India. Can you peeps please suggest me a laptop within the quoted price range, something to handle light photo editing, light gaming of recent and upcoming games and basically on the go device with decent if not excellent battery. Rgb keyboards are okay but not tacky lighting like the ASUS TUF or the STRIX laptops. Anything with i5 or ryzen 5. But also let me know if ryzen 7 or i7 variants are available. The ones I'm rooting for are the Lenovo Legion 5i (Ryzen not available in India) and the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14.

Update : found one legion i5, 1 tb + 256 SSD, 8gb with 1650 ti for 75k at a store near me. Go for it?

    Hey everyone.

Basically, im looking to buy a new laptop for not more than 1000 euros in spain. I care about the long term, i dont want it to start dying on me in 1 year. I mainly use it for college and personal coding projects.

    • A display not more than 15,6
    • I prefer 16 gb of ram
    • 2in1, regular, notebook, i dont mind any of them.
    • a 512 gb ssd would be very good

Thats about everything. Amazon.es would be a good place to check prices. If anyone has any recommendations that don't completely fit my needs or even exceed them, please post them either way.

    Thanks in advance!

Low Latency laptop for music production, general use - up to $3k USD?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 10:31 PM PST

Seeking a general use laptop for relatively frequent audio production as well.

Close friend of mine highly recommends just getting a souped up MacBook Air 13" with an i7 from a few years ago, says they're good machines and very affordable... but I'm leaning towards getting something newer.

Have used Mac and PC, tend to use PC for audio but open.

I do have a Focusrite 18i8 (recent model) that I'd like to be able to use - whether that means via a USB hub or direct USB port, I'm also open. But it does mean I'd like to ensure a machine that can minimize latency because that's been a problem in the past.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Up to $3000 USD could be ok.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      Would rather not.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Minimizing latency combined with build quality are #1 - I've had to replace monitor cables on laptops before, would rather not have to do so. Performance more important than battery life. Ability to be upgraded would be interesting as well but not crucial.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      Not crucial.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Don't prefer smallest of screens. I suppose 15"+ is better in my view. I don't mind a huge laptop even if it does the work.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Only a little gaming. Mostly audio production - Ableton, Reason, Sibelius, a few other things. With connecting external sound card (Focusrite 18i8), so low latency + ability to connect via USB (whether via USB hub or via direct USB to computer) is pretty crucial.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Not really. Nothing specific. Not a heavy/serious gamer.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Reliable build quality. SSD would be ideal. Min 1 TB storage. 2 TB even better.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I was looking at i7 or i9 laptops but have heard recently maybe to avoid Intel chips? Really not sure. Heard good things about Dell XPS 13, 15 or 17... but then heard maybe latency is an issue with them. Would like to get a workhorse that won't crap out, won't break w/normal, careful usage, and won't start chugging from just typical usage.

    Thank you!

Looking for a performance laptop under CAD$1100

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:09 AM PST

Canada. Looking for a laptop I can use to run primarily design software like sketch or figma. I play games fairly often but I'm ok to compromise on game performance when it comes to value for money.

I prefer ryzen builds but have no preference in terms of graphic card or mobo

I would appreciate a good heatsink that doesn't sound like a jet plane (wishful thinking)

I was looking at Eluktronics but they start from USD1600 which is way out of my budget.

I mean I'd prefer 60+fps on some triple a games but at my budget don't want to push my luck.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Reliable build quality for sure, decent screen quality and one that has some USB/hdmi ports honestly and SSD

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Would not mind if has extra features such as touch screen/ touch bar but Def not a must

Thanks for any input guys. Preferably want to buy in next few days. Would be smarter to wait for black Friday deals but alas I need it asap

    $1,000 - $1,300 USD and USA

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 09:10 PM PST

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Sturdy is necessary because I have kids. My wife will use it sometime for light internet browsing (usually shopping) so a light weight laptop is preferred. I'll usually use it gaming like cod and other FPS. Probably will hdmi to tv to play, so screen brightness doesn't matter too much. Size 13-15in, smaller is preferred. Future proof as much as possible.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

