Too Many Options. Help a ThinkPad Loyalist Who Might Convert. ($800-$1000 USD) $25 Reward if Your Tip Leads to Results. Posted: 28 Nov 2020 11:00 AM PST Time to replace an old workhorse and there are Too. Many. Options. Coming from a ThinkPad T420 and use primarily for work (Office) and browsing. No gaming. Sometimes a lot of open tabs. Love the ThinkPad keyboard and am leaning toward just sticking with what I know and grabbing a T490s or X1 Carbon, but...it's also not the most exciting choice. Would like to see if there's anything comparable with a great keyboard, a nice screen that makes reading text easy, and ideally something with a black chassis--basically a less "serious" version of a ThinkPad. (Not a fan of white or silver--I really, really prefer all-black.) Do not want a touch screen or a detachable keyboard, so 2-1s are not my thing. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$800 to $1000 USD. - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Slim profile, 16 MB of RAM, battery life doesn't matter. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Around 3 lbs. is fine. Don't need anything too slim. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
13" to 15". Really don't want glossy. Prefer matte. - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
N/A - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
N/A - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Excellent keyboard a must. First priority. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
This is a really stupid rationale, but as much as I love ThinkPads, it would be nice to not spend a bunch of money to get the same type of machine I've been using for years. I'd like a change without sacrificing keyboard quality, if such a thing is possible. And yes, I will Paypal $25 to anyone who makes a suggestion that leads to a purchase, but what I'm looking for might not exist. Gonna give it a shot anyway. submitted by /u/TomTomorrow12 [link] [comments] |

Work/Book Writing Laptop Posted: 29 Nov 2020 03:54 AM PST Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: No budget more looking to have the other criteria met. My current laptop was about $1800 Lenovo ThinkPad from 2015. Are you open to refurbs/used? No, i'd like a brand new one. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I would like a performance laptop that can handle multiple simple programs open at once. Battery life is important but not the highest priority. The idea of a 2-in-1 appeals to me as i've had my eye on a microsoft surface. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not super important more after what people think is a well designed laptop. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will not be using it for gaming only word processing/presentation making and streaming. Potentially a bit of OSRS. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would like it to have USB and HDMI drives and be touch screen. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I will be traveling more with work and desire a laptop that can function at work and at home to do simple presentation editiing and writing as well as stream. Best labtop under $2000 for 4k video editing and gaming Posted: 28 Nov 2020 09:48 PM PST My main use is to edit 4k videos in premier pro, I don't use After Effect. Basically 80% the use for video editing and 20% for gaming. Games I play are just basic games like League of legends and CSGO, so not really heavy gaming tasks. But video editing must be smooth. Please help me and recommend me as many as possible. I only know PC builds not really into labtops. I've built PC twice, I know the specs and stuff. But I just don't know which brand and which labtop series offers the best. Thanks for any helps in advance. And wish everyone happy HOLIDAY!!! submitted by /u/johnsonzmsy [link] [comments] |

Looking for Budget Chromebook with Pen Posted: 29 Nov 2020 03:04 AM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Strict 40,000 JPY. -or- $400 USD (Sometimes it's cheaper to buy from US Amazon and ship it to Japan, weirdly.) Are you open to refurbs/used? Probably not How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Absolutely has to be a 2-in-1 with a stylus. $800-$1300 USD laptop for light video editing and gaming Posted: 29 Nov 2020 02:40 AM PST - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$800-$1300 USD - Are you open to refurbs/used?
No, would like it new - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
2-in-1 would be nice, but I don't really mind. Good battery life would be nice too. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
A little, would like it to be pretty thin/not bulky - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
15.6 in - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I plan to do a little bit of video editing with After Effects, but nothing too major or heavy, just basic editing. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I also want to play some games (specifically Sims 4 and Minecraft) but don't mind playing on the lowest possible settings. I do that now and it really doesn't bug me. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Fingerprint reader would be great. I also want at least i7 processor and 12gb ram, preferably upgradable. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I would also be using this laptop for everyday things since I'm a student. I don't edit every single day, maybe like once a month so I'm not too worried about wearing it out too quickly. My current laptop has an i5 processer and 8gb ram. It's not terrible for what I do, but could definitely do better. I found these that seem to fit my criteria: - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-envy-x360-2-in-1-15-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i7-12gb-memory-512gb-ssd-32gb-optane-natural-silver/6403437.p?skuId=6403437

