    Lock screen bugged!

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:44 PM PST

My lock screen only shows the WiFi icon, the ease of access icon and the power options. There is not users or password section. Windows was starting normally and showing no error codes by the way. This happed out of the blue so I don't really know what I did before that. I only have one user account on it and it is not showing on the side, its gone and the password input is gone too! So my account logo is gone and everything else apart from the WiFi icon, the ease of access icon and the power options. I can't login anymore. So I tried restoring to a restore point but I didn't work and the problem was still there. Then I decided to Reset my Pc (Was using local, not cloud option) and that still didn't work. I even tried safe mode but the problem was still there. I also tried running cmd from the recovery options and using sfc /scannow but it said that it could not do the operation requested. The user account still exists because it asked me for my password when wanting to restore to a restore point. What should I do now?

I cannot get any logs or anything due to the fact that I can't login, so I can't access the files. But I knwo hat I using Windows 20H2.

Can't type to search apps in Win menu anymore?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 06:49 PM PST

Used to be able to hit WIN and just start typing "calc" then hit enter, for example, to bring up the calculator. This is after the latest update. I wouldn't be so upset if I had any idea how to otherwise quickly search for apps within Windows. Anyone know?

Windows forced update system is broken... And that's one reason why I use Linux (now Manjaro)

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 01:52 PM PST

My grandmother had a computer that had a small SSD in it. So small, it couldn't do the update that Windows thought it needed, so yeah. Like there was a message that it needed an update (like force updating), but there was also a message that the system had insufficient space and that she had to free up some space. The problem was that she had hardly any files on her PC and the OS was bigger than the SSD! Talk about that for a second...

I use Manjaro and this is not amongst the top lightest Linux distros but it still runs great on older PCs, just not the very old crappy kind... I have to mention it fits on an 8Gb USB drive and still, it doesn't fill out the drive. It's like 1 GB or something (I don't know for sure).

I am not saying Windows (and also partly Microsoft) is bad but there are a lot of annoying things. Bloatware, auto-update, Office 365's interface is very annoying and inefficient plus the OS needs a decent computer to firstly run any smooth because it is so heavy and takes literally all your disc space away! And security is way better than Windows.

    But:

Windows is currently the best gaming OS if you have a decent computer because it supports the most games and is often the easiest to deal with. I don't game that heavily and most of my favourite games run on Linux anyways or I play mobile because that is just easier on the go. That being said, if you want to know how Linux works just make a bootable disc (which is pretty easy just google) and see yourself.

Here's how (can also be done for a windows bootable backup drive or whatever you want):

Making a bootable disc goes like this: you need an ISO file of your preferred OS and an ISO file writer program. Also, a formatted USB or one you don't mind erasing the data on is needed. Then, load up your ISO file writer program, choose your (inserted!) USB drive plus file and there you go! It will format the USB if not done already... So back up the files if you need them. All you have to do now is to turn off your PC and boot from your USB. This depends on your computer how to do that but it's pretty similar for all computers.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 01:21 PM PST

Windows 7 still remains my favorite release, but for those who do or don't run it, do you or would you use it, 12 years after release?

"The driver selected for this device does not support this version of windows"

    Hi!

When i want to update my driver, it says "the driver selected for this device does not support this version of windows"

Long story short, im on a crappy 2007 laptop since my main broke.

I want to play games on it, but cant because i cant enable Direct3D Acceleration

I searched tutorials and they told me to update my drivers

Howwweverrr. i get a message that says "the driver selected for this device does not support this version of windows:"

    https://preview.redd.it/dykzh3doeda61.png?width=690&format=png&auto=webp&s=b619953b1253ff17193441eab956bb286842af08

How do i fix that, and how do i enable Direct3D Acceleration?

I really want to play atleast some low-end games on it.

    Thanks!

Windows 10 licences for refurbed gaming PC's? How are companies getting away with it?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 10:00 AM PST

There are hundreds of sellers in the UK, registered companies, selling hundreds of thousands of £ worth of refurbished gaming PC's, with fully licenced Windows 10 on them. There is no way they are paying for their licences if you work out their profit margin. And I work in hardware so I know pretty much exactly what their margin is. Many of these have a turnover of over £300k a year easily. How are they getting their keys? If they aren't legal keys, how the hell do they get away with it? I don't get how a company of that size gets away with it, or am I missing some cheap way of getting bulk OEM keys, say 10 keys a week or so?

    Latest Windows Update

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 03:54 PM PST

I use a windows surface laptop, but ever since I updated it to the latest windows version, it won't let me use the touchscreen anymore no matter what I try, so I reupdated it to the old version, in which it still worked just fine. But I need both the touchscreen function and the latest windows update.

    How can I fix this?

Full reset is stuck on account loading

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 03:43 PM PST

I reset my XIDAX custom built laptop because I was having problems with PATH variables. I've probably done this to my computer twice before and both times the reinstallation of Windows 10 gets stuck when logging into my Windows account. I can't remember how I got past it last time. I don't want to break the thing by turning it off or something. -> unless that's what I need to do. It's the "just a moment" with the continuous spinning code screen, when Cortana is trying to set things up.

    Thanks in advance!

Suggestion: Add the ability to quickly mute/unmute specific windows by right clicking the window on the task bar without the need of going to the volume mixer and search for the desired window to mute/unmute.

    Problem with microphone.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 02:27 PM PST

Hi everyone, i Just created this reddit profile because I have a problem on windows 10 and it's driving me crazy. I just upgraded my pc with a new SSD and I reinstalled windows so I had to install even drivers again, I just installed realtek audio drivers but I just can't use neither the internal nor any external one (except the Bluetooth ones). Before the windows reinstallation everything worked fine but now even if I can see a "microphone" in control panel audio it won't record any sound. If anyone can help it would be amazing. (sorry for my bad english).
