Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:30 AM PST What distro is better? Lubuntu or Linux Mint? I am looking for a mostly snappy, beginner friendly OS that most ubuntu/debian tutorials would work on. Also changing from ZorinOS 15 to one of these. Also are these distro's stable? [link] [comments] |

Which of these options should I choose? (Pop!_Os 20.10) Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:19 PM PST I'm mainly a Windows user and still a noob when it comes to Linux, but recently I've been using Pop!_Os on my laptop to take a break from Windows and I'm considering to make the full switch. But what keeps me back is the battery life. I'm running dual boot with Windows and Pop!_Os on my laptop and when I use Windows I get approximately 6h of battery life, while on Linux I only get about 3h. I use my desktop for gaming and only use this laptop for surfing the web and occasionally writing some notes for my classes, so my main goal is longer battery life. Which of these options should i pick and what each of them does? I've noticed that when i switch to 'NVIDIA Graphics' my fans are crazy loud, other than that I don't notice any difference between the other options. Note: The laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad 5 14'' with Intel core i5 1035G1 and GeForce MX330 [link] [comments] |
any software to add or remove tags from files Posted: 05 Feb 2021 10:45 AM PST On windows you could right click on many files and go to properties and add/remove tags. I would like to do this on Linux. Is there any GUI application that allows you to add or remove tags on files on Linux? [link] [comments] |

Ubuntu LTS in Hyber-V Remote Desktop Screen looks different Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:40 PM PST I spun up a standard Ubuntu LTS 18.04 VM on Hyper-V in Windows 10 and have been using xrdp with a 'xorg' session to log into the VM and I use to see the standard Ubuntu LTS home screen. Today, when I logged in it, is different and looks light blue and I don't have the side panel. Any idea what I can do to fix this? Any idea how to get back to the original Ubuntu screen/desktop? Clone SSD and resize partitions Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:20 PM PST I'm running a Win10/Linux Mint dual boot PC and I've run out of space to install new games on the Windows partition. If I was to clone the SSD to a larger one and use GPartEd from a bootable USB to increase the size of the partition, would that mess up GRUB? If so, are there steps I could take to make it work? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 08:34 AM PST Hey everyone! I am looking for help with the tail -n command, where I want the output of the log files located at /var/log to output the last 50 entries, BUT I only want to check the log files which have been modified in the past 2 weeks. I think I can use the grep command to accomplish what I am trying to do, but I am unsure of the syntax. my current command usage gets me the last 50 entries in the specified log files, but I want to check multiple files at the same time, and ONLY the ones with entries in a date range like one week or two weeks: tail -n 50 shell.log | more Any help is greatly appreciated . Thank you! [link] [comments] |

How to switch default audio output to Bluetooth device connected? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:18 AM PST I am new to Linux and whenever I take the buds out of case they get connected to the Bluetooth but they don't show up in the audio output devices. Each time I have to go to settings to disconnect and connect them again to make my system change the audio output device. Also if I don't do this manually then one of the buds also power off on itself. I think there is some sort of connectivity issue or something. I have attached screenshots for reference.
