Are any of these good choices for light gaming? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:11 PM PST I'm looking for a new laptop on a pretty tight budget. Requirements for the laptop are: run minecraft decently (right now i get around 100 fps). Possibly run GTA V but that's not as important, whereas minecraft is a must. And just generally not be incredibly slow. The laptop i currently have is an Asus X411UA with intel core i5-8250U, but i need a new one because its broken. My current laptop is pretty good but i would like something slightly better/faster. I don't really know what to look for in laptops so here are 2 that i found, are any of these good for what i want? If not, do you have any recommendations? (my budget is £300-£400, possibly up to £500) [link] [comments] |
What notebook should I buy? (for big data analysis with micro data) Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:08 AM PST I have to buy a new PC which I will use mainly for work and therefore to do data analysis with Matlab, STATA and R. Budget less than 1.500 euro and would like to have a configuration with i7/AMD Ryzen + 16gb ram. What do you recommend? I've seen the following models, but open for new suggestions as well: -ThinkPad T14 (Intel or AMD) around 1.450 euro -Thinkpad t490 (Intel) around 1.550 euro -LENOVO Thinkpad E15 around 1.350 euro -HUAWEI Matebook X Pro around 1.550 euro -MSI GF63 around 1.250 euro -ASUS ZENBOOK around 1.360 euro The ideal notebook should be 15 inches, but since they cost more and I almost always use an external screen, 14 inches is just fine. Laptop for DualBoot and Music Making (on windows) Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:24 AM PST EDIT: SEE COMMENTS (the form is there) Hi guysI am looking for a laptop since I am going to Uni on the nest school year and I cant take my desktop hahahaI need at least an I7 or equivalent, 16 GB of ram and at least 512GB of SSD (could be 256 if the laptop also has an HDD)Generally I use windows for music producing (Maschine MK3), I also use Linux as my main OS, where I code (python (data science and ML), some C++ and occasionally JavaScript),I don't usually game (except for chess). The other programs I use are stuff like Office software(WPS or LIbre), Gimp, Inkscape, amd a browser. My budget is around 1500 euros, but it is possible to extend to 2000Generally, I don't like traditional Gaming Laptops because of the LED's and their colors.THX [link] [comments] |
Gaming laptop that replaces my desktop Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:08 AM PST Hey there, thanks for taking the time to read this. I generally think of switching because I tend to go abroad quite alot for my work. I have quite a decent desktop it's a bit old (4y) 1500 euro budget but it runs most games since I got a bad screen. But nonetheless I need something mobile yet powerful enough to put at home when I'm not away. I tried scouring the www but I've got no idea honestly. Should I wait for next gen cards? Is a change a coming? I got a budget of 2000 euro or more if its worth it.. I'd like a 17 inch screen aswell. I don't like rgb lights and stuff but I realise this is the only way sometimes :) I'm from Belgium if that helps Oh and happy new year! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Thinkpad x1 carbon gen 7 vs gen 8 (specific case) Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:31 PM PST Hi folks. I am debating between a x1 carbon gen 7 and a gen 8. Their information is as follows: Gen 7: UHD screen; ~1610 CAD; i7-8665U Gen 8: FHD screen; ~1330 CAD; i5-10210U (The rest of their specs are essentially the same.) The gen 8 laptop is current out of stock. I would like to know which one you recommend if I am a fan of high resolution screens. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a mid range Gaming / home use laptop Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:52 AM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Somewhere around £1000 but might go higher, UK
As long as they can be bought with installments, then yes
I'd want something that will last a long time (NOT battery wise)
not very,
15' but its ok if it has to be smaller
Im going to be doing Music mixing, a small bit of photoshop and quite a lot of gaming
The highest game im hoping to ever run is No man's Sky, and at low graphics. Id prefer a good FPS
1tb drive and 8 - 16 gb of RAM, and preferably good input Ports. Also, this might be a bit much but id prefer if it Had a numpad
i dont really need RTX, a GTX is fine [link] [comments] |

15inch, Australia, roughly 4000 AUD Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:27 PM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Q: Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: A: 4000 AUD give or take Q: Are you open to refurbs/used? A: Yes Q: How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? A: Ultrabook, performance, battery life and build quality are all important to me Q: How important is weight and thinness to you? A: No super bothered but not interested in rugged laptops Q: Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. A: 15 inch preferred, no smaller Q: Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. A: yes to CAD, PLC software etc. Not exactly sure what programs ill end up running as i'm heading off on a new career direction but from what i've read 16gb ram minimum (so id prefer to have 32gb) and a SSD HD Q: If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? A: N/A Q: Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A: Keyboard, reliable build quality Q: Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. A: One of the most important things to me is the keyboard. i am currently using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) and i love the keyboard layout and feel. i do not want a keyboard with a num pad included. If it weren't for all the software i expect to run being windows based i would buy another macbook because this one has lasted me 7 years now without trouble. [link] [comments] |

Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications for the money. Good battery life would be nice but is not essential. How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight and thinness are not important to me. But I'd rather it be thick and powerful, if I had to make the tradeoff. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A I'll generally be hooking it up to two other large monitors. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Daily Work Use (Mostly Office 365 / NetDocs) - Budget No Concern Posted: 01 Jan 2021 07:53 PM PST I haven't bought a new laptop since 2013 (MacBook Air). Heading into the new year and new remote work environment (including Court hearings), I should probably invest in something decent. As the title says, I mostly use applications such as Word for document formatting and Outlook for email, all within the Office 365 environment. There are also a few work specific applications, like NetDocs, I will use for document management and accessing files. Here's the helpful form: LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

need a replacement gaming laptop that i can also use for school Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:29 PM PST My current laptop is falling apart (literally and metaphorically) and it's starting to struggle with a lot of even common tasks. I figure it's time to upgrade, as my 970m is becoming more and more obsolete. I need a numpad and a webcam at the top of the screen. I would very much like a 2070/2060 but can go lower if a laptop has other things. I'd like good battery life as I plan on bringing this to classes. Weight isn't too important. I've never experienced a smooth screen at 144hz or 240hz so that'd be nice. Build quality should be really good. I live in the US and my budget is up to $1500. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:10 PM PST Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
I live in Canada and dont want to go over 3k CAD
-no
-I am a student looking for good functionality and battery life for everyday purposes, but also looking to be able to run low level games.
Fairly important. Must be decently transportable
N/A
The main game that I want to run is Rocket League
-yes rocket league These are the minimum requirements: OS: Windows 7 (64 bit) or Newer (64 bit) Windows OS Processor: 2.5 GHz Dual-core Memory: 4 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 760, AMD Radeon R7 270X, or better DirectX: Version 11 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 20 GB available space
-wouldn't say so, no
Essentially looking for a great quality laptop that isnt dedicated solely to gaming as I need it to have good battery life and performance for university, but I wanna run low level games. (Hoping this is actually a possibility). Price is not the biggest concern here Thanks in advance for the help! [link] [comments] |

Laptop for daily use, with focus on drawing/ 3d modeling Posted: 01 Jan 2021 04:34 PM PST
I have 1000K mmk (so thats 750 usd. I'm in Myanmar)
no?
Not important. No plans to take it out of the house. I don't know how thinness/ lightness translates to sturdiness but I would prefer it if it was durable than light.
I want to run drawing programs (Photoshop/Clip studio paint), do light weight video editing, and store a heck ton of anki decks. Also run Blender. Nothing too intensive like animating tho. Just modeling and sculpting. Sooo has to be windows.
Nothing heavy- maybe visual novels for learning a language
A good typing experience would be nice. No touch screen or detachable stuff or anything.
I'm not in the US/ UK/ India like other asks but I could really use suggestions so if you could point me to something that'd meet my needs I'd be grateful [link] [comments] |
search for everyday laptop, Netherlands,€550 max Posted: 01 Jan 2021 04:33 PM PST
€550 is the max
its very important that ill be able to run Adobe programs (like Photoshop and Indesign which i use almost everyday) since i am an art student and do alot if illustration work. the battery life isn't that much of a priority but i'd be great if i didn't have to plug it in every 3 hours. the most important thing for me is the screen quality and being able to run programs smoothly.
i don't care about either of those, if anything i like chunkier laptops more
13 inch or above is preferred, nothing under that
I play League a couple times a week mostly use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, XD sometimes After effects and Premiere as well as the standard Office 365 programs like Teams, Word, Powerpoint etc.
I only really play League of Legends but as long as it just runs okay i don't have an issue with it it's not a priority
I'd prefer a backlit keyboard if that is possible but for the rest i only need Usb-a inputs, a headphone jack and i'm good.
For me as i've mentioned before it's really important to me that the colors on the screen are as accurate as i can get, seeing that i do illustration work, and that i can run maybe a couple programs at the same time without a laptop almost exploding in my face. thank u in advance!
