    FairEmail - active development finihed

FairEmail will keep being maintained and supported in 2021, but there won't be any new big features anymore. (..) In other words, I am considering FairEmail as completely finished now.

Im so over Lastpass on Android. Are there any cross platform password managers that arent total crap?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 07:46 PM PST

Are all Android password managers equally useless because such kludgy OS integration?

Have been very happy with Lastpass on Desktop for over 10 years. JHave become progressively more frustrated with the Android app.

Anyone having success with a working, reliable alternative? Factor authentication ability a plus but not essential.

Recommendations for Colornote replacement with ability to import notes from csv/plaintext

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:08 AM PST

So, I have used Colornote for years and recently needed to export my notes. Colornote only lets you export one by one which is no good when you have thousands of notes. Anyway, I managed to extract the notes from the database db file, but I'm now wondering if there are any good note apps that might let me import a bunch of notes from like a csv file for example.

I like the layout/backup options of colornote, but no option to export all notes is a game over for me now.

    Any recommendations greatly appreciated, cheers!

App to share pictures to own HTTP server?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:28 AM PST

I once had an app that integrated itself into the Share menu. You could select a photo and share it to this app, and the app would upload the photo to a predefined web server with a PHP script.

Alas I can't find this app anymore. Does anyone know about it?

Looking for a minimal browser as link viewer only.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:48 AM PST

    Hey there,

I'm using an old rooted android phone for my everyday purposes, and to increase productivity, I've deleted all apps that might consume time (while working/ studying and so on). That also includes all web browsers.

I usually don't need any browsing on my phone, so I'm pretty happy without a browser on my phone. However, sometimes it would be nice to at least open web links (e.g. to sign up in public networks, check an emailed link quickly...).

Do you know any minimal browser that does not have an URL field and is limited to viewing links only?

If not, do you have any suggestions of a minimal open-source browser I could use to modify it myself? I do have programming skills but I don't have any android experience (yet).

    Thanks for any hint!

best free apps to help kids ppl learn english

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 11:17 AM PST

best free apps to help kids ppl learn english

    what have you used

    or know is very good

seems that duolingo for english is not free? or only certain languages are free?

is there chart map somewhere of all this?

    also

looking for nonfiction books + sites + apps to give to ppl kids to help them learn english

    • looking for sources that lists books by reading level
    • kids + ppl that are learning english have a very limited vocab, and this would be a huge hurdle/pain in them learning english
      • they prob would have to check the dictionary like every second

i know there's tons + tons of free books

and yet oddly enough if i were to think of where to get free nonfiction books, im utterly stumped... weird

these books are mainly meant to give to ppl to learn english

so a site that listed by reading level would be pretty good helpful

    reading mediums/tools:

    1. have android tablet
    2. have iphone
    3. dont have kindle etc

either of first 2 would be the reading medium

sites with positive productive learning type of news / info would be another source of reading content/material

    what type of nonfiction content?

    1. posiive good stuff
    2. dont want them reading trash or trash information

why free? when there's tonnnnnnnnnnnnns of free nonfiction books, why paid when arent even gonna be any better

    what kind of nonfiction books?

anything, anything positive good helpful useful to life not trash

want the nonfiction books to have relatively high ratings on amazon like at least 4.3+ probably

reading good things = good person, reading trash = trash brain

if you give me some good sites that shows books by reading level, then i can pick good books for the ppl, kids, anyone that's learning english who are gonna be given to so that works too

so low vocabulary would be very important

since ppl learning english have a very limited vocab

most nonfiction books would use an extensive range of vocab so this would be a huge important for anyone learning englsih

so yea i guess good sites that shows books by reading level would be the best thing

Efficient cleaning app - please help

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 03:27 AM PST

    Hi!

I'm a hardcore android user (non-rooted) that likes to... well hoard apps on his tablet. This of course means that sooner or later I meet the large brick wall called "not enough space remaining".

