    Lubuntu vs Linux Mint?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:30 AM PST

What distro is better? Lubuntu or Linux Mint? I am looking for a mostly snappy, beginner friendly OS that most ubuntu/debian tutorials would work on. Also changing from ZorinOS 15 to one of these. Also are these distro's stable?

Which of these options should I choose? (Pop!_Os 20.10)

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:19 PM PST

I'm mainly a Windows user and still a noob when it comes to Linux, but recently I've been using Pop!_Os on my laptop to take a break from Windows and I'm considering to make the full switch. But what keeps me back is the battery life. I'm running dual boot with Windows and Pop!_Os on my laptop and when I use Windows I get approximately 6h of battery life, while on Linux I only get about 3h. I use my desktop for gaming and only use this laptop for surfing the web and occasionally writing some notes for my classes, so my main goal is longer battery life. Which of these options should i pick and what each of them does? I've noticed that when i switch to 'NVIDIA Graphics' my fans are crazy loud, other than that I don't notice any difference between the other options.

Note: The laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad 5 14'' with Intel core i5 1035G1 and GeForce MX330

any software to add or remove tags from files

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 10:45 AM PST

On windows you could right click on many files and go to properties and add/remove tags. I would like to do this on Linux. Is there any GUI application that allows you to add or remove tags on files on Linux?

xorg doesnt work also problem with libinput on gentoo.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 11:35 AM PST

    kernel .config: https://dpaste.com/H5SECRVUP

    make.conf config https://dpaste.com/27UENV9BS

    Xorg.0.log https://dpaste.com/2MVEUE2JS

    dmesg https://dpaste.com/6GM3VJ8NR

I'm very confused about this problem I will try explain it in as many details as possible if I missed something please tell me. If anyone can help with anything thanks a lot

    1) xorg starts i3 instead of dwm. when I use the startx/xinit command I get send into i3 instead of dwm, this is really weird since looking at the man page it says this

To determine the client to run, startx looks for the following files, in order:

    $(HOME)/.startxrc (I amuse this is /home/user/)

    /usr/lib64/sys.startxrc

    $(HOME)/.xinitrc

    /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

The only files I have are the $(HOME)/.startxrc which contains only this:

    exec dwm

and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc which doesn't have anything about i3 in it. Can someone explain.

    2) i3 doesn't recognize any input from my mouse or keyboard. this is most likely a problem with lib inpus since reading the log file ( https://dpaste.com/2MVEUE2JS )

[ 827.019] (II) LoadModule: "libinput" [ 827.019] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module libinput [ 827.019] (EE) Failed to load module "libinput" (module does not exist, 0) [ 827.019] (EE) No input driver matching `libinput' [ 827.019] (II) Falling back to input driver `libinput'

This kinda makes it look like i have installed libinpus wrongly which might as well be the case so I will recheck and edit this if I didn't find any problems, another thing this reminds me of is the CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV kernel .config option but that is selected as build in so IDK.

If anyone can help ma in any way I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance

Ubuntu LTS in Hyber-V Remote Desktop Screen looks different

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:40 PM PST

I spun up a standard Ubuntu LTS 18.04 VM on Hyper-V in Windows 10 and have been using xrdp with a 'xorg' session to log into the VM and I use to see the standard Ubuntu LTS home screen. Today, when I logged in it, is different and looks light blue and I don't have the side panel. Any idea what I can do to fix this? Any idea how to get back to the original Ubuntu screen/desktop?

    Clone SSD and resize partitions

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:20 PM PST

I'm running a Win10/Linux Mint dual boot PC and I've run out of space to install new games on the Windows partition.

If I was to clone the SSD to a larger one and use GPartEd from a bootable USB to increase the size of the partition, would that mess up GRUB? If so, are there steps I could take to make it work?

    Hi,

    Using Arch Linux, KDE

Sometimes I plug in an external drive and it won't appear, not even detected with fdisk

It does show up with lsusb, and here is what I got with dmesg

Looking for help with tail -n

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 08:34 AM PST

Hey everyone! I am looking for help with the tail -n command, where I want the output of the log files located at /var/log to output the last 50 entries, BUT I only want to check the log files which have been modified in the past 2 weeks. I think I can use the grep command to accomplish what I am trying to do, but I am unsure of the syntax.

my current command usage gets me the last 50 entries in the specified log files, but I want to check multiple files at the same time, and ONLY the ones with entries in a date range like one week or two weeks:

    tail -n 50 shell.log | more

Any help is greatly appreciated . Thank you!

Squid Proxy via HAProxy send client IP to squid logs

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 11:40 PM PST

Hey, I was tasked to load balance two Squid Proxy servers via HAProxy and I managed to configure it by following this thread. The problem is that if I check the logs on the Squid Server's access logs, it shows my HAProxy IP instead of the client's IP. I have the following configuration for my HAProxy :

    frontend squid_in bind *:8181 use_backend squid_pool backend squid_pool balance roundrobin http-request add-header X-Forwarded-For %[src] mode http server pxy1 x.x.x.12:3128 #check port 8080 send-proxy inter 2000 rise 2 fall 3

    and on my Squid Server:

acl localnet src x.x.x.10 #HAProxy Server

    My questions are:

    1. How do I configure HAProxy to forward the client's IP instead of HAProxy IP?
    2. How can I add a health check on my Squid so HAProxy can monitor it with check port 8080 send-proxy inter 2000 rise 2 fall 3?

Better suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

    Hi all

So, I tried to setup a server for my wordpress, with database and everything.

Things didn't go as planned.. so I wanted to remove mariadb and swith to mysql (because alot of epopel reported the same problem I had with mariadb).

But now, I just can't install my sql. I tried a lot of things, from purge to auto clean etc.

    When installing, this happenend:

How to set dark mode for only one particular application in GNOME? (gnome-terminal)

How to switch default audio output to Bluetooth device connected?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:18 AM PST

I am new to Linux and whenever I take the buds out of case they get connected to the Bluetooth but they don't show up in the audio output devices. Each time I have to go to settings to disconnect and connect them again to make my system change the audio output device. Also if I don't do this manually then one of the buds also power off on itself. I think there is some sort of connectivity issue or something. I have attached screenshots for reference.
