whistles apart from the dark mode, I only ask that it keeps track of where I've left off. :)

    Thanks in advance!

[Request] An App like 'Seal' that choose randomly the time (only one time per day !) when you could take only one photo.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:32 AM PST

    Hello,

I discovered the app called "Seal" but it's kind of buggy on my smartphone so I'm looking at an other one with the same concept.

One time per day, the app send you randomly a notification (you don't know when it will be !) and at this moment you have only 5 minutes to launch the app and take a picture and share it with the rest of the community.

I like this concept and so I would like to find an alternative with this same behavior. Did reddit's users know such app ?

Thank you for you help :)

    Independent run tracker?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 08:18 AM PST

I had been using Endomondo as my run tracker app until it was unceremoniously terminated at the end of last year. The app simply gave a message to install a new app, "UA Map My Run." It seems like the entire sector of run, workout, and exercise tracking apps have been gobbled up and colonized by major apparel corporations (Under Armour, Nike, Asics, et al.). Can someone recommend an app for running/jogging/walking that won't mine my data? Free apps are great, but I'm also willing to pay for an indie dev's work.

An RSS feed app, that notifies me whenever there's a new entry

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 09:26 PM PST

I currently use aggregator as my RSS feed app. The problem is with this app I only get notified of new entries when I open it, even after making sure that notifications are on, that it updates the feed every 30 minutes, disabling battery optimisation etc.

What I want is an app that sends a notification (not an email) whenever there is a new entry in the selected RSS feeds. I have subscribed to a lot of feeds that give me deals/freebies for games and a lot of these are time limited which is why I want to be notified quickly. Thanks

Action Launcher Beta brings iOS like widget stacks

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:07 AM PST

It's been a long time since I used to use the Action Launcher, Unfortunately it left the race in between the popularity of Nova Launcher and Lawnchair. Recently, Action Launcher brings the iOS like Widgets Stack on it's latest Beta Build. Though, I'm also noticing many new elements in this launcher, as it's around a long time since I used it. Have you tried it as well ? There was a Guy in this subreddit who was for same thing. So here it is !

Help me find a mobile game I used to play!

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:24 PM PST

I used to play this game, and I want to find it again but I can only remember vague details and it's driving me crazy. So basically it's a cartoon-ish puzzle game where you're an intern at a big company. You have to place boxes and pick them up, and there are different modifiers that change the values of the boxes. You then place them on a conveyer and you try to pass the level. There's also little coffee break levels where there's news and things from within the company. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

    Edit: resolved! human resource machine!

How do I share my music from FL?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:44 AM PST

I use FL Studio Mobile, and I have made several good vibes, but at the moment I have no way to share them. Does anybody know of a screen recording app that captures internal audio? Or some way to add the audio to a video? I'd prefer uploading to YouTube.

Looking for a FREE porn blocker that can't be UNINSTALLED without a PASSWORD.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 10:15 AM PST

Hello all! One of my friends has a masturbation addiction and he badly wants to get rid of it. His main source of porn is his phone and he tried multiple free apps that block porn but all of them had one or the other problem. Some are free to download but only give 7 days free trial, some can't be uninstalled without a password but there are bugs that make the bypassing process fairly easy. I too searched with him and didn't find any perfect app. Please recommend a FREE app that BLOCKS porn websites and needs PASSWORD for uninstalling.

    Looking for a list-making app

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 04:54 AM PST

I have many PDFs on my PC, and they're on different drives and folders. Sometimes finding the one I'm looking for takes so much time, and it's really annoying! So I considered writing them down in an app or something and search there instead, but didn't find any app that I feel comfortable with. I want the app to be like: in Drive D, there are "A, B, C, etc." and in Drive E, there are "X, Y, Z" besides, I may want to add or delete some items, so the list needs to be updated and sorted by alphabet order again.

I'm open to your suggestions. Thanks!
