Dell inspiron 15 3000 windows 7 keeps going to bios menu.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:09 AM PDT

Same as in title. The boot order is right, uefi selected, also in legacy mode. Still the laptop goes to bios every time. I press f4 and f8 together and get the computer to boot correctly into windows.

Worth mentioning is that while in windows f2,f5, z, x doesn't work. I have checked it through keyboard test software. I tried disabling f2 using keyboard tweak software so that it doesn't boot to bios but it still does.

I have scanned the computer with Quick heal, Malwarebytes, rkill, adwkiller, tdss killer etc.

Also i tried rollback the driver then uninstalled the driver of keyboard then updated the driver too. But still problem doesn't go away.

I used external key board too but it still goes to boot menu.

I am not able to find anything online about this particular problem. Any help would be great.

    Wifi connection unstable

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:08 AM PDT

My laptop is giving me issues with wifi connection.

It's a Samsung laptop running Windows 10. I just switched internet providers from Xfinity to CenturyLink. I had no issues with wifi connection until we switched internet providers but all other devices in the home connect fine, CenturyLink customer support said that everything on their end was showing fine, and I logged into the modem admin and it isn't showing any obvious connection issues. We do have 5 people in the house, each using multiple devices, and we have 940 mbps.

What is happening is the laptop connects and sometimes says "No internet, secured" and sometimes says "Connected, secured", then it continously disconnects and reconnects over and over, never having actual internet connection. I have a fairly baseline understanding of computers and did the regular first steps: turning wifi on/off, computer on/off, resetting the modem, updated drives. And then I googled the issue and tried updating the power management settings, unistalled/reinstalled the network adapter, made sure the Wifi AutoConfig service startup type was automatic, tried using Google's DNS server, reset the TCP/IP configuration, and did a network reset and nothing has worked. However, the laptop will stay connected to my phone hotspot and other home wifi's just fine. So I'm unclear if it's an internet provider issue or a computer issue.

Please help! I'm running out of steam here and I just want my laptop to connect to the dang interwebs.

    Windows 10 Processor Support

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 02:01 AM PDT

I have a Dell Vostro 260s with a Sandy Bridge Intel Core i5-2400. I still run Windows 7 on it but I was wondering if I can upgrade to Windows 10. Dell doesn't officially have any drivers and Intel says that Sandy Bridge processors are unsupported but I found this. If I were to install Windows 10 1803 and install this patch, would I then have at least some drivers or support? I did see a post on r/Windows10 in July 2015 where someone successfully upgraded to Windows 10.

The only reason I am asking this is that my old Sandy Bridge processor in my old AIO would blue screen randomly in Windows 10 after a little while of use.

    Thanks

HP pavilion 14 notebook plugged in but not charging, also has CMOS issues

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 04:59 PM PDT

    Windows 8.1 64 bit operating system x 64 processor, 4096mb RAM, intel(R) core(TM) i5-4210U

I think that the laptop was bought around 2014 and used for a month afterwards. It then was unused until now.

    The CMOS

The following message has sometimes appeared upon startup.

The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will be reset to the default configuration and be rebooted. Please check your bios settings to see if they change. (502)

    Enter -reboot the system

For more information please visit www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

The computer clock is wrong, no matter how many times I correct it. The time and date was listed as 3.11pm, 22nd august, 2020 but it was actually 10.29am, 23rd august, 2020. However, after I correct it, it remains correct until I turn it off, then turn on the computer. When I turn it on, the time is the same as it was when I turned off the laptop. For example, if I turn it off at 10pm, the next time I turn it on, the clock says 10pm.

    The battery

The battery is plugged in but not charging and is 0% charged. The battery lights on the left upper and right lower sides flash white, when its on and plugged in. They remain a steady white when plugged in, but turned off.

    Solutions that I have tried

Uninstalling the battery driver and reinstalling it.

    Removing, then reinserting the battery.

HP battery check-it was unable to access the battery, said to re-insert it, second time it cancelled the test.

Turn off notebook, keep on power, press/hold windows key and B key, then hold power button at the along with the windows and B keys for 3 seconds, stop pressing the power button, keep pressing the other buttons. The BIOS then supposedly updated.

Dell Optiplex 380 SFF - Solid amber light, loudly spinning fans.

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 03:57 PM PDT

After having formatted the drive and installed Windows 10 onto my desktop (Dell Optiplex 380 SFF), i came to power it on after having set up the user account etc. and it appeared dead, a solid amber light appeared and the fans starting spinning loudly. I ran a few diagnostics, unplugged RAM, HDD and the optical and nothing changed. I then changed the CMOS battery and that didn't help either. Haven't quite yet grasped the PSU diagnostic system but the light appeared green when pressed (powered off) and green again when appearing to be running. The display doesn't pick up a signal and the keyboard/mouse aren't powered on either. Haven't changed any peripherals or added anything to the PCI ports, completely stock.

The computer was given to me by work, never used dell PC's before. Hoping someone in this group is fluent with Dell's systems.

    Cheers, Josh
