Posted: 31 Dec 2020 05:42 PM PST So i was on an adult website and i accidentally clicked on an ad while trying to close it and my phone( Samsung Galaxy A51 if that's important) restarted. I was then worried if i could have a virus, i went on and installed AVG Antivirus and Mc Afee and scanned my phone. I also used the device care on my phone and all of them say that there are no problems. I am still worried because my phone sometimes hangs but it's nothing bad really. And one wierd thing that happend was that when i first started Mc Afee my screen got darker and was stuck for like a second. Also when i turn my phone off and then on it gets stuck a little but again nothing really bad. So my question is is there anyhing else i can do because i'm still unsure about this. And also i used the Safe Mode but i couldn't find any suspicious apps. [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 31 Dec 2020 09:24 PM PST Finding that force allow option under Dev options has been the best thing for my low end phone. Problem is, I moved my default browser (only browser not disabled for user under ADB) and now when I launch the browser, all controls are normal, as in not frozen or hung app. When I try to go to a website, any website, it just brings up a blank page, no error just a blank white screen. This isn't an app issue, I can open tabs, go through the menus it just shows nothing when inputting a url or selecting a favorite/bookmark. Checked other apps that use the internet and they work fine. Apple music, various games, etc. Interestingly enough, if I do a google address bar search, it does sync it. When I open chrome on laptop, the search I inputted for this issue, autofilled in chrome. I have uninstalled, installed, verified able to browse when installed in internal storage, moved to external successfully, same issue. moved browser back to internal storage, all works well. So, is this just an app that won't work if on external storage? It's a bummer, as the browser does end up being a rather large footprint with daily use [link] [comments]  |

| Best way to format microSD card for Android usage? (Bonus: with encryption) Posted: 31 Dec 2020 08:39 PM PST What is the best way to format a microSD card to work on a range of Android devices? Overiew: I have a number of different Samsung phones (2 x S9s, 1 x S7) in various state of disrepair/broken, that I'm looking to get the data off of. I plan to take them to a repair center, and have them do some temporary repairs just enough to get them working so I can retrieve whatever is possible. My plan is to try to put everything on a microSD card that I have (SanDisc 400GB). I don't know what if any parts of the phones will be working, so I will have the option of both using the internal microSD card slot, as well as an external adapter through the MicroUSB/USB-C charging port. I know that, at least for my past experience, whenever I have tried to use a microSD card with Android it needs to be "formatted" specially. Sometimes the phone can do this, but sometimes it just repeatedly fails. I would rather not have this issue, since I'm really only going to have one chance to do this, so I'm wondering if it is possible to pre-format it, so I can just drop it into both of these types of devices, or use the external adapter as necessary. - 1] Is there a universal Android microSD card format, and if so what is the best way to actually perform at the card? Can I do this from another Android device or do I have to use a desktop computer? (Note, all these broken phones have not been updated in maybe 18 months, so they could be running an older version of Android, if that makes a difference). - 2] I want to take the contents of this microSD card, once I collect your data from all the devices, and upload the entire volume directly to my cloud storage provider. Does this require special form do I need to create a subfolder within the total microSD card volume and put everything in there? Or is it possible to upload the entire contents to the cloud? - Bonus: If possible, I would like to encrypt the microSD card with standard symmetric key encryption software, that uses a regular password, so all the data that I add to it will only be accessible with that. Is such a thing possible with the format which is compatible with Android? So, is there a way I can do this that also combines Step 2 - creating something I can upload directly to a cloud provider? I know unlocking the bootloader will allow flashing of custom recovery and roms, but is there any other use to unlocking the bootloader? | Help with finding an app or feature Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:21 PM PST Hello all! I've switched over from ios to android a short time ago now and I am loving the change. Now at first, after going through all the features and settings, I was using the Full screen navigation option over the traditional 3 buttons option. I really liked the unobtrusive nature of the single line at the bottom gesture based navigation of the full screen option but I am looking to change back to the 3 button option for a couple of reasons. I found whenever I type I was accidently gesturing up to bring me to the home screen and canceling my text which was inconvenience. Then lastly I feel like there are a small amount of features like Youtube's small video player and one handed mode that are great if you are using the 3 button option. Really the only thing I miss from the full screen gesture option is being able to swipe from the left or right of the screen to be able to go back a page or hold to go back between apps. I really liked that and I don't like that I have to stretch my thumb to hit the back arrow on the 3 button option... And I guess another small complaint is that I don't like how "obtrusive" 3 button mode is. So finally my question to everyone is, is there anything that will allow me to have the feature of being able to swipe from the edges of the screen to be able to act as the back button and is there something to be able to either hide the 3 buttons at the bottom until I need them or maybe even add functionally to the black sides of the mode? I tried disabling absolute volume and unpairing it. It was only solved by doing a factory reset. | Download mode not reconized by windows Posted: 31 Dec 2020 04:33 PM PST I tried flashing my note 10 lite with the most recent firmware, but messed up somewhere. I'm stuck in Download mode, with none of Windows, Odin, Linux (lsusb, dmesg, udevadm -monitor), Heimdall or adb recognizing the device. Here's the behavior: Reboots immediately (<2s) into Download mode, with no ability to get into the bootloader menu - or maybe I'm too slow? But it's super, super quick to get into download mode No pips from any usb monitoring software when I connect it No way to tell if it's charging or not (maybe the port on the phone died?) I've tried connecting it to 3 machines - 2 linux, 1 windows, to each of the ports on those devices, with 3 different cables (2x usb-c to c, 1x usb-a to c), including the port and cable I used to do the original failed flash Displayed text on the phone:

I've heard that if a phone is rooted or if something has affected the ability for the phone to restore itself to factory state properly, it won't be able to receive software updates over the air - is this true?
