    Help resetting S9

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:48 PM PST

Hello, iPhone user here so I am not familiar with android devices. I have an old work phone (Galaxy S9 on android 8.0.) I was told to keep it after the company shut down. The phone has an old work contact I am not in touch with listed as a Samsung account under 'accounts'. My Gmail account is also added here but I believe the Samsung account might be the main one? If I factory reset this device will the FRP kick in and will I need the Samsung account password? Will I be able to log back in with my gmail account? Is there a way to remove the Samsung account without the password?

    Thanks in advance!

Swapped to an old version of messenger to get rid of chat bubbles, unable to send pictures now.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:18 PM PST

As the title says, I swapped from the current version of messenger to v266.0.0.16.117 in order to get the old chat heads back. That all works great, but for some reason I cannot send any pictures, whether I am taking them in the app or sending from the files. All the permissions are good to go as well.

I've tried clearing cache and data as suggested online, and tried different versions but I get the same issue each time.

I am on a pixel 3XL on Android 11 btw.

Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

Is there an app that takes screenshots temporarily?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:56 PM PST

The feature I'm looking for is similar to the auto-destruct feature found in the messaging app wickr.

Basically, I would like a screenshot app that takes the screen and keeps it on my phone for a set amount of time and deletes it once that time has passed.

It should also have a feature where the screenshot has an option to not get deleted if I want to keep it forever.

    I'm using android OS.

    Thank you.

    Husband’s Google Activity: documentsUI

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:34 PM PST

So, I caught my husband cheating on me a few months ago. He had been hiding all kinds of secret accounts on his phone for various apps. It was a huge mess.

Now, every once and a while I'll look into his google activity just to see what he does now that he's promised to never hide things from me again. Not obsessively, maybe once a month or so.

It constantly says he is opening com.android.documentUI, along with Adobe PDF and some other PDF reading app, as well. At strange times. And he isn't someone who has business with PDFs, he doesn't have applications or statements to download or anything.

But it's like, everyday. And I've found every other way he's hidden everything else from me. So I guess maybe it's his last resort. Because he acts suspiciously with his phone A LOT. And it drives me nuts that I never see anything on it once I open it up. I know people hide porn in their file apps, but I'm just not exactly sure how to get into it.

At this point I want to see what he's doing so I can just leave him. I just wonder how to access these documents he's ALWAYS opening and see what's really on them.

This might sound pathetic because, well... it is. But I need to know. It's killing me. When I open his documents and PDFS they look stiff and normal. There's got to be a reason he's looking into them every single day.

Xiaomi Mi A3 (Android One) screenshot

Edit: looks like the accessibility menu shortcut with some dots on top. But the menu is disabled and if I enable it it replaces this one. It also only shows with the keyboard. Glitch?

Edit 2: nevermind, looking around for this specific phone/update it seems like it has tons of other bugs I have yet to discover. Was even blissfully unaware of the previous update attempt.

Guess I can mark this as solved. Was very intrigued and now I'm just disappointed.

Skin + Clear Case advice, S21

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 08:08 PM PST

Sup guys, i ordered an s21 violet color, upgrading from my long overdue s8.

Planning on using a dark skin for the back, leaving the gold camera as is. Then using a clear case on top of it.

Question 1. Is using a skin + thin clear case bad for phone temperature?

Question 2. Samsung clear cover, spigen liquid crystal or ringke fusion? Which of these is the thinnest?

    Samsung Note 10+ Default Store

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:48 PM PST

Is there a way to change the default store from Google Play to the Amazon App Store?

I'm trying to use Amazon coins to purchase things on a game and even if I only open the app through Amazon Store, it always reverts back to the Google Play Store on its own.

Today, it took less than an hour to do so, and I never even closed the app.

Right now I'm simply uninstalling and reinstalling, but that gets old.

    Thanks.

Any way to manually/continuously throttle the CPU on my Pixel XL to last longer with a dying battery?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:44 PM PST

I have a Pixel XL from late-2016. It works fine for my needs despite being over 4 years old. I have spent a total of $500 for this phone, or maybe even less. A fantastic deal so far.

But, the battery is obviously dying a slow painful death now.

I hate that these devices don't let you easily swap out the battery.

Changing the battery on my Nexus 5 was easy and cheap. With these newer devices, even a brain surgeon couldn't do the swap easily.