At the moment I'm using Sony's Z4 WIFI tablet and I love it, but lately I'm having huge issues with app updates (a known and unfixed bug) - namely sony's firmware is no longer able to update apps that are stored on the SD. So I must always transfer the app back to internal storage, update and transfer back. With a 50-50 chance of tablet freezing in between.

After inspecting my storage a bit I became suspicious that there are some remains of uninstalled apps (of my 32Gb storage 11Gb is declared as Other - app caches and so on). I'm therefore looking for some recommendations as to what really works.

I'm using SD maid pro, but it does not find much. I tried a few other apps but they sooner or later morphed into either subscription or bloatware. So I'm asking you - which would you recommend?

    And thank you in advance!

    Looking for a widget-based timestamp/journal app

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 10:59 PM PST

I am trying to overcome severe memory issues, and one of my proposed coping mechanisms is quickly taking note of when things happen, so that I am able to remember whether or not I did things on a given day, and when they happened.

To this end, I would really like an incredibly easy, ideally one tap, widget which will timestamp certain user-defined activities. I have been using this TimeStamper app, in lieu of this TimeStamp Maker app, but neither are fully what I want.

Timestamp maker would have been perfect, except that fairly often I find that it has lost various time stamps, whether added from the widget or from the app itself. I have contacted the developer and followed his instructions on ensuring that my Samsung phone doesn't kill his app, but this has not seemed to have an effect. Additionally, it doesn't have any way to categorize or tag entries, so looking back through things is sometimes difficult to parse with my cognitive issues.

Time Stamper, the one that I'm using now, technically fulfills my requirements in terms of having a functional widget, having categories to sort my timestamps by, and so on. The issue is that it has almost no quality of life to it. There are like four settings, and none of them are all that important. If you want to edit a category, you have to delete it and then recreate it. But if you delete it, it deletes all the entries under it as well. So you have to make a new category, and then manually transfer every single entry before you can delete the old one. Also, the menu to edit an entry is incredibly finicky, with a tiny hitbox and you have to edit each part of an entry separately, so for example if you wanted to change the date and the time, you would need to access the menu twice. I could go on, but that's not what this post is about.

I feel as if I have exhausted the search terms that I think could be relevant. I would greatly appreciate any help or recommendations you guys have! Thank you very much.

    password manager

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:40 AM PST

I have just see this post and it's (kind of?) exactly what i need. I have never used a password manager before, but since my phone got stolen about two weeks ago now I had to change every password I could think of, using the auto-fill function of Firefox, or a password generator website - there is no way I will be able to remember those, thus the need for one.

What do you recommend ? I will most likely buy a Samsung phone (so being on android) and I have windows 10 for my laptop. Something that syncs between these two, but also free, since in Algeria we cannot pay for stuff online, even if we wanted to. (3rd world problem amirite).

    Thanks !

    Podcast Addict vs Antennapod

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 11:02 PM PST

I've just got my new phone and about to decide which Podcast App I should get. Narrowed down my choices, pls convince me why I should get Podcast Addict over Antennapod.

My main concern isn't privacy, but of course, given the choice, FOSS like Antennapod (which also comes without ads) is not bad at all, a bonus indeed!

Library wise, which one has larger collection?

Also speaking of speed, which one is smoother without spikes/lags while streaming?

[DEV] CallPesa - Beautiful calling app with added capability to charge for calls in real-time.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 03:48 AM PST

CallPesa is an app that allows anyone to designate a contact or a caller as a client. It then automatically tracks all calls between you and that contact and records them as billable time expended.

This data is neatly populated in an invoice and can be exported whenever you need it by email to yourself, to your client, or to any practice management system for aggregated billing.

In short, CallPesa is the answer to the "Quick one" or "Pick your brain" calls so that professionals fully maximize their days while maintaining a semblance of balance in their lives.

We have just made it available for download internationally. Give it a run here.

    Happy to engage :)
