| Posted: 09 Jan 2021 01:38 PM PST I have a few questions about how to safely download APKs. I do not use the Play Store for privacy reasons, I download my apps for F-Droid or APK Mirror. Unfortunately, these sources do not have every app I need. How effective is Virus Total at ensuring the safety of APKs? The only site I can find my banking app on is 'fileplanet' so I am trying to be extra careful. Virus Total says the APK looks safe. How do I find the official hash (SHA, MD5, etc) of an app on the Play Store? I know how to use Hash Droid or Virus Total to find the hash of a specific APK, but I need to find the hash of the official app to compare. Also, what is the general consensus on the safety of APK Pure? Any safe sites like APK Mirror you could recommend? Any help is appreciated. | Cannot reinstall default version of an app after uninstalling an apk version Posted: 09 Jan 2021 10:57 PM PST So yesterday I installed a beta version of Discord on my phone (Google Pixel 3a, Android 11) from an apk . I uninstalled the Google Play Store version and installed the apk. After using it for a bit, I uninstalled it, deleted the apk, and went to the Google Play Store to reinstall the default version. I pressed install, and it installed within 2 seconds and upon opening it, I checked the version and it was the beta version I deleted. I was extremely confused on how this could be, considering that the play store version should be the default version of the app since I wasn't in the beta program. I also deleted the apk file earlier so it couldn't be that. I uninstalled it and restarted my device, to try and fix this. I tried installing again and what happened was the same as before. This wouldn't be much of an issue, however this beta version is extremely buggy and using it is a nightmare. Does anyone know what to do? I'm at my wit's end and google searches weren't able to help as my problem seems unique. [link] [comments]  |

Since my Samsung A50 updated in December I have been unable to search for emojis, instead needing to scroll through to find what I want. Whenever I do try it the keyboard comes up with "Can't search up emojis in the current input language" I have looked in the keyboard settings and tried looking online to no avail. The only thing is that everytime I open it, I get this pop up telling me it's not gonna work without play services (which isn't the case but whatever). Any way to stop that from happening? It's kinda creepy... I want to share file which is located in my personal profile, through an app(let say Gmail) which is located in work profile.Earlier when I was using Stock android in some other device there used to be an option of "switch to work profile" after clicking on share button, but now I can't find this on Samsung OneUI 2.5(based on Android 10). | Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:11 PM PST so i have no idea what is going on but my phone will sometimes randomly pause a video i am watching on YouTube and/or the volume will slider will start coming up and going up or down randomly without me doing anything. On top of that Google assistant keep playing some sound in the background and was also reading me the time on the screen. I did disable Google assistant but even when i did that the activation sound still kept playing randomly. now i will say (as i have tried looking into this problem before posting on here) that this did start happening when i had my headphones in (which are pretty old and honestly need to be replaced) and nothing was happening when my headphones where out but then again its seemed so random that you can never know for sure in any case. That said it was not doing this until a few days ago so i am not sure why its all of a sudden decided to do it now. does anyone know why this is happening by any chance? [link] [comments]  |

| Does anyone else have storage issues? Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:17 PM PST I've had a Moto G(7) for a little under a year now, and I always get this notification that I'm running out of storage. It currently says I have used 98%. I don't use apps a whole lot aside from facebook, online banking, reddit, snapchat and tik-tok here and there and don't have any games. I deleted all of my photos/videos off my phone after I backed them up to my Gmail account associated with the phone. I've cleared all my google tabs and restart it every few days because I assume that's good for the phone. Everytime I click the notification, it allows me to "clear trash" which is anywhere from 100-300 mb. My phone is definitely slower and doesn't function as well. Any one else have this problem/know some common fixes? I'm pretty ignorant in terms of phone health to be honest. Thanks- Tl;dr- Phone storage bad. Need help. Small brain. [link] [comments]  |

Sometimes it will but other times which happens frequently it will try to open but just screen flash then stay on homescreen till I click again. | Issues with "5G" on my new S20 FE Posted: 09 Jan 2021 05:41 PM PST I just upgraded to an S20FE and it works great for the most part, the only issue is my mobile data. It'll say it's either using 4G LTE or 5G (which doesn't make sense to me, apparently it hasn't even rolled out in the US yet? Marketing thing?) And whenever it says 5G my mobile data just doesn't work. SOMETIMES it works slowly, but most of the time my multimedia messages won't go through and loading anything on data just doesn't work. I looked online and some people mention to change the service type from Global to LTE, or another "non 5G" setting. Doing this only seems to make it switch to 4G sometimes. Is there a way I can just totally disable this 5G thing? I want it to ONLY use 4G like my S8 did. Setting it to LGE doesn't always make it use LGE for some reason. Is there another step I can take? Edit: found an app called Force LTE that let's you.. well.. force your phone to only use LTE. Seems to be working fine. Silly Samsung [link] [comments]  |

