College Student Looking for Computer for minor gaming +editing ($1000 budget)

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 11:46 PM PST

    Hey all,

I was looking for a laptop about 8 or 9 months ago to replace the laptop I got 5 years ago with the suggestions of this sub. Unfortunately, that was during the time when the pandemic was starting to impact the world in the major way, and a lot of the options were sold out or the prices were jacked up. I've heard that new laptops + chips or whatever have come out recently, so I'm looking around again. Thanks for any help

    The Form

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Total budget is $1000, can go a little over if necessary, and under is always welcome
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      I'd like new if possible
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I care the most about battery life as a college student, as well as performance for the games that I play. Don't have strong opinions about other factors.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Weight is pretty important, I'll be carrying this around with me places, so being light would be great
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      13"-15" is preferred
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I have Camtasia 9 on this computer for video editing, and I do some gaming as well (Don't think they are too graphic intense to my knowledge)
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I'd like for it to be able to run League, Overwatch, and Risk of Rain 2 if possible (I don't know how intensive RoR 2 is, but it is lower priority than the other two, it is a game I play when I have access to my home desktop.)
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Because of Zoom university, I'd like for the computer to have a useable webcam. I also have a secondary hard drive that I'd like to use with the computer
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Gaming Computer for a Stay-at-Home Mom $2000 US

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 11:13 AM PST

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      Max $2000 USD
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes- but since I'm expecting a lot of wear and tear, it'd have to be able to put up with that
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
      1) Build Quality (has to withstand the kids) 2) Performance (kids are enough of a stress factor without adding freezing mid-game) 3) Battery life (just need it to outlast the 2-year old) 4) Form Factor (not terribly important)
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
As long as it's still one-handable by someone who can one-hand a toddler, it'll be fine
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      n/a
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Main Requirement: Guild Wars 2. Also will likely run Ark and games with similar requirements.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
See above- looking for a 30-40 FPS experience.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
needs amazing durability from falling/stepping, spill resistance- basically the more idiot proof the better so it will hopefully live to see the kids learn how to treat a computer. Probably going to use a Bluetooth headset/mouse
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I'm looking for a good balance between durability and performance. My own research found the Asus Chromebook, but it can't run Guild Wars 2, which left me at a dead end.

    New Laptop

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:50 AM PST

    Hi All,

I need a new laptop. It'll be used for teaching yoga on line, so needs a good webcam, and lots of multi tasking and browsing, as I'm still studying to becomea qualified yoga teacher. I use Word a lot. I also use the internet a lot. I don't game.

My existing is an old HP which I got second hand 3 years agao. It's been great but the camera is terrible and its very very slow to boot up and get going.

I would like something fast and responsive, seperate numerical key board, touch screen if poss, good port array, including HDMI if poss. Looks don't matter but a battery that last more than a couple of hours would be good. Budget is up to £1000.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

    Many thanks.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    U.K. (£) around £400 would be nice

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      Yes.

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I don't want lags and it to overheat easily, battery life is also important

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    I don't want tiny but N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I do enjoy playing Sims which can cause overheating in previous laptops

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Just Sims and I would say the basic/recommended FPS

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I enjoyed the touch screen on my previous laptop, a good keyboard would be nice and reliable is important.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

My previous laptop was a Dell Inspiron 1300 with a touchscreen. I had it through university and I use it mainly for general browsing, streaming and some gaming. I may need a new board and screen for it so buying a new laptop may be a better investment.

13"/UK/£650 - Compact laptop for coding/travel for work

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:17 AM PST

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

      ~£650, UK

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build quality, battery life, performance, form factor

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Important, I anticipate carrying it around a lot and using while travelling (by train)

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      13-14"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

No, primary use will be coding. File storage and any heavy computation will be done on another computer over SSH.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

      N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

      Good keyboard is important.

Something reliably built would be helpful since it will be moved around a lot.

HDMI/other port for the option of an external display would be useful

Ethernet port useful but not essential

Bulit in bluetooth (for headphones) would be nice so I don't have to get a dongle.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I'm looking for something relatively small and light to make travel easy, but that also has a good keyboard and good enough battery/performance so that they don't get in the way.

I don't intend on using Windows, so something that ships with no OS would be fine.

      Thank you!

Lenovo Yoga 6 vs Lenovo Flex 5 vs HP Envy x360

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:16 AM PST

Hello again, got some good advise last time so I'm back with a shorter list. I'm looking to buy a new 2-in-1 laptop and I'm currently looking at these three options, but I'm not really sure which to go with.

