Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:20 PM PST I own a Dell XPS, and the version of Windows 10 that came with it came with bloatware. Whenever I reinstall the OS, the bloatware comes back. I want to get a super fresh, bare bones installation of Windows 10, free of bloatware and anything else. Would I have to purchase the OS in order to do that, despite already having fork of it on my device? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:55 PM PST Hello, I have Shadowplay record and save in-game clips and screenshots to a Onedrive folder which is set to online-only as to not use up my entire disk. However, every time I accidentally click on the gallery button, this app immediately requests all those online-only files to be downloaded, and I don't get a prompt to block it from doing so. Is there any way to change add this to a block list in the registry or something to just keep it from filling my drive? [link] [comments]
how to get windows 98 animations? Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:38 PM PST i run windows xp in a VM, with windows classic and "windows 2002" mod. i want to get those animations when right clicking and pressing the start menu, where the menu slides open, instead of fading in. i know setting to 256 colors does that, but i still need the other 16776960 colors... any way to do this? Context menu / right click menu for command prompt & powershell Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:30 PM PST I have reinstalled my operating system and have lost the information on how I did it/where I downloaded it from I had the following options when I right clicked anything:
I have no idea how I did it, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, that'd be awesome. I'm pretty sure I downloaded a registry file or maybe a program that allowed me to do this (perhaps one of the many Windows modification tools?) This worked on folders, files, everything basically. Windows Git Bash change "~" directory when at work Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:18 PM PST Not sure if this is the right place to post - I have git bash installed on my work laptop, a HP Elitebook running win 10. It's installed with scoop. I've set HOME variable to "c:\Users\username". This works fine at home (with VPN to work as well) that my home directory is at the right place. And when I type "pwd ~" i got "/c/Users/username". However, when i'm at work, connecting to work internet, my "~" directory becomes a server address that's mounted at "W:\". The issue is that when I type "pwd ~", i still got "/c/Users/username", but when I type "cd ~", I ended up in "W:\". This also created a .bash_history file in "W:\". All of my "home" configuration file is not accessible because it's looking for files in "W:\". Anyone knows what's going on here? [link] [comments]
Moving Windows to a different SSD Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:15 PM PST Hello. Just built a new PC, and I tried using Macrium Reflect 7 to clone Windows 10 from my old Kingston 120 GB SATA 6 SSD to my new Corsair MP600 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD. However, I failed to realize that I had to increase the storage of the partitions on the new NVMe, so I just got a 120 GB partition instead of the 1 TB after cloning. I undid the cloning, and then installed Windows 10 Home with a USB and liscense key on the NVMe. Here I also failed to realize that some of the files on my old HDD (that I moved over to the new PC) weren't going to work as they were installed on a different OS on the old SSD. Now my question is this: can I clone the old SSD with the old Windows 10 OVER the Windows that I installed on the NVMe? Or would I have to wipe the NVMe and remove the recently installed Windows 10 in krder to clone it again? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Windows is stuck in airplane mode Posted: 29 Dec 2020 07:52 PM PST Windows is completely stuck in airplane mode and every button to shut it off is grey. I've seen a couple of different people complain about this but I've yet to find an answer that helps me. I didn't put it in airplane mode I just noticed it was on while using the computer. I don't believe I've done anything to prompt this to happen. [link] [comments]

What would getting a clean Windows 10 from Microsoft take? Posted: 29 Dec 2020 03:36 PM PST This isn't a complaint, rather a serious question. We all know about the annoyances of Window 10... The stupid Candy Crush-level of pre-installed junk, the constant fear and misunderstanding of the 'spying' Microsoft is doing, the suggestions in the start menu for apps you will never install, you know what I'm talking about. My question is simple. What would it take to get Microsoft to give us headache-free, clean version of Windows 10? The benefits for us would be obvious: - No more uninstall-spree after doing even a clean install - No more need to run PowerShell scripts to get rid of the bloatware - No more 'fear' of Windows spying on you - etc... Of course, if it just benefits us and not them, maybe that's not enough of a reason. The partnerships with all the stupid games and other apps I never gave permission for bring in money for the company, and so does the profiling of users for advertising deals. So what would be a suitable solution both parties would benefit from? - Would Windows need to receive a price bump so Microsoft can leave out the privacy-stuff and partnerships? Of course, telemetry for crash information can stay since it's important. - Could there be an ISO made available for download via the official Microsoft MediaCreationTool for power users so all this stuff is stripped out ahead of time? No need to do all this yourself, and laptops can still be sold with regular W10 Home pre-installed. That way regular users won't notice a difference but customer satisfaction for people who are similarly bothered by this would increase massively. I have been a Windows user all my life and don't plan on changing that anytime soon. It's been different in the past but I really like working with Windows a lot right now, so it saddens me to see these ridiculous and annoying things ruining my excitement everytime I do a clean install. I just wish we could all be friends. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this! [link] [comments]
Best general use IDE for Win 10 Posted: 29 Dec 2020 06:51 PM PST Hi all, I'm a beginning programmer and have been searching for a free, general use IDE for Windows 10. I was hoping that someone had some suggestions as to what works really well and is easy to learn. [link] [comments]
Error from nvlddmkm in Event Viewer after system crashes Posted: 29 Dec 2020 12:42 PM PST This seems to be weakly linked to using fullscreen applications like games, though it happens other times as well. The system won't produce a bluescreen dump, it just makes one monitor black, the other some random color (usually faded blueish, this last time it was orange), and leaves me with no choice but to hard power down the computer. On occasion I have been able to press the power button to request a shutdown, and after a minute or so it will recover enough to show the shutting down screen, but this is rare, even when left to try this for quite some time. After it boots back up I will see the above in the event log from just before it went down, and this a little while after it comes back up: Any help is greatly appreciated, this has been a constant headache for the last couple weeks. pipo w11 came with the wrong edition of windows 10, pro instead of the advertised home Posted: 29 Dec 2020 02:39 PM PST This is a first for me, I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence from this company or if this was a one-off thing, but either way, I need some way to fix it, and before you ask, the support link in about is broken, it opens as hhtpps probably a type-o. If it's nessecery to reflash the home version of windows, I can do that, but I need to know if the tablet's touchscreen will still work after the fact. So yeah, I need help switching this to the home edition or windows. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Dec 2020 09:34 AM PST System info:
I've been noticing that each time the display turns off, when you move the mouse to turn it back on, night light turns off. However it turns back on automatically when you open the Settings app. Not a huge deal, but it does kind of give my eyes a jolt when I'm doing evening file copying. Over on my Inspiron 1564, the same happens when waking from sleep. Except this time, you have to manually turn the Night Light slider off and on to re-enable night light. Have any of you guys experienced this? Is this mainly because I'm running budget hardware, or is it because most of my computers are still running mechanical hard drives? [link] [comments]
