Snapdragon 888 Failed? Another Exynos? Disappointing Gaming Performance/Power Tests from Xiaomi MI11 Posted: 02 Jan 2021 02:05 AM PST So we have our first Snapdragon 888 Preview through the Xiaomi MI11. It's important to keep in mind that these are early benchmarks, and you need to take these with a grain of salt. Maybe other phones have better cooling or a firmware update can help. The Mi11 is the first Snapdragon 888 phone widely available, so it is the first SD 888 phone we have data on. The performance is comparable to an Apple A13 in Geekbench (at least in multicore, although the 888 is closer to an A12 in single core), but the power consumption is up over the Snapdragon 865. In some areas, performance per watt has actually regressed. Keep in mind too that longer periods of high temperatures means greater likelihood of thermal throttling. The review has a case of throttling in Genshin Impact, which for those unaware is a popular gacha game. This will be important as this SOC will be used by most of the big Android 2021 flagships. Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhNmbOtvP98 Also for reference, here are the early Anandtech results: https://www.anandtech.com/show/16325/qualcomm-discloses-snapdragon-888-benchmarks They didn't have power consumption though to Anandtech.
I don't know if these early Mi11 tests are accurate, but if they are, it would explain Qualcomm's unwillingness to disclose the power consumption. [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Dec 2020 11:14 AM PST Why isn't there more of a push for an android battery health monitor like iOS has? Is it too hardware specific to execute well? This is most important for phone resale. A third party app lacks the day 1 battery life baseline analysis and prevents a clear community standard for comparison. Seems like an important part of the android OS that is missing to me. [link] [comments]
The galaxy s21 will have a screen dpi lower than that an 8 year old galaxy s4 from 2013 Posted: 31 Dec 2020 05:49 AM PST If the 1080p panel is true: 2021 Galaxy S21 - 6.3 inches - 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~418 ppi density) 2020 Galaxy S20 - 6.2 inches - 1440 x 3200 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~563 ppi density) 2019 Galaxy S10 - 6.1 inches - 1440 x 3040 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~550 ppi density) 2018 Galaxy S9 - 5.8 inches - 1440 x 2960 pixels, 18.5:9 ratio (~570 ppi density) 2017 Galaxy S8 - 5.8 inches - 1440 x 2960 pixels, 18.5:9 ratio (~570 ppi density) 2016 Galaxy S7 - 5.1 inches - 1440 x 2560 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~577 ppi density) 2015 Galaxy S6 - 5.1 inches - 1440 x 2560 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~577 ppi density) 2014 Galaxy S5 - 5.1 inches - 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~432 ppi density) 2013 Galaxy S4 - 5.0 inches - 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~441 ppi density) 2012 Galaxy S3 - 4.8 inches - 720 x 1280 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~306 ppi density) I guess this year is meant as an upgrade to anyone coming from the galaxy S, S2, or S3?