The first two are HP Envy x360 models, and the last two are Dell Inspiron 15 models, having slight differences between them. I'm not sure if the HP Envys have upgradeable rams, though, since I might want to upgrade to 16gb at some point. But I am leaning towards that 1st one since it's significantly cheaper. submitted by /u/winko97 [link] [comments] |

Which laptop for video editing Posted: 28 Nov 2020 07:58 PM PST I primarily use Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Lightroom. (Up to 9 000 SEK, Sweden) Student looking for a new everyday laptop for gaming and multitasking Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:51 AM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
I'm looking to spend up to 9 000 SEK (Swedish crowns, roughly €980), but I'd prefer to stay around the 8 000 mark (roughly €790). Country of purchase is Sweden. - Are you open to refurbs/used?
I'm willing to buy something at an outlet or reduced price online, but only from valid stores. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance is my number 1 priority. Aside from that, I'd like a laptop that doesn't look overly 'game-y' with bold colours or outlandish designs, no touch screens or detachable keyboards please. It's okay if it looks hefty or extra compared to a 'regular' laptop, but I don't want something that looks like a spaceship. Battery life is no big concern. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Size and weight are not hugely important. I'm a student, but I do most of my work from home nowadays, though I'd still like to have the ability to bring it with me when I need to. I don't have room for a stationary computer, so this is what I'll be using as my one and only computer :) - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
My current one is 15,6'', which is my upper limit. - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I do a lot of gaming, both single and multiplayer, so I'd like to be able to run games such as Destiny 2, Borderlands 3 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla if possible. I'd like to be able to do so while running Discord and eventually Spotify as well. I also watch a lot of youtube/streams and use roll20 regularly, for those of you familiar with it. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Games listed above, but I'd like to be able to run games that come out in the coming years. I'm fine playing at any settings and resolutions if I have to. Hoping for something that will last me at least a couple years, though I'm no stranger to playing (and enjoying) games at frame rates as low as 25-30fps and lowered resolutions. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Headphone jack and touchpad is a must, and an ethernet port would be appreciated. I'm a law student which includes a lot of reading on a daily basis, so a screen that fits that purpose without making it tiring is preferred. Separate arrow keys, please (no combined up and down arrows!). As I wrote above, no touch screen or detachable keyboard please. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
This will be my workhorse for as long as I can keep it functional. The only reason I'm really switching from my current laptop (four year old ASUS K501UW-DM066T) is because of mechanical damage, but I'd like an upgrade nonetheless. Thanks for reading! submitted by /u/Balkney [link] [comments] |

How is the build quality and component quality of this "New Inspiron 15 5000 Laptop" Thanks! Posted: 28 Nov 2020 11:42 PM PST Hey guys, just want to ask if anyone knows how the build quality of this New Inspiron 15 5000 laptop is. Are the components cheap? My current laptop is going strong even after 8 years, and I'm hoping if I get this laptop, I can use it for 5+ years. so the build quality and component qualities are relatively important to me. Additionally, I read that most past Inspiron laptops were plastic, but the website says that it's "Aluminium exterior shell." What does that mean? Is everything made of aluminium? or they just do everything in plastic, and outer layer is aluminium? submitted by /u/i_cant_do_this_ [link] [comments] |

sub 900-1000USD, US Posted: 28 Nov 2020 10:12 PM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
I'm generally looking for something sub 900-1000USD, and honestly the cheaper the better. - Are you open to refurbs/used?
yes! long as it works :) - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I do art and graphic design for the most part so a 2-in-1 would be nice, but I have a graphics tablet anyways... so performance. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
I'm clumsy, so not flimsy as hell, but otherwise, I don't particularly care. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I do some light CAD on Inventor, I use Photoshop and Adobe 2020 often, and I also do some moderate gaming in the form of CS:GO, Minecraft, Valorant, LoL, and occasionally open world games like Destiny and Destiny 2. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I don't care immensely how well I can run them. I'd want more than 24 fps ideally, but I'm okay with medium settings. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Reliable build quality is important, and ideally, touch-screen/windows ink support. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I'd want something durable since I won't be able to buy a new laptop for a while, and I'd have multiple applications open due to my general workload and tendencies to have Discord, Spotify, tons of chrome tabs, and steam open in the background... something with at least 8gb ram would be nice. Obviously I recognize a good good laptop won't be attainable with such a low budget but I am able to upgrade with time, so if it's a solid base I can build on, that'd be good too. Thank you for your time! submitted by /u/capnblurple [link] [comments] |