      Under or around 5 lbs

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      15in or less

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

      COD, cyberpunk, Fortnite, Sims

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

What ever is best for FPS

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Good keyboard and touchpad, won't break easily

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 09:08 PM PST

I'm looking to buy a laptop for professional video editing (4k videos) via Adobe Premiere Pro. So far I've found these machines and they seem to be rather nice with no apparent problems with them. I wanted to make sure there aren't any hidden problems (heating issues, unprecedented performance issues, fragile case, etc.) and I'm also open to suggestions on which machine would be better. The machine would be with a 4k screen, 32g ram, RTX 2060.

US / up to 500ish / Used, barebones gaming laptop

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:57 PM PST

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      up to 500USD
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
Will need to be with this price range, looking at the higher end used market.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Build Quality / Performance / Battery life

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not at all. It'll rarely leave the house.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A but bigger is always better

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      No...when not gaming it'll basically be a youtube/reddit machine.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
FO76 at 1080/60 and it'd be nice for cyberpunk to be playable. If im not mistaken at this budget and expectation im likely looking at a 1050ti or 1060, which im fine with for for a few more years.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Backlit keyboard, reliable build quality, excellent Bluetooth reliability, reasonable temps that i can make better with a cooling mat. Must also have a compatible powered docking station or port replicator. Lastly, it cant have pages of tech forum posts about known power issues. Really just looking for a awesomely reviewed gaming workhorse for its time thats in its last 3 or so years of life.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I would prefer to spend the whole budget on a bare bones gaming laptop without any storage, OS or (depending on the model), ram and cables even as I have most or all of this already and would prefer to customize it myself in order to use my full budget for a highest end model I can get.
This machine will only be used for gaming maybe a couple hours a day and will be under very light load the rest of the time.

Casual laptop for the coffee table?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 11:32 AM PST

I am basically looking for a laptop to casually use to web surf, watch YouTube, use MS Office, possibly do some software development in my free time. I plan to mostly have it on my coffee table for casual use, as I already have a gaming desktop, but I would like it to hopefully last a few years and have decent thermals and hopefully a fan that doesn't sound like a plane is taking off. Leaning towards something with a Ryzen 7 since it seems to outperform Intel's offerings currently, but not much looks available at the moment, especially with the 4800h.

Edit: Wow, looks like Lenovo Flex 5 is the one to get, any drawbacks to it at all??

    · Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase.

    $800, USA

    · Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

    · How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Leaning towards 2-in-1, but not necessary. I know this is probably a lot to ask in my price range, but I would like great battery life and a nice build quality.

    · How important is weight and thinness to you?

If I go with 2-in-1 then weight/thinness is important.

    · Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Eluktronics - Customer Service Review (Terrible)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 10:44 AM PST

Original is in the link below:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/jnfm63/terrible_eluktronics_customer_service_experience/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

    Hi All,

I wanted to share my Eluktronics experience so far as their laptops seems to be a popular option in this subreddit. Apologies for the wall of text below:

I was in the market for my first gaming laptop/computer earlier this year and perused this subreddit pretty heavily to educate myself of the different brands that were out there, performance, and the customer service experience. It was important to me to have competent customer service since I was traveling frequently pre-covid and knowing the clutz I am, it was inevitable I would be calling in for some type of repair. Thus I steered clear of brands like Razer due to the horrible CS stories.

I thought I found the holy grail in Eluktronics. From what I could read, they had fair customer service and you couldn't beat the performance for the price. I put in my order for the Mech 15 G3 as my personal laptop to do some photo editing and gaming and was thrilled with the performance and thermals. I could finally hang out with my siblings again thru online gaming as I was avoiding as much in-person contact because of covid.

