Amazon shopping app used 5 GB of data less than a day Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:11 PM PST Pretty much what the title says. I woke up with 25% data remaining and 3 days left. A few hours later got a notification all of my data was used. Looked at usage and amazon shopping had used over 5 GB -- today. I've never even opened it today. Any ideas what could have happened, and if there's anything to do about this? [link] [comments] |
Random 1kb download in messenger Posted: 25 Jan 2021 04:53 PM PST I got a text from my sister on the base messenger app. When i looked it said it was a 1kb download and it would expire in a day. When i downloaded it it immediately disappeared. I can find any evidence of it being downloaded nor can i find any info on what it could've been. Was it just a just a minor mishap or did i download a virus of some sort? [link] [comments] |

What's the expected Wi-Fi range when the antenna is unplugged? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 09:31 PM PST There's a good chance the technical terms will be all wrong, I'll try to be as descriptive as possible. I'm trying to make my Android console offline. Impulse control issues, endless browsing before sleep, you know the drill; when I play offline or read books/comics I do fall asleep fast so an offline Android console would be golden. When I remove the back of the shell, I can see one of these "cup" plugs typical of Wi-Fi chips, like in this picture: https://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Asus-K53U-laptop/disassemble-asus-k53u-laptop-24.jpg It's plugged to a connector with the label "Wi-Fi" printed on the board, and it's on the edge of the motherboard so I guess it's intended as the antenna. That's as far as I'm comfortable dissassembling/tinkering, so the question is: if I unplug and cut off this cable, will it make the Wi-Fi non-functional? Or will it still work but in a much reduced capacity? Will I need additional precautions with the loose cable so it doesn't make contact with whatever? Can I forcefully pull it maybe? Or do I need to bite the bullet, dissassembly further, and cut off as much as possible for safety? My bed is a few meters away from my modem. If the signal is completely off that's the ideal scenario, but if it's very weak, short-ranged (like needing to hold the console right next to the modem) or unstable that's still sort of a win to me. I realize that's a very unusual question so thank you in advance for any help you can provide. [link] [comments] |
Emojis on Android 6.0.1 make me wanna cry Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:51 PM PST So, I have a Cat s60. An older brick of a phone that I can't kill. Why? Because I took my blackberry with me in an underground river, drowned myself (literally) and then my phone. This thing is amazing, it's slow, but I'm pretty sure I can use it as a hammer in an underwater mine. Anyways, I'm talking to people, mostly issues with one girl I have to deal with this. She likes emojis. Half of them I can't see the damn thing. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Like those. Idk what they are. I copy paste them. How can I see them? You know how hard it is to gage how someone reacts to something and all you see is six boxes and a monkey. It's running Android 6.0.1. there are no updates. I tried downloading emoji keyboards. Aside from trying to bill me for free apps and steal my data, nothin. I am at my wit's end. How can I see this 🥰🥰🥰🥰. [link] [comments] |
Headphone controls open wrong music app... small but annoying problem Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:43 PM PST Samsung A21 running Android 10..... What kind of backup is in my system partition? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 04:40 PM PST I just installed lineageOS 15.1 on my Nexus 7 2012 and now there is only 85MBs left on my system partition and Open GApps won't install, because there isn' enough space left. I already tried "pico", which is 111MBs. The MindTheGapps zip was above 100MBs but that worked, so what is that 554MB backup on my system partition? [link] [comments] |

Volume levels change according to app? Pixel 3 Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:03 PM PST This frustrates me because I feel like it breaks my user experience. Some nights I watch netflix or watch other videos with volume set to mute with no headphones, as I'm fine watching with closed captions. Then I go to bed not having increased the volume. The next night, if I'm not careful, when I open netflix again, I'm surprised when I play a video and find that it is far from mute. So the next night, I decide that I'll check the volume. On the home screen, I turn the volume down. I open netflix and check the volume. Audio is not muted. Why not? You're sure to ask: are you sure you didn't increase the volume throughout the day? Fair question, and the answer is no. Moreover, there's another app that should never have any volume (that is, there's no reason I'll ever want audio from this app), yet I've seen the volume above zero. Meanwhile, when I press the volume button and then tap the button to go to settings, there's just one media entry, and it's set to silent. If there is an app on this phone that is acting on my volume, I'm unaware of it. I have no idea what next to check. [link] [comments] |

Android Messenger save all photos Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:54 PM PST Is there an option to save all photos automatically sent to you by another person in Facebooks messenger app? Just had to save 300 photos individually and it was very tedious. When I go to Settings, Photos & Media, it only has save on capture, something about links and then Emoji. Bootloop on Xiaomi phone after trying to flash new update of custom ROM. Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:09 PM PST
I received a notification about a new OS update, followed instructions, the new zip file got directly downloaded to SD card, rebooted into recovery, flashed the zip file. When rebooting back to system, phone got locked in a bootloop. Essentially what happens is that the Mi logo is displayed for a few seconds before disappearing, then repeat. For some reason I didn't wipe anything before the first flash attempt. When that obviously didn't work, I tried wiping random things under "advanced wipe", which may or may not have been the greatest idea. TWRP is still fully accessible. There is no need to retain the local data. Feel free to ask me for additional details you might need. [link] [comments] |

