Oneplus 8 broke under warranty. Two weeks after sending it in they claim it is unfixable and are sending it back

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 02:13 PM PST

Phone wouldn't power on at all. What a joke. First they never sent the shipping label, had to bug them for that. Then they receive the phone and every time I follow up they have issues finding the case. Then they keep saying they will escalate it and not to worry. Then I get an email today from someone at service saying it is unfixable because it has an Indian mainboard. The phone is a US phone purchased here from T-Mobile. No answers, the phone support has no clue and just says we can't fix it. What the hell

    I'll be honest...

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 05:27 PM PST

I've been a Pixel user for the past 3 years, was tired of their terrible QA on hardware and was 100% certain my next phone would be a OnePlus. That is, until I saw how terrible they've become with updates on brand new handsets.

Really too bad, as I was looking forward to having a fast, beautiful phone with quick Android/security updates. Here's hoping a new brand comes out of the woodwork this year to take on the crown that OP once held in the "enthusiast" community.

How to change Shelf back to AMOLED black?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 09:08 AM PST

The other day I woke up and went to add a note to my shelf, but to my surprise the background was a bright blue instead of the nice AMOLED black that I'm used to and I can't find any way to change it.

My phone is pretty heavily customized but not rooted, so nearly everything on my phone is black or dark, and a random bright blue background is a bit jarring compared to the rest of my phone.

Any ideas on how to change it back? Even a rooted solution? I'm really considering rooting once the 7T gets OOS 11 because I have the T-mobile version which forces you to auto update if there's an update available for more than a week and I really hate the design changes of OOS 11, especially the grey replacement for AMOLED black (if I wanted grey I would've bought an LCD phone lol) in nearly every UI element with dark mode on, I'm assuming both are possible to reverse with rooting since it's just a simple color change but if I'm wrong please let me know!

I'm really getting tired of this "OnePlus knows what you want more than you know what you want" bullshit, just let me customize the phone the way I want it!

Waiting for a replacement for a month and a half. What can I do?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 03:39 PM PST

I sent some OnePlus buds off for replacement due to not holding a charge at the beginning of January and after 3 weeks of no updates aside from the initial response that it'd been received at the service centre, I've had nothing back. I've got in touch using the online chat and by calling 7 times since. Each time 8 was told to wait a certain number of days and I'd be contacted again. After the inevitable period elapsed, sometimes 48 hours sometimes 5 business days, nothing has been done and after my last phonecall in which they said the same thing I've all but lost hope. I'm out of pocket £79 and out of the 3 months I've owned the item, about half of that they've been faulty or in a service centre awaiting appraisal. I've probably spent a total of 4-5 hours just trying to get the issue resolved through being on hold and talking to various agents. At this point i couldn't care less for a replacement product and just want my money back. What can I do?

    Camera usage notification light

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 05:24 AM PST

Just updated my OP8Pro to the newest 11.0.3.3 updated and noticed that instead of the old white circle around the front facing camera, now I have a green circle going around it and transforming into a small green dot right next to the camera. I didn't see any updates in the change log regarding this however. I updated from latest stable before this.

Just thought that I let you know this small feature.

    YouTube auto-rotate is finally fixed!

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 03:03 AM PST

Oxygen OS update (for 8 pro at least) has finally fixed the rotation problems.

    Go update!

    Hallelujah!

It's like having toothache. You don't ever think about how good you've had it until something like that comes along.

New OnePlus Backpack just arrived [First impression review]

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 05:48 AM PST

On January 8th at 5pm OnePlus released their new Urban Traveler backpack in germany and it just arrived yesterday. I got the one in charcoal black, eventho I kinda liked the white one, I was afraid it wouldn't match my style because its pretty futuristic looking. And well, black is always a good match.

I gotta say I am very impressed! The quality of this backpack seems to be very good. Feels stable and nicely clean processed. The back cushions/pads are also very comfortable so you really cant feel a thing thats in your backpack. Since I got the first OnePlus backpack for 2 years now I am gonna compare the new one to it.

The optics are great! I was a afraid that it could look "too flat", which I would probably have disliked a bit, since I personally don't like these super-flat backpacks. Well I definitely wasn't disappointed, it looks just great and even better than on the pictures!

The pockets all are big in size, the front pocket has now even more space to fill. They removed the side pockets but they were so tight they felt pretty useless anyway. They also adjusted the notebook pocket by moving the zipper up to behind the right shoulder strap, which gives you a better feeling about security, since its impossible to reach while being carried on the back.

The backpack has a 20L capacity which is enough for daily usage. It also is water proof/resistant, they even sealed the zipper, which has a nice touch.

Speaking of which, the zippers feel so satisfying and so nice to use, I'll give it a good 9/10 zip-unzip experience. That's a great design improvement compared to the old backpack: Sometimes the zipper would get stuck in the fabric that slightly covers the zipper, which wasn't a biggie but if you weren't paying attention it sometimes could've happen. Well the new backpack doesn't have that problem anymore, which is a really nice thing.

