HP Envy. Mouse keeps jumping to beginning

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 11:22 AM PST

Hi! My HP Envy Laptop keeps on jumping to the beginning on whatever text I have. It's a touch screen, but i disabled the touchscreen and that still didn't fix anything. Additionally, it's not my touchpad. I'm running a "System Quick Test" right now, hoping to find a fix. If anybody has any ideas I would appreciate it

Ping and Ipconfig not recognized after windows updates. Can you check my system "path"

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:05 PM PST

Can no longer ping or do an ipconfig, etc.

    Here is my PATH: https://i.imgur.com/yR0opzu.png

It looks like "%SystemRoot%\system32" is there.

    Isn't this equivalent to "C:\Windows\System32" ?

    Thanks for the help

    Thanks

Help! FFXIV Won't Stop Crashing, Sometimes Takes Computer With It

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 06:41 PM PST

Hi there. My partner and I have been experiencing a lot of issues playing FFXIV on Windows 10 in the past few months on my custom-built desktop, with the game crashing frequently and the computer sometimes crashing along with it. We tried a lot (which I will list below), including replacing the SSD and RAM, in order to try to fix this.

For a while, the computer crashed almost every time FFXIV did, until it eventually reached a point where it was stuck in an endless loop of BSODs that resulted in Windows being unable to actually start up. As I recall/have taken pictures, the consistent BSOD message was "PFN_LIST_CORRUPTED." We got on the phone with Microsoft Support, who took hours of our time and got us to wipe both of our drives, all while failing to do a clean install of Windows. We then took it to a repair place that got a clean install of Windows done successfully, though they could not save our data. We reinstalled FFXIV, seemed like we were good to go, and then the crashes came back after a week or two. Ever since the clean install, it has been mostly the game crashing on its own instead of the game crashing and then a BSOD coming with it, but BSODs have been becoming more common in the past few days. "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" is even back with a vengeance.

Initially the problems seemed to have something to do with things were split between the C: and D: drives, now it seems it may have to do with memory errors. Below is a list of some of the error messages we have received from game crashes, followed by BSOD messages, followed by the steps we have taken to troubleshoot.

    FFXIV errors:

    1. The instruction at 0x00007FF94C0EDC30 referenced memory at 0x00007FF94C0EDC30. The memory could not be written.

    1. An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV. 2020-12-14_11:31

    nvwgf2umx.dll+67F25A

    nvwgf2umx.dll+163552C

(We have gotten many errors like this one, filenames are not always the same, this is just the one for which I had a picture handy to copy from.)

    BSOD stop codes:

    1. PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

    1. MEMORY MANAGEMENT

    Steps taken:

    1. Moved the .exe files for FFXIV out of the Steam folders so that Steam could be "tricked" into reinstalling it, in an attempt to replace the old .exe files
    2. Replaced SSD
    3. Replaced RAM
    4. Clean install of Windows 10 (an unintentionally wiped both drives)
    5. Renamed "Steam Library" file
    6. Uninstalled game from C: drive and reinstalled on D: drive (and replicated step 6)
    7. Turned off all overlays (Steam, Discord, GeForce)

Anything you folks can think of to help us stop the crashes would be greatly appreciated.

    Device Manager/PCI Device Problem

    Device Manager/ PCI Device Problem

Hello. I am having trouble finding the correct driver to download to fix my PCI device. I think I accidentally deleted the driver a few months ago according to the events tab of the PCI device. Can someone please help me get the correct driver? Thank you so much.

    Driver status:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

PC Specs (I feel like only the motherboard is the important spec for this specific problem):

    Windows 10, 64 Bit

    i7-8700 CPU

Baseboard is an ASRock B360M IB-R1

Converting from an MBR to a GPT partition table in preparation for a Windows 10 installation.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:50 PM PST

Hey everyone! Hope you all can help me out with this.

Excuse me if this is a rather elementary issue; I'm not particularly experienced with these sorts of issues.

    I've been trying to install Windows 10 on my machine (currently running Windows 7) using a bootable USB, but I've run into a number of issues. Upon selecting my installation location I was greeted with the following error;

'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks'.

From what I understand, my OS drive (on which I plan to dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 10) is formatted in the MBR partition scheme and I must convert the drive to a GPT partition table if I am to install Windows 10. I've determined that my system is UEFI-compatible, however, I am unable to switch between the UEFI and Legacy Boot modes in my BIOS settings.

I understand it is possible to make a backup of the drive, wipe the drive clean, and re-format the partition table that way, but seen as my ultimate goal is to dual boot the two operating systems I'd much prefer a solution that does not involve having to re-format the drive.

After much research, I found a command-line utility on GitHub called gptgen. This seems like it would suit my issue quite well, however, the read-me advises against using the utility on the OS drive due to boot issues between GPT and MBR. It instructs me to 'create a BIOS boot partition and install a GPT-aware boot loader' which I'm not quite sure how to go about doing. Does anyone have any ideas? Are there any other tools out there that might suit my purpose?

Thanks so much in advance. :)

TL;DR - ran into issues installing Windows 10 on an MBR drive, must convert to GPT. would prefer a solution that does not involve wiping the drive clean.
