Posted: 04 Feb 2021 09:16 AM PST a windows wiki would be a cool thing to make and i think this is something that Microsoft should do because Wikipedia is not that relay able so it would be cool and like the stories of windows 95 or windows longhorn and just put details about some rare or unknown windows versions. and games like minecraft has own offical wiki so i think there should be one for the long story of windows, so if you think this would be cool then replay. Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:32 PM PST Hey; when you download an app from the Windows store, where are the icons? I like a few of them and would like to use the icon after uninstalling the app. I went into the install directory & couldn't find any .ico files there. Right clicking the app doesn't really give any indication where the icon is. [link] [comments]

Forgot password for XP desktop. Need to boot from floppy. Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:39 PM PST I have an old desktop PC that is runs on Windows XP. I tried logging in and don't remember the password. I've tried troubleshooting all the suggestions here without any success. https://www.muo.com/tag/5-tips-to-help-you-reset-a-forgotten-windows-xp-password/ The CD drive won't open and I can't boot from USB. I tried loading this http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/main.html on a floppy disk but got a boot error message. Is there anything else I can use that will boot from a floppy disk? Any consequences to renaming my main admin account something else using computer management? Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:32 PM PST I'm assuming that screws up all the save pathways I have listed in other programs but beyond that are there any consequences to renaming a PC user? [link] [comments]

I am going crazy looking for legacy software (HELP) Posted: 04 Feb 2021 05:43 PM PST Okay, you may think I am crazy (because I am starting to myself) but I could swear Apple introduced a version of Photos for Windows a long time ago (when Jobs was alive). So I understand that it may not work as I think it might. I was a Mac user then, now a Windows user. Still an ios user, hate the ios Photo app, hate "Photos" in iCloud and made a "Hackintosh" out of an old iMac so I could use the photo app in Big Sur (because it is actually decent) but the iMac is on its way to being a donated windows machine. I don't want to subscribe to Lightroom because I don't need to pay $120 USD to manage by photos. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 05:31 PM PST Having some trouble with a new gaming pc and some BSODs. I've used WinDbg to analyze the dmg files (below), but I'm not really an expert at reading these. This hasn't occurred when I'm actively using the PC or gaming, but seems to happen when it's left alone. As far as I can see, one points to Steam as the main culprit, and the other to MSI Afterburner. I've run memtest86 for 4 passes, and no problems found with the memory. Wondering if anyone here sees anything I might be missing? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 User profile isolation Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:42 PM PST How much user profile isolation is possible on Windows 10? I'm mainly wondering, if there are multiple users on a computer and one of them is very reckless and gets malware or a virus, would limited windows permissions for that user and user profile isolation be enough to stop other Windows users in the same PC from being affected? Is Windows 7 still a viable option? Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:56 AM PST My sister is running a pretty weak machine (Dual core 2-thread processor and 4GB of RAM), and Windows 10 keeps pestering her about upgrading to the latest version, only for the update to revert all changes at the last minute because her computer just can't handle it, making her lose a lot of time and her marbles. Getting a new computer right now isn't really an option, so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to install Win 7 on her machine so she is no longer bombarded with updates that will lead to nowhere, however, I don't know what risks using Win 7 in 2021 would pose. She mainly uses her computer for drawing with Fire Alpaca on her Wacom tablet and watching YouTube, so she doesn't download a lot of crazy stuff that could expose her to viruses. So would downgrading her computer be a good idea? Are browsers and app developers still supporting Windows 7? Would Windows 8 maybe be a better option? Thanks in advance for any answers [link] [comments]
WINDOWS 10. PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA. What failed: tpkd.sys Posted: 04 Feb 2021 12:02 PM PST Hi, I'm a really dumb musician and I install plugins from internet and this time I installed an effect that made me install some kind of driver for it to work and said restart your pc. So I did it but now when I restart my pc I get the blue window saying: Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. Then it restarts but shows the same message again. And after couple of restarts it goes to this automatic repair window and suggests me to restart my PC or press advanced options. I press advanced options but I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT TO DO THERE? Can I somehow delete this driver that I installed in a simpler way? [link] [comments]
Help please? DNS server not found, tried multiple solutions but nothing has worked. Posted: 04 Feb 2021 03:46 PM PST My laptop of 18 months at most has just thrown this network problem at me. It's a acer predator 300 on windows 10. Never had a problem before. The router is fine and other devices are linked wirelessly. Can not connect laptop to any cell phone hotspot. Try to open the internet and get hit with; The DNS server can not be found. Or DNS_PROBE_STARTED. Tried changing the DNS in my wireless adapter (killer ax1650) settings to some ones found on google but nothing. Tried changing back to automatic but nothing. Tried resetting network settings, forgetting and reconnecting, restarting both computer and router. Tried clearing google chrome cache and host cache, tried using command print to flush dns and renew and other stuff, nothing. At some stage the internet did work again, tried rebooting to be sure the laptop would work at 8am when I start work and it went off again when it booted back up. PLEASEEEEE any help anyone?? Make a GPT drive unbootable without data loss Posted: 04 Feb 2021 09:40 AM PST I currently have a Omen laptop with a NVMe SSD as main and an HDD as secondary which used to host my windows (it's in GPT format). I just can't seem to find a way to boot on my SSD first so every time i have to press the boot option when i launch my computer and choose the SSD, otherwise it boots on HDD. I was wondering if there was any way to make that GPT HDD non bootable ? I tried the INACTIVE command in cmd but since it's not MBR it doesn't work. Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 09:31 AM PST Hello, I have installed the Bing Wallpaper on my Windows 10, and the images are spectacular. Only problem: sometimes they are so colorful or with many textures that it makes it difficult for me to see the icons and their names of the shortcuts and files I have on the desktop. Is there any possibility to darken the background a bit? Maybe with a script or something? Cheers! [link] [comments]
Java Control Panel poped up out of nowhere Posted: 04 Feb 2021 01:14 PM PST As the title says, i was browsing in chrome normally, and then all of a sudden, it seemingly just popped up, when i don't remember clicking anything specific to open it. Should i be concerned at all? [link] [comments]