The whole backpack feels like a quality build and in my opinion definitely worth the 80 bucks.

I wouldn't spend that money on a Tommy Hilfiger, Fjällräven, Kapten and Sons when I can have this OnePlus backpack.

Also: As I said, I own the first OnePlus backpack since more than 2 years now and use it everyday for grocery shopping etc. Still looks almost as new. I hope OnePlus keeps their build quality but on my first impression, they probably do.

    Assistant Call Screening on 8T?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 02:33 PM PST

I've been juggling about where I want to go from my Pixel 2 XL, and I've been thinking either an 8T or a Pixel 5.

I really like the manual call screening feature, but I can't seem to find out if it's available on the 8T. Since OxygenOS is now on Android 11 I thought it might be a possibility.

I'd also love to hear any other thoughts anybody might have, especially if you switched from a Pixel phone. Thanks!

    Oneplus nord fingerprint sensor question

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 01:53 PM PST

I just received my nord today and I'm coming from OP6 so this is my first experience with in-screen fingerprint sensor. The thing is when I pickup my phone, the screen shows the place for the sensor but when I press it, it's not responsive at all. I need to click the power button and then press on the sensor to work. Is this normal??

Nord 5G as hotspot-- does the 5G band reliably work yet?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 01:36 PM PST

Hi-- i tried checking here first to see answers about this, but found conflicting info. Does the 5G band work for the hotspot function on the nord 5G? im betwen it and a 7t (longtime oneplus user that has used my 6T to death, dont have the budget for an 8t or 9), i know the 7t is better in most ways but my internet upload speeds have been a recurring issue and having a 5G hotspot built into my phone as a backup would actually be a huge, huge benefit (I'm in nyc so coverage isnt an issue & have unlimited 5G apparently on my tmobile plan). thank you so much!

    4g problem

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 01:23 PM PST

Hello, sorry in advance for bad English.

I just bought a One Plus Nord and I just realized that it don't connect to the 4g. When I go in the settings, network, sim and access point, it says that "access point settings are not available for this user" (this is a translation from french).

I checked online but didn't find an answers. I'm really not a specialist in network so I don't know what to do. A friend of mine told me to post here my question before trying to get another sim card.

Thanks a lot for reading me and trying to help if you can.

From Samsung S9/S10 to OnePlus 8T

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 11:39 PM PST

This is for those who switched form Samsung S9/S10 and higher. How do you guys deal with the new phone, OnePlus 8T, without using the Samsung side panel, and Samsung notes. What's the alternative for those. I have a hard time adapting without those must have apps for me. Also Samsung pay but I can get away using Google pay.

Has any OnePlus user faced the issue of "temporarily login failure" while logging into snapchat?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 04:13 AM PST

I haven't used snapchat in awhile and wanted to log back in. I recently got OnePlus 8 and it hasn't even been a month (happy with the product so far). But as I started to log in, it keeps telling me that login has failed temporarily, and that I should visit snapchat site. I did visit.

Went back to my old phone and I can login there easily. I've tried to watch all videos to solve this problem and tried everything (from uninstalling, checking data/WiFi to changing password etc.) and nothing seems to work.

Anyone experienced this issue and knows the solution to it? Thanks for reading.

Does anyone else not get ANY numbers from OP about their charging speed without official charger/cable?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 09:22 AM PST

I wrote an e-mail regarding the max wattage the phone supports without the original Charger/cable to the support, but I can't get any numbers from them. They just tell me that it "won't charge with 30 watts and will charge much slower". When I ask them for numbers they just say "they don't have information about the chargers of other manufacturers". Has anyone ever got official numbers from OP regarding charging speed?

Btw, these aren't direct quotes, they're from german

There's no way to fix *just* the lock button, right? (5T)

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 11:25 PM PST

A few months ago I unfortunately dropped my 5T in a way that cracked the screen, but since it's just a couple cracks and the functionality wasn't impacted at all I decided to continue using it. But a couple weeks ago my lock button started acting up. Some days it works better, some days barely at all. I usually have to press it several times to lock or unlock the screen, and really hard as well. Sometimes my phone just randomly restarts which it didn't used to do, I think that might have to do with the lock button as well. Unfortunately double tapping the screen to wake the phone doesn't always work either for some reason, so I really do need the lock button.

Is there a way to fix/replace just that button or is it time to retire my beloved 5T? I'd have loved to keep it another year or so, the battery is still great and it's kind of a shame to have to get a new phone because of just the lock button.

Oneplus 7 bluetooth issue with music and calls

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:10 AM PST

My oneplus 7's bluetooth has been a bit buggy lately. When I bluetooth device is connected and music is playing, if I call someone, I can use the device normally for the call. When the call hangs up, music resumes playing on my phone but not on the bluetooth device. I can see the progression bar going forward in multiple music apps, some offline and some streaming apps, but I can hear nothing on the bluetooth headset. I have already cleared the bluetooth cache and storage. Though it fixed the problem temporarily, the problem returned. Any idea what might be a permanent fix? Thanks.