Now, obviously, the battery is so worn out that under high workloads, without a connection to a power outlet, the phone just blacks out. High workloads are things like phone calls and starting Google Maps.

The only thing preventing this phone from dying in the 2 hours that I'm out of the house for every day is the Battery Saver, turning off cellular data, and just not using it much. I also have a giant 20k mAh battery pack that I leave the phone plugged into when its in my bag.

Has anyone tried uBreakiFix? I don't wan to spend almost $100 to have them replace the battery. And, I don't want to spend a much on this dying phone.

This seems like a risk: amazon.com/s?k=pixel+xl+battery.

I wish there was some developer setting that allowed me to really downthrottle this phone. Even if it becomes slow, I don't mind!

I know that it is time for me to splurge $500 for a Pixel 4a with 5G. It's an okay deal. Times have certainly worsened. I'm not impressed with these newer phones yet. I'd like to wait till August before buying a new one.

I hate the battery situation in the entire smartphone world. Perhaps Apple is fairer in this regard with their ~$50 battery change and CPU throttling options. They were justified in my opinion with their background throttling but should've been more open about it. They shouldn't have been fined over it. Battery tech just isn't there yet.

The only phones I consider worth buying these days is a Pixel or iPhone, and maybe the OnePlus. And, since iOS is still a jailed garden where you can't even easily and manually transfer data from the phone to anything else, I prefer Pixel/Android. Google really needs to get its ish together and release better phones.

For my next phone purchase, I was thinking of buying it with a battery pack case to avoid these issues. Will that delay the inevitable demise of the battery by at least 1 to 2 years?

    Mysterious files appeared

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:36 PM PST

Hi, hoping someone can help me with this story, because I really don't know what the heck is going on. This might be somewhat long but it's worth it.

Also, if this is not the right place for something like that, please let me know if there's a better place to post this.

So, two weeks ago my father's phone gave up on him, it died and he needed a new one. He's in his fifties and only uses his phone for calls, photos and sometimes YouTube. So I bought a Moto G7 Play on Amazon. I got it delivered to me, updated the phone system, (Android 10) all the basic apps, installed literally two additional apps and synced his email/Google account. I didn't have much time to work on it so I did whatever I could think of doing to get the phone ready to use for him. I inserted his SIM card, tested making calls and showed him the basics of how the phone works, simple stuff...

Now it's two weeks later and my father calls me to say that he tried to take pictures with the phone and when he went to check then out in the gallery there were a bunch of pictures... That he didn't take.

Photos of medical records, private informations and loads of it from what he tells me. Not only that but the records seem to belong to or refer to someone that may live one or two blocks away from his appartment building.

We don't live near each others so it will be a few days before I can get my hands on the phone and see it for myself but I intend to investigate on wtf happened.

How the hell could that have happened ?

The phone seemed to be completely new, I did the initialisation so I'm sure it has at least been factory reset before I got it. All of the accessories/papers/plastics where there, zero traces of usage on the phone and the Amazon listing says it is a brand new phone, so I'm pretty sure it's brand new and not refurbished or a return.

He doesn't have internet or a router at his place, no computer as well, so I really have a hard time figuring where this came from ?!

If you have any ideas, please share. I will update when I get my hands on the phone and get a hard look at what's up with it.

    How to consolidate group chats?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 01:34 PM PST

Android 11, latest security update. Pixel 3XL on Fi.

My mother insists on creating a new group chat every time she has something she wants to say to the family. Many of these group chats (RCS, using Android Messages) are to all the same people, but appear as separate threads in my phone. Is there any way for me to combine them, even if only on my end? I don't need 3 separate group chats between her, me, and my sister from the last week all sitting at the top of my messages (for example).

I'm aware that the simpler solution would be to teach her how to reuse them. She got mad the last time I suggested this, saying that she didn't want to scroll until she found the correct one.

    Set home address with coordinates?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:51 PM PST

(Galaxy S8) Basically the title. I would like to set my home address with the coordinates instead of the address.

This is in order to get Smart Lock to work properly. The building I live in is too far from the address pin associated with it, and there's no alternate address nearby that I am in consistent range of.

Smart lock doesn't allow coordinates, but it does seem to allow you to pick your home address. Goal was to set home address to coordinates, then tell smart lock to use my home address to see if that was a work around.