How to COMPLETELY wipe RCA Tablet? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:17 PM PST I was given a RCA Viking Pro tablet with a keyboard from work. There was an account on there that my boss didn't know. So naturally, I decided that I need to factory reset the tablet. I was able to factory reset it, but now I'm trying to set it up, and it says I need to log in using the old account through the G-Suite login. My boss doesn't remember who gave it to him, and I didn't look at the account prior to wiping. Is there a way to completely remove that block? Restore it to factory conditions without needing the previous email and password? PS: I assume that its the Viking Pro because that's what it says when it booted up for the first time. However, when looking up "Viking pro chargers", a micro USB type charger never came up. [link] [comments] |
Is this following permission safe? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:15 PM PST I was loading a apk to Hybrid-Analysis.com and it said that the permission android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED is a malicious indicator. Metadefender and Virustotal say that my apk file is safe. and i downloaded it from the official website. Maybe I am a bit paranoid. Idk but please answer my question. TIA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:06 PM PST The clock app has a bedtime setting now and I can use my alarms, YouTube music or this Calm app. I don't get it, the app isn't even completely free, why can't I just choose rain sounds of white noise or waves like I can with Google assistant? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:34 PM PST I recently bought a Sony Xperia XZ2, my previous phone was a A11, SmartSwitch will not apply due to the Xperia. Instead the XZ2 Xperia Transfer Mobile. The A11 is able to download that app, and turn on, scan via Wi-fi, etc... But, they are unable to find each other. The XZ2 is updated to version 10 for Android. I have also tried Xperia Transfer version 2, same problem as the first. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:19 PM PST I guess Google by default assumes I want to sync EVERYTHING when adding new account and I have to manually uncheck all the things I do not want to sync after the fact which in my mind is MINDBLOWING IGNORANCE and lack of respect for one's control of their personal data. In any case, I am now stuck with hundreds of emails in that one account in Gmail even though the sync is off. I have not been able to find a way how to delete emails for that account only while keeping several other account I am actually syncing. Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
I can't create a new Google account with my new phone number Posted: 25 Jan 2021 04:29 PM PST I'm trying to sign up for a Google account and it's asking for my phone number to prevent robots. I enter my old mobile phone number and it says the number was used too many times which is probably true as I have several accounts over the years but nothing excessive. I also got a brand new SIM from Three with a number that I've never used for any Google service before and it says "this number cannot be used for verification". I bought the phone off Amazon UK and it was sold by Amazon NOT a third party and my SIM card was obtained for free directly from Three. Bizarre. Why can't a brand new phone number that's never been used to register for a Google account before not be used to sign up for an account? The phone number can accept and receive calls so I don't know why the number can't be accepted. Any ideas? I can't use apps or anything requiring a Google account due to this problem. Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:59 PM PST Hi guys. My daughter's Samsung Galaxy A20 is experiencing a weird and frustrating problem. The device is connected to our home wife and it has mobile data available, but despite that it can't seem to properly connect to the internet. Emails cannot be sent from it and just get stuck in the outbox, youtube doesn't work (the app can be opened, but it doesn't load any videos) and the most weird of all; search results do show up in browsers, but when you click on any result the webpage won't load and it shows the following error: *This site can't be reached X's server IP address could not be found. DNS_Probe_finished_bad_config*
So basically, if I google something like "Dodecanese Wikipedia", the search results will show up, but when I click on the link to the Wikipedia article, the webpage cannot load and I get that DNS error. Here are a composite image to show what I mean: https://ibb.co/gTS9cSb Does anyone know what causes this? All the other phones in my household work fine, so there is nothing wrong with the wifi. Question about unlocked phone. Can't activate with my carrier until a year of usage? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 01:41 PM PST (Sorry if this is the wrong sub, I don't know where to put it; let me know of a better sub for this question). So I bought an unlocked phone from Amazon, tried using my old sim card with it, didn't work. Bought new sim card from Boost Mobile (my carrier), didn't work. Well, eventually I found out the unlocked phone was actually still locked to Sprint. I was told by Boost Mobile and Samsung (the brand of the phone) to contact Sprint. Well I just got back from a T Mobile store and they told me that in order to activate the phone with a new carrier that there is a waiting period. They said with t mobile it would take 4 months until I could use it, but they said since I have Boost it will take all the way until a year before I can use it as an actual phone. The people at Boost said that online sellers don't tell you this because they don't want to lose a sale. But everywhere on the internet says you just need a sim card and an unlocked phone and you're good. Was I duped? I feel so upset right now that no one told me this... [link] [comments] |
Notification on Locked Phone > Immediately Unlocks Device and Opens App Posted: 25 Jan 2021 01:29 PM PST I just updated my Pixel 3a to Android 11 maybe a week ago, and since then I've noticed some unusual behavior. I have my phone locked, sitting on my desk while I work. I received a notification from YouTube about a new video from a channel to which I'm subscribed, but instead of just showing the notification, my phone unlocked itself, opened the app, and started playing the video by itself. The same thing happened when I got an email or a text message. I'm not on my phone, not even touching it, and it just unlocks by itself, opens the respective app, and immediately displays the message / email I just got. This doesn't seem to happen every time, but it's often enough that it's noticeable. I thought it was just a weird fluke after upgrading, but since then I've rebooted my device a few times, and it still happens. I thought it may have been an issue where 'the first time a notification comes through for [x] YT channel' or 'the first text message from this one contact' it would open automatically and then revert to its normal state, but so far it's happened multiple times for the same contact / YT channel. I do have a Pebble watch that is added as a Trusted Device, so I wouldn't have to enter my pattern every time I unlocked my phone. However, I removed it as a trusted device, and this still happened, but instead of going right to the app, it was prompting me for my pattern, as if I had tapped on the notification myself on the locked screen. Has anyone else encountered this issues? I've been looking through Settings and online and I can't find anywhere a setting to disable this, so it seems like a bug? I've tried to capture it on camera, but (obviously) it happens when I'm not expecting it, and whenever I *do* try to test it (test text, etc.), it of course doesn't do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