(Saving the details on the reasons why I have to find a way to protect my family on a budget for a comment below) but what I'm trying (hoping) to accomplish is to find the best and most affordable way (ideally using (free if possible) apps and any other settings on the Android 9 software) to:
** I need the phone to trigger the video and audio recording functions of my phone once it hears me say whatever keyword or phrase.** (I have some pretty low life family that's happy to show up on announced and barg in literally threatening and scaring the shit out of myself and my kids but I'm terrible at remembering to record when they bring their drama plus they're sorry sneaky so I end up missing out on capturing any of the footage and audio local PD says I need to present to get an RO so they can leave us in peace and be forced to go about their meth and alcohol fueled rampages elsewhere.) They're a tricky lot and basically lifetime criminals in and out of prison so they know how to be sneaky and avoid responsibility for essentially anything. But in the meantime they're taking more and more dangerous steps (inviting horror of guys over to intimidate) while terrorizing my family and as a single dad, my only option is to hold back because even though beating their asses would be justified I just don't think that my kids deserve to see me in jail even if it's only for booking after defending us justifiably. SUMMARY: Need to set up an old phone near front door entrance (sorry guys, can't afford a Ring or Indoor CCTV after losing job due to covid so I need a ghetto, at least nearly free way to be able to capture them without alerting them so I can FINALLY end the trauma my kids (and I) are being put through. SO MUCH GRATITUDE heading your way if you can help me figure this out. Love to you all and your families. Genuinely hope NONE of you ever have to go through anything like this. | Controlling Moto G6 with a dead screen Posted: 09 Jan 2021 03:34 PM PST Hi all, after a short trip down the toilet, the screen on my Moto G6 is dead. It vibrates when I lock/unlock it with either the firgerprint sensor or the pattern lock. It also reacts when I connect my keyboard via usb c adapter, and is sometimes vibrating for what I assume are notifications, so it looks like other than the screen, the phone should be ok. I'm not necessarily looking to repair the phone, but I stupidly forgot to back up anything from my google authenticator app, and that needs doing pretty desperately. Is there a good way to connect this phone to a tv, monitor or PC? I have a USB C multi adapter with 2 usb ports and a HDMI port, but as far as I can tell, the Moto G6 doesn't support HDMI output. I've also found a program called scrcpy (https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy) that apprently allows me to control my phone using my PC via usb, but it requires me to set my phone to USB debugging mode, which is tricky without seeing anything. Is it possible to set my phone to USB debugging mode with only keyboard inputs? Or is there simply a better/easier way to solve this problem? Thanks a lot! | Quick Security-related question Posted: 09 Jan 2021 03:20 PM PST Hello there! Recently bought a Samsung A21 and since it was a new phone, I decided to do some light degoogling on it. I wanted to replace Chrome with Brave Browser, change appstores, etc. And for a while it seemed alright, but I made one screw-up. I installed Aptioide (I know, I know). When looking at alternate web stores, they kept saying it was a safe alternative if you "stick to the trusted apps," but after seeing some bad reviews for apps like Discord which I downloaded but never installed, I promptly noped the F out and did a factory reset on my phone. I never signed onto anything aside from my home wi-fi, and the only account I've accessed is Samsung app store after the exterminatus. I downloaded Avast, Bitdefender and AVG and no malware was found. Is it safe for me to log into more reputable app stores like Amazon now? Can I put my banking apps and Steam on it? Or are there additional measures I need to take in order to stay secure? Normally I'm extremely cautious about these things, but degoogling is new territory for me. No I did not root my phone, and I did not sign into anything serious when I downloaded those apps. and will not until I feel it's 100% safe to do so. | Undetectable Adware on Chome app Posted: 09 Jan 2021 12:22 PM PST I have a Galaxy A51 5G and every time I open Google Chrome, random tabs full of ads are open. I've even had 22 tabs of ads open when I start the chrome app and I don't where they're coming from.
