How is it still not possible to fully backup full system image to OneDrive?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:23 AM PST

I'm about to send my Dell PC to be serviced. I thought to myself, surely, there would be an easy way to make a cloud backup in 2020. I went to the backup settings and realized that what Windows "recommended" ways are to backup your files to OneDrive or use file history to restore files. There's no modern way to backup the whole system. One can still use the Windows 7 legacy full system backup option but I can't choose OneDrive as my destination. I can't even back it up to an image file on my device and upload that later. I have to get an external device for that.

I'm wondering, has Windows gone backwards on backing up options? Why do they think that backing up files is all we need to do?

Or if I'm an idiot and completely missed an option please let me know as well!

Im booting Windows for the first time and i just get a black screen with a flash line in the corner.

After installing dropbox my computer become a mess, and now i cant access or use most programs.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:45 PM PST

So i deleted dropbox some days ago, but from that it went downhill. I tried deleting the what i thought it was a shortcut for what it was inside a created dropbox folder which deleted most of my files in desktop and download folder. Windows works, chromes works barely, but add ons dont work, photoshop works with super limited resources, other programs have similar issues, firefox does not work, others programs dont work either, is as if programs cant either get access to their files or are missing, but even when trying to reinstall such programs the programs wont work either, as if cant get acess to the files.

I tried doing a data recovery to a previous state, which i found only 1 did not worked, and did not worked that either with a reset to factory or i tried creating a flash drive and using this to do the same, but did not worked.

Any solutions or things i could do?

    thanks

Hi, when I press Alt or Alt Gr some characters get typed automatically in the field. Also when I try to alt-tab out of an app, it closes it. This is driving me mad.

I can't get Alt to type anything right now but Alt gr types this text: 3.bn-

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot!

How do I wipe my PC without admin usernames or passwords?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 04:13 PM PST

Long story short a coworker damaged our alignment machine and my boss said I could take the PC from it. I've spent the past 3 hours trying to bypass the admin usernames/passwords to factory reset the PC. It came out of a Hunter Alignment Machine running WinAlign if anyone is familiar with the system and I believe it is on Windows 7 but I'm not 100% certain on that. I've tried creating a new user to CMD past the admin protection, didn't work. I've tried hard resetting and going through notepad in the maintenance screen to access the files but I can't get the proper window to pop up. Does anyone have any advice I could use to get past this admin lock issue?

TLDR: Received used PC, has admin protections, the two ways I know how to bypass it aren't working, need to factory reset it, need advice.

A new WSL update makes it easier than ever to install Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian and Kali Linux. At this time, the installation command is only available for Windows Insiders, but will soon reach everyone.

Xbox Game Bar Suddenly Stopped Working

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:54 PM PST

I have a windows 10 computer, but every time I click WINDOWS+G in a game, it exits out of the game and says "Xbox game bar isn't supported for this game's current settings. Choosing full screen borderless in your game's video settings might do the trick" However, the xbox game bar has worked for as long as I can remember with all games, so I don't know why it suddenly can't record. I've looked everywhere, and I don't know why it just suddenly stopped working.

Watching Youtube video uses 90% CPU

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 10:03 AM PST

I've had this problem for about 2-3 weeks now. I have a Ryzen 7 3700X, an RTX 2060 Super and 32GB of RAM.

Before, I could watch 8k60 videos on youtube with no problem at all. Now, when I try to watch 8k videos, my CPU jumps to 80-90% and still, almost all of the frames are dropping and it is constantly loading (not because of my Internet, the buffer health is still full). When watching 4k60, my CPU is at around 40% utilization.

The exact same happens when I disable hardware acceleration.

All I know is shortly before (a few days before) the problem occured, I installed the latest geforce experience driver and Origin did some update. That's it, nothing else changed. And I am pretty sure that it is not the graphics drivers fault.

    • I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Google Chrome
    • I tried Firefox, same problem
    • I reinstalled the graphics driver (inside geforce experience, a week ago)
    • I've installed the latest graphics driver in geforce experience (yesterday)
    • I've completely uninstalled the graphics driver with DDU and installed a 2 month old driver
    • I uninstalled and reinstalled Origin

    Nothing helped.

    Do you have any idea?

    Malware?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 08:54 AM PST

    Hi everyone!

I'm in a bit of a panic here. I have windows 8.1. Windows Defender is running scans everyday and hasn't detected anything (no pop up) and Malwarebytes hasn't either but today I got a redirect when searching something on google stating something like " Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your network" with a captcha. It was my ip address and nothing else. Scared I went to run a Microsoft defender scan only to be met with a " preliminary scan results show that malicious or potentially unwanted software might exist" but there's no quarantined items, nothing comes up. I ran a malwarebytes (free version) scan and absolutely nothing came up, i even included rookits. I haven't installed anything or downloaded anything suspicious. I don't recall visiting any suspicious websites. I've ran multiple MD and Malwarebytes scans and none show anything. What should do?

Windows 10 minimizing every other program on screen when a program is dragged close to the top

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:23 PM PST

I have never had this issue before but this seems to happen a lot when I'm just casually trying to align my programs and windows and sometimes it will minimize all my programs when my program is dragged close to the top of my screen.

Does anyone know how to disable this? It's really annoying when you have 7 windows up and it minimizes all of them for no reason.

I have another issue where sometimes I'll drag something like a google chrome tab and for some reason instead of opening the tab in a separate window where my mouse last was it will open it in the top left corner of my screen.

How can I search only within the current page of a PDF in Acrobat Reader?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:42 PM PST

Hi, I can't believe I can't find an answer to this anywhere else so sorry if posting it in this sub is not the most appropriate/relevant.

Basically what the title says, I want to do a keyword search ONLY in a single page and not the entire document in a PDF that has thousands of pages, is that possible at all? Thanks!

I need help with mic issues.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 11:43 AM PST

When I first got my new pc the mic on my headset would never work. I asked a friend and he said it was because the headset was not made for pc. Since then I have tried multiple other kinds of headsets with mics in them and not a single one worked, I researched it and most links said to make sure the device wasn't disabled, or even just the app disabled it. I have the mic allowed on every app I have and I don't know why it is doing this. If anyone knows or could help me that would be great. Thanks!

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:04 AM PST

    Hi guys!

I tried to make a fresh install of windows on my sdd. I had ubuntu and windows on the same ssd and format it.

I've tried installing it removing one of my ram modules, in a different SSD, updated the BIOs, unplug all my peripherals and I just even changed the BIOs battery and I'm alaways stuck on that point.

PD: I've tried different media tools too...

    Can anyone please help me?

I'm trying to send the audio from my MacBook to my desktop Windows PC, mainly so I can use a headset (not wireless) that is connected to my PC to simultaneously listen to the game I'm playing on my PC (only one monitor) and the video I have playing on my MacBook. Is this possible?