    Lenovo Yoga 6 13.3"

AMD Ryzen 5 Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-6-13-2-in-1-13-3-touch-screen-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-8gb-memory-256gb-ssd-abyss-blue-fabric-cover/6427161.p?skuId=6427161

    Lenovo Flex 5 14"

AMD Ryzen 5 Processor, 8 GB RAM, 256GB SSD

    https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-flex-series/IdeaPad-Flex-5-14ARE-05/p/88IPF501453?cid=us:display:8f4ylh&dclid=CIyeje7Ftu4CFRWZAQodWjAJQA

    HP Envy x360 15.6"

AMD Ryzen 5 Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-envy-x360-2-in-1-15-6-touch-screen-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-8gb-memory-256gb-ssd-nightfall-black/6403441.p?skuId=6403441

As you can see, the laptops share many similarities. The price varies, but the big components are the same, so it makes it harder for me to pick. I like the look of the HP the best, but I prefer the 14 inch size, but the price of the Yoga is the best. Does anyone have an opinion on these computers?

Laptop for AI and Machine Learning development

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:52 AM PST

    Hello folks,

I am looking for a Laptop which I would use for:

    - Development (AI and ML)- BI Software (Microsoft Power Bi)

Right now I am using a Laptop with:

    - i7 6700hq- gtx 960m- 16gb ddr4

These are the options I found in my price range:

    LENOVO Legion 5i (17 inch)- i5-10300H- gtx 1650ti- 16gb ddr4- 999 Euro
    Lenovo Legion 5i 17 | 17 inch Gaming Laptop | Lenovo US

    ACER Aspire 5 (17 inch or 15 inch)- i7-1165G7- MX350- 16gb ddr4- 999 Euro
    Aspire 5 A517-52G - Technische Daten | Notebooks | Acer Deutschland

    ASUS Zenbook 14 (14 inch)- Ryzen 7 4700U- MX350- 16gb ddr4- 1099 Euro
    ZenBook 14 UM433 (4000 series Ryzen)|Laptops Für zu Hause|ASUS Deutschland

I tend to the Lenovo one, but its a pretty bulky gaming laptop and I dont want it to look rediciulous in business meetings. The lenovo also has a pretty nice gpu which I could use for Machine Learning but right now I am just using cpu performance for my stuff. It also has the highest tdp and base clock which would be good for long ML learning operations I guess

Edit: And I think the lenovo has the best cooling solution, so the other cpu´s may be faster but will be throttled down way harder than the lenovo one

Edit: So its basically the question:

slower CPU with higher base clock but with active cooling vs stronger cpus with passive cooling.

I have no clue what would be better

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

    A quiet laptop - UK - Roughly £2000

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 10:07 PM PST

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

£2000, preferably lower but willing to go this high for something great

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Refurbs but not used

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance is priority number 1. Looking for 16gb of ram, at least six cores. I know nothing about graphics cards but I need one that is good for gaming. Battery life is important (ideally at least 8 hrs). 2-in-1 would be great but I don't think I could get one with all my other requirements, so its not essential.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Weight doesn't matter, it needs to be reasonably thin though.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    13-15.6"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I don't know specific programs because I've never been able to use them, but I'd like as much software to be available for me as possible. Right now I use Zoom and OBS Studio for recording uni lectures and it heats my laptop up a lot. At the bare minimum I'd like to be able to do this without the fan going crazy. I've described my requirements for gaming below.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

I want to be able to play most PS4 generation games (I've only ever used consoles so I have no idea how to describe this in PC terms). The bare minimum would be Skyrim and Minecraft, again without the fan going crazy.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Touch screen would be nice but not essential. Reliable build quality is the only thing here I would say is important for me. Screen resolution of QHD at least.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Essentially my main priority is to have a quiet, powerful laptop. My current laptop (HP Pavilion x360)is decent but Skyrim runs at about 8fps (I think thats because its an Intel graphics card? Idk) and the fan comes on at full blast for as little as having a few too many Chrome tabs open. Laptop fan noise is my pet peeve, I don't know why. I'm also not sure how to know if a laptop will run quietly or not. I'm assuming if its more powerful it won't heat up as much, hence the requirement of 16gb ram and 6 cores. Please let me know if I'm totally wrong on this, I'm a laptop noob.

Affordable laptop for light gaming and work.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 07:11 PM PST

I really appreciate this sub, seems like it will be a huge help.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

      $700 CAD purchasing in Canada.

