1440p Super LCD vs 1080p OLED ? Android Help

    1440p Super LCD vs 1080p OLED ?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:44 PM PST

I've had an HTC 10 with 1440p Super LCD for a few years and am considering changing to a Google Pixel 4a, but it is OLED and at 1080p. Is there any noticeable difference between 1080p OLED vs 1440p LCD?

I find that the 1440p LCD is extremely sharp (especially with text) and I want to keep this display quality.

Galaxy S9 won't charge unless turned off or in safe mode

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:15 PM PST

I've had a Galaxy s9 for around 2 years now, but all of the sudden it wouldn't charge when I plugged it in. I've tried quite a few things I've seen online such as trying different cables/wall ports, charging it via my computer and cleaning the charging port. The only thing I got out of that was a moisture warning that persisted for about 3 and a half hours before the phone finally died. After another attempt at cleaning, the moisture warning disappeared and I was able to charge my phone while it was turned off or on safe mode, albeit rather slowly. However, once I turn safe mode off, the phone still says that I need to connect a charger, and the charging stops.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm just about at my wits end.

Edit: The moisture warning seems to have appeared even when in safe mode, so I don't think I'm able to charge it at all. The moisture warning will not go away even though it had been exposed to absolutely no water whatsoever.

Have I been scammed in some way?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:09 AM PST

tl;dr took phone to 3rd party repair shop. Picking up the phone it had a different SIM card in the tray. What is the possible risk?

I have a Samsung A70 that I've used since last February. Last night I noticed that the phone was no longer detecting a charging cable being plugged in so after going through the diagnostic steps, I figured out it was the charging port on my phone that was the issue.

It being New Year weekend during a COVID lockdown in London, I had few choices to get my phone fixed. I opted for a 3rd party service because I need my phone for work and for various 2FA services and official Samsung stores in my general area were closed.

I dropped off the phone and was told to collect at 4pm. When I went to collect, before paying the repair guy showed me it was fast charging and so I was happy with it and paid. Within a few moments of leaving the store, a bunch of notifications popped up such as WhatsApp no longer having valid details and asking me to choose an APN for Vodafone - my phone SIM is an O2 SIM.

I went back in the store and told the guy he had replaced the SIM in my phone with a Vodaphone SIM. We confirmed this when he rang me and it didn't ring through on the phone going to VM instead. The guy was adamant he didn't change the SIM etc and was saying he didn't have my SIM. After a few minutes of arguing, one of the other staff picked up a SIM as if by chance which as an O2 SIM and we tried that. It was my SIM.

My phone has a 4-digit PIN lock and was not unlocked for the repairer. My question is - what is the potential risk involved in the situation. If something malicious occurred - what could they have done and how can I protect against any negative consequences? As far as I can see nothing about the phone has changed, and the only noticeable difference is the date changed from the battery being disconnected for an extended period.

Browsing to SD Card in apps that have built-in file browsers, /storage is empty

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:48 PM PST

I am on a Samsung Galaxy Note 20, recently upgraded from a Galaxy S9.

I have some apps like Kodi and emulators such as PPSSPP that utilize their own file browsers.

On my old phone I could navigate to "/storage" using the built in file browser and it would list "emulated" for the internal storage and the SDCard mount point e.g."3114-3262".

Now when I browse to "/storage" it shows empty, nit even showing "emulated"

Is there an update to android that prevent apps from listing directories that are not in internal storage, or is there some setting that enables this?

The SD card is accessible, e.g. in ES explorer, the android file browser service, Samsung MyFiles, it is just no longer accessible via /storage, which breaks applications that only browse through a path (moreso if you cannot edit the path).

Rooting is not an option as I also use this phone for work-related stuff that requires the phone to be unrooted.

    Google Images Don't Load

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:55 PM PST

I have a Pixel 2XL and it seems that ever since the end of support security patch in November, google images do not load correctly from the app or chrome app. They load fine on firefox, but when using google, only a few images load and I cannot click on them to expand. I have tried clearing cache and cookies in my browser and Google account, rebooting, reinstalling, etc. Can't find it as a know bug.

    Rooting Galaxy Tab E

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:44 PM PST

I'm working on rooting this old (5yrs) tablet, simply so I can upgrade Android (4.4.4 is the highest I can get) and run a couple of modern apps for my hifi. PC/USB-based approaches don't seem to work - Odin 3.07 doesn't actually succeed in loading the relevant md5 file to the tablet and Kingo ROOT doesn't detect the tablet. Also, in 4.4.4 (on this device), there's no option for OEM unlocking (I've tried manually setting the clock 7+ days in arrears). USB debugging is on, as is installing from external/'other' sources.

I found Kingroot (different to Kingo ROOT) via APK Pure for a tablet-based approach but the root failed. None of the other apps for tablet-only methods are available (at least I couldn't find them on APK or Play Store).

    Model SM-T560 -- Android 4.4.4 -- Security patch 2016-12-01 -- Kernel version 3.10.17-1157403 -- Build KTU84P.T560XXU0APL1

    Any tips appreciated!

    App Drawer and Quick Settings

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:23 PM PST

Vivo S1 doesn't have a app drawer. All the apps are in the home screen itself. I want the apps to be drawn using "Swipe up". I want the apps to be removed form the home screen and only favourites to be there. Is it possible?
Vivo Y51 have "Quick Settings" on top of the screen. I want it to be in bottom like in Vivo S1. Is there a way?
    Thank You in advance.

    S10 (G973U) stuck on Android 9

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:34 PM PST

I recently bought an unlocked AT&T S10 (SM-G973U) that came with Android 9. I tried the OTA update but it says it is up to date.

Also, it came with the August 2019 security patch. I just want to upgrade to Android 10, or another firmware that updates more consistently. I heard ATT is very bad about updates.

Should I flash the U1 firmware or the U firmware and from which carrier?

What's can stock Android NOT do?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:46 PM PST

    1) backup app data (without root) 2) control individual app background data 3) low latency, such as guitar effects pedal stuff and voice processing without delay

I'm fishing for more because iOS is quite constricting and it'll be hard to switch.

Since when can Chrome bypass the blue light filter ? How do I disable that ?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:23 PM PST

Alright so I've been noticing that, since a few weeks, I've been noticing that whenever I'm on a webpage that has images or such (things like Pinterest, Amazon, really anything that mainly shows pictures), my blue light filter will be dimmed or turned off. I'd guess that this is to ensure color accuracy, but being blasted with blue light when your eyes are acquainted to yellowish tones quite hurt.

I've scrolled through Chrome's parameters,y Google account's parameters and even my phone's (Oppo find X2 Neo). I've searched online but I haven't found anything interesting, only things about this issue on Chromebooks dating from 2 years ago or so, nothing recent.

I would really appreciate some help, I'm very lost right now ! Thank you very much

How to hide albums from showing up in messenger/viber?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:16 PM PST

I'm using Android 8 and the gallery has the option to hide libraries. This way i can hide my video content so it only shows up in MX player. However, the videos still show up when i want to send something over messenger/viber. And because i have hundreds of videos, i have to scroll a lot to find the pictures i usually want to send.

How can i hide stuff from messenger/viber so they don't show up in the "send roll"?

    Help casting video to TV

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:13 PM PST

I got a tablet free with my TV I just bought. It's a ZTE tablet - which I think means it's cheap.

When I go into a video, the cast option doesn't appear. I have the cast option enabled on the system setting level.

Does this brand of tablet not allow casting? It's running Android10.