The klutz in me came in after a month of ownership. I was setting my laptop down on my table when I stumbled and somehow the screen bent back a little too far breaking a hinge and slightly pulling the bezel panel from the screen. The damage was only cosmetic. The laptop worked fine and I was able to tape the panel back onto the screen. There was slightly issue closing the laptop, but since I was not traveling, I could leave it open on my desk. I contacted Eluktronics the next day to see what they could do.

I called the customer service number and was advised to send pictures of the damage so they could evaluate. It took them 5 days to get back to me and only after I sent a follow up email did they respond. They asked for my shipping address which I promptly responded with and met with radio silence for 10 days. After 10 days, they asked for my order number so they could provide the shipping label and after responding promptly, I was again met with radio silence for about a week or so. I called in just to see what was going on and finally did they email me a shipping label. I was told this would be an expedited repair and was quoted a turnaround time of 2 days. Time Elapsed - 3 weeks to email me a shipping label

It took me about a week to package my laptop for delivery because of a holiday weekend. A week after my computer was "delivered" per UPS, there was no word from Eluktronics. Not an email confirming receipt, not a status update. Radio silence. A common theme so far. I was extremely busy at work so it wasn't like I would be gaming even if I had my laptop so I was okay with Eluktronics doing their thing. I called in to see what was going on and was told they just received my laptop and would start the repairs shortly. MALARKEY. I had they tracking number and knew it was delivered a week ago. I was then told they would have my laptop shipped out in 2 days. Total Time Elapsed since first contact - 5 weeks with a promise of 2 day turnaround

Another week went past with no new information so I called in again. This time I was told they could not do the repair at their facility and would be shipping my laptop to their extended repair facility with an estimated turnaround time of 3-4 weeks. I was clearly frustrated at this point, but basically was told there was nothing they could do. When pressed for better communication, I was told just to keep call in. Basically it was my responsibility to pester them for updates and the emails I sent with no response wasn't going to get better. Total Time Elapsed since first contact - 6 weeks. Eluktronics have had my laptop for 3 weeks - No repairs started

3 weeks later I call in for yet another updated and it was the usual response. They're working on it. After another week that I call and was told they heard back from their extended repair facility and they are hoping to send out the laptop in another week to the original facility and then next day aired back to me.

Another 1.5 weeks has past, leading us to present day and was told my laptop has not been shipped yet from their extended repair facility and are unsure of the status of the repair. Total Time Elapsed since first contact - 11.5 weeks. Eluktronics have had my laptop for 8.5 weeks - Unsure of status of repair. No timeline given of when I could expect my laptop back.

TL:DR: Bought an Eluktronics laptop and sent it in for repair. They have had my laptop for 8.5 weeks now after being quoted a 2 day turnaround. Bare minimum communication from their customer service team and currently unsure of the status of the repairs.

Looking for a 14"+ laptop for light gaming and digital art Making for $600-800 USA

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 07:07 PM PST

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$600-800 USA but willing to go higher if needed.

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance, screen quality, build quality, battery life, would prefer it doesn't look like a gaming laptop (chunky/colorful keyboard).

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Would prefer it be <5 pounds, thinner would be nicer

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    At least 14".

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Krita for digital art with a separate drawing tablet. I would like to at least be able to run games on Dolphin Emulator with several tabs open on Google Chrome without slowing everything down.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Not too particular, see above. Don't have other specific games in mind right now.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Good keyboard and touchpad are a plus, but I'm not too picky. No need for touch-screen, fingerprint reader, or optical drive, but fine to have them.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I like to use my laptop in bed, so would appreciate decent thermals or at least fans on the side.

    Thank you!

Would this laptop be good for a computer science major?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 03:05 PM PST

I'm looking into getting a new laptop for when I start college next year as a computer science major. Since I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing, I'm curious what people here think of this laptop. On Black Friday, it will be on sale for $499.99. Is it a good deal and does it have everything I'll need? If it's relevant, I'm interested in artificial intelligence, so I might get into that in college.