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

I would prefer to buy new, but if the price is right...

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

4 hour battery life is sufficient. I'd like a nice display as I like to watch movies as well as game. Performance is the main key, the games I plan on playing are AOE 2 Definitive edition & Minecraft.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important. Will mostly be using it on my desk and on my couch.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      Not below 15.6"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Mainly gaming. AOE2 DE, Minecraft. I also use Excel and Word for work a fair bit.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Games mentioned above. Minimum 60fps, on high settings

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Reliable build quality would be great, I hope to get an above average life cycle. I plan on using an external mouse, nothing else required. I do use my webcam for work meetings so a decent webcam would be a bonus * Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I was considering the Acer Nitro 5 ($850 CDN on sale for a few days) and almost pulled the trigger on it, but I thought it might be overkill. I was hoping I could get a good performance on Minecraft and AOE with a laptop that's cheaper. If the budget above ($700) is not enough, or if you strongly recommend buying the Nitro 5 with the current deal offering, I will go ahead and buy it or extend my budget for other laptop recommendations.

    3200MYR laptop needed

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:48 AM PST

I don't think many people will be responding as my currency is not popular. So if someone got suggestion that available in your country with normal price under my budget, it might be worth checking. So I don't mind you to drop them here as well :)

    Thanks!

First of all, I will be dual booting. Ubuntu will be my main OS, and Windows second. Second, I basically want to use the laptop for learning. Since I am not a professional for the stuff I will be doing, there is no need to get something "serious". Basically I want to use this laptop to play with programming and IT stuff.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

~3200 MYR. This would be around $800.

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Something that last long, reasonable battery life. Performance should be fine for my usage.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I don't care about the design or weight

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

The bigger the better. At least something that feels comfortable to work with 2 windows side by side.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Casually, yes. I do some simple editing for video like syncing audio, cutting parts. Photoshop is also used for simple editing and learning.

    - Android Studio - VSCode - Android emulators - Virtualbox and alternatives

I don't game. But having some to be able to run would be cool.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    Yep

    - Preferably Intel. Intel work nicer with Android and VM stuff. - Comfortable keyboard for typing a lot - Long lasting build because I am not rich - I would be using mouse most of the time - I would be dual-booting, so reasonable disk is required. 512GB might be just enough. - SSD - Able to compile programs reasonably fast. Linux is not like Windows, so I might have some things needed to be compiled.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I think I have explained enough.

Thanks for any answer and help!

Low as possible, but $600-1000 USD if really worth it.

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

    2 in 1: 8/10.

    Build quality: 7/10

    Performance: 9/10

    Battery Life: 8.5/10

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    5/10

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    14 but willing to change

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Basic shit, maybe League of Legends once in a while

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Light gaming. Pref even a low-end nVidia GPU but if not worth it that's totally fine

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Medical school so maybe a 2-in-1 but not sure if it's 100% necessary. Leaning towards 2-in-1

There is a MicroCenter near me if that helps

Help me choose a school laptop

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:06 AM PST

Alright so my old Chromebook is not cutting it anymore and I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm in mechanical engineering which means programming, light simulations and a lot of zoom lectures.

I've found two laptops that I'm interested in, the websites are in swedish since I'm ordering from a swedish store. But I'll summarize the pros and cons for each.

    https://www.komplett.se/product/1164914/dator-surfplatta/datorer-barbara-laptop/ultraportabel/hp-14s-fq0014no-14-fhd#

HP 14 inch, Ryzen 3 4300U, 8 gb ram 41 Wh battery 512 gb ssd, 1.4 kg. This one is 5500 sek or about 550 $.

    https://www.elgiganten.se/product/datorer-tillbehor/barbar-dator/windows-laptops/177238/acer-swift-3-14-barbar-dator-silver#

    Acer 3 swift, 14 inch, ryzen 3 4300u, 8 gb ram, 48 Wh battery, 256 gb ssd, 1.2 kg. This one is 7000 sek or 700 $.

I'm having trouble choosing, my head says HP but my gut feeling says Acer. But there are too many upsides with the HP not to choose it? What do you think?

    • No specific requirements

    • I am not computer savvy (my last laptop was given to me for school so I don't know any specific specs or anything) and don't know where to start with buying a new one. I'd like to have something portable that can also handle what I'd like to use it for, but if I have to I can settle for non-portable.