I tried setting my home address from chrome on my desktop. It allows me to enter and save coordinates, and the home pin does in fact get placed in the correct location. However if I were to try and use my home location for navigation or Smart Lock, Maps acts like it hasn't been set.

So yeah that's it, would be stoked to find a solution. It actually was working great the first couple of days. Realizing that the closest address is the shopping center next to me, that that was the location it initially had picked, and that I only occasionally appear within range, was very frustrating. lol.

I'm guessing this just isn't something that Google has implemented yet but fingers crossed. Sorry if this isn't android centric enough, but I figured since it's mainly about getting Smart Lock to do things it'd pass.

    Thanks ya'll!

I want to root my Huawei y9 2019 so I can use the screencam rom but from what I have seen I need the bootle unlock code for my device in order to root it which huawei has stopped providing. I wanted to know if there's any other way to get the bootle unlock code or can I root my phone without it? Can my huawei phones even be rooted now that the bootloader unlock code is not accessible?

How to remove/disable system app without root?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:57 AM PST

I have samsung m21 not rooted. I tried to remove and disable Samsung Game Optimizing Service via ADB, it saying success when i entered the remove command, but in phone it doesn't removed. Also i try disabling via ADB too, it also giving another success message but app not disabled in phone. I tried to remove an random app downloaded from gplay store, and it removed perfectly (btw i removed some system apps in same phone via adb before). I searched this issue and i saw some people have same problem. I tried to disable that app from Package disabler pro (samsung) and CCSWE app manager (samsung) but M21 doesn't have Knox, so that method didn't worked too. Game Optimizing Service app is limiting your fps to 40. I dont want to root my phone. I want to remove, disable this app without root. How can i do that? Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Is 1440p resolution on Samsung phones TRUE 1440p?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:48 AM PST

So I was talking about how I used adb to increase my resolution to a pixel below WQHD+ on my s20 Ultra while maintaining 120Hz refresh rate and this is what someone said in response:

    ----------------v

It's not true 1440p 120hz. It just tells the apps it's using a resolution lower than 1440p, but the screen isn't actually running at 1440p. Especially if you realize that the S20 screen doesn't actually have enough hardware pixels in the screen for 1440p because it's a simulated pentile 1440p. Stuff look better because of the images put out are 1440p. It's like how looking at 1440p images on a 1080p screen looks better than 1080p images, but you aren't really seeing in 1440p.

1440p on Samsung screens is a lie. It's actually a 1080p screen in terms if number of RGB pixels, except that the G pixels are cut into 2 smaller pieces. Then they use differential light intensity on the green pixels to create smoother antialiasing making it look as sharp as a 1440p screen.

This is actually the reason why it's shipped at 1080p, because it burns in faster at 1440p since the light intensities are uneven.

    ----------------^

So I used an app screeninfo it does say my screen dimensions are 1439 x 2932 which is what I set as well as 120Hz refresh rate but then in the Samsung settings it does say I'm using HD+.

So what's true, is Samsungs 1440p really not true 1440p and therefore maybe the system just thinks its displaying a higher resolution when it in fact isn't. Anyone know if it is or isn't then, it's really hard to tell just by looking at the screen.

    TV App Repo HTTPS Question

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:17 PM PST

With tv app repo you can create a apk that it visible on android tv, it can make two different apks for different tasks one for installing a shortcut to open a different apk for the purpose of making a visable banner for sideloaded apks the other function is that it can open a https link in a browser window from a shortcut/banner on the Home Screen! I am trying to find a way to put these two functions together, I would like a single apk that can open a linked apk and also send a https get request silently instead of opening a browser

    https://github.com/ITVlab/TvAppRepo/releases/tag/1.1.4

Can any body make me a template I could edit and build with android studio? Or aware of a app that can do this or something similar? I am VERY new to this and could do with some help please

How To Manually Add Permissions in Android 11

I want to export messages from an app, however when I go to do that it says unable to write to storage. When I went to check the storage permissions, it says "media only." How do I give it greater access if it doesn't ask for it? Maybe I accidentally clicked no the first time or something (I don't remember a prompt but I'd imagine it would ask for it).

When trying to run the shell command they give $./adb shell sh /sdcard/Android/data/com.zzzmode.appopsx/opsx.sh & Powershell does not like the &. What am I doing wrong?