My friend lives in Germany and he would like to buy the pc from the local mediamarkt there. I recommended him that he should go AMD (because apparently AMD is very good) so preferably AMD processor unless the Intel one is better for the wallet. GPU is not that important, but if its included in the laptop then thats good.

    Thanks for the help,
    AFD

    • 8gb ram minimum
    • 256Gb SSD minimum (500+ preferred)
    • Backlit keyboard

Laptop for Architecture Student - 2000USD, Portable and Fast

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 10:18 PM PST

I'm looking for a laptop that can run Autodesk's Revit CAD as a primary use case. I will also be using the laptop for rendering(Enscape or Luminary mostly) and some Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I do have a PC, which I will be using for large projects and renders, but I want something that I can take to classes and still be able to do my work with a laptop. I'm looking around the 2000USD range. If it's cheaper, that's even better.

I prefer performance to price first(CPU, GPU), then Display, then Storage, then I/O, then portabiliy and size.

CPU: Revit mostly uses fast single core performance. The big thing is moving the CAD file in 3D View with the CPU doing most of the work for quick renders. High quality rendering and other creative work might use multithreading and all cores(?). The CPUS I've been looking at have been the i7 10750H and in 10875H. Are the new 11th Gen Intel CPU different from the 10th Gen? Is AMD the better buy in laptops now?

RAM: Revit uses fast RAM, and prefers a larger amount of it as well. I'm fine with putting in RAM or doing anything with my laptop to improve it, as long as it isn't unreasonable pricewise.

GPU: I'd like to get at least a 1650Ti or better, preferably a 2060 or better. I'll be doing some gaming on the laptop. I know that Quattros are better for CAD, but they usually cost far too much.

Storage: 1TB or so is what I'm aiming for. I know some laptops have space for a second M.2 slot. Is this a feature that people take advantage of?

Display: The main thing I'm looking for is and overall good display. I prefer 1440p, as a nice balance of more pixels without 4K's battery drain. A touchscreen would be great for doing my creative work, but not a necessity if price requires it. 60Hz is fine, but I'd put that closer to the bottom of my list. I don't need crazy color range, but nothing terrible.

I/O: I like to have at least 1 USB-C. Is Thunderbolt a must have for file transfers and hooking up displays? I would rather more I/O than less. I want at least 1 USB A, but its not a deal breaker.

Size: 15-17 inch is preferred. Nothing above about 1.1 inches or 5.75 pounds.

I'm looking at the Asus ConceptD Ezel, Dell XPS, and MSI Creator currently. If you have better picks, please tell me. Thanks!

    Good Afternoon!

$500-800 CAD, Canada. Cheaper is better, but willing to invest in the right machine (could go higher than $800 but would have to justify it to myself)

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Yes

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Will be taking to school so a decent battery life is nice, performance is important too.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    Not very

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

14 inch +. Will be hooking up to monitor when home

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Web browsing, microsoft word, Dota, Wow, Total war games. May be interested in playing some other FPS's

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Nothing too new for games, but good FPS is nice

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    N/A

    Thank you!

Laptop for Work, USA <500$ would be awesome!

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 04:02 PM PST

    Hi y'all,

Thank you all so much for all the advice over the years. It is now time for me to get myself a work laptop, I do research, mostly just excel and the basic microsoft programs, limited amounts of programming with R (is it really programming?), not too hardcore needed as I have a home computer for heavy processes and stuff. I would love something that will last a while, prefer a decent screen and keyboard for typing and work, watching the occasionally show at night in bed.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
<500$ USD would be awesome, but I know how these things are!
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
No, I need this thing to last forever starting now :D
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Build quality as in lifespan, I need to not worry about the laptop breaking ever, especially the actual case like my last one :(
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
I would love to be one of those super cool sleek work dudes who pulls out a nanobook and types on thin air, but I am asking for a cheap AF nokia level laptop, so yeah.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
I like 15", as I love the number pad, but again, I am flexible!
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I mainly do my work in excel, it sounds stupid but I program in excel because I am too stupid to learn it in anything else and I physically need my data represented at all times, including text, because I am a small baby who has not learnt object permanence. My excel files can get super big, but I think excel sucks for that so the computer cant really be the limit on that end.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Crysis at 60FPS (damn it I am old)
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I want my work to survive the coming zombie pandemic and the nuclear winter after, I keep it all backed up to the cloud, but I know its only a matter of time until "the cloud" launches assassin robots to kill us all.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I truly appreciate you kind computer-gurus!
