Would a factory restore be the route I want to take? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:59 PM PDT Hello, I just got a PC from my girlfriend's brother. I would like to keep the operating system it's currently on, windows 10. I'm not quite sure which OS the laptop shipped with (nor do I know how to find out). It's a Lenovo Yoga 900 (think it's from 2016/2017). I wanted to wipe the laptop clean so I don't have any files of his. What is the best method of approach? I was thinking of a factory restore but I believe that would affect the operating system. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Edit: Also, this is my first PC in like 7 years, so I'm windows illiterate. [link] [comments]
Windows 10 can't boot from the drive that it's installed on Posted: 31 Aug 2020 07:29 AM PDT so I've been running this custom pc I built up four years ago happily ever since then. lately, I got some problems but never as big as this one. yesterday I tinkered a bit with an external hard drive (moving all its stuff to my internal HDD, making both external partitions to one, and moving all the stuff back) and everything was running fine so I turned the pc off. today I started and Windows said it couldn't start and I should put in a windows installation disc/drive to repair it. was about to install win to an USB stick again but I then changed the bios boot device from my SSD (where I think windows is installed) to my HDD, expecting it to not work either but it did. now windows boots fine from my HDD where I thought there was no windows on there and doesn't from my SSD where I thought win10 was installed Update: I messed something up on the way but reinstalling win on my SSD with the HDD unplugged did it. Positive is that my system's real clean now! [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:03 PM PDT Windows 10 Pro PC, recently installed. I installed Windows 10 Pro into a new system on a brand new ADATA brand M.2 SSD. It works fine, worked with it for a couple days, installed software, rebooted several times, etc. I installed an older Samsung M.2 SSD into M.2 slot 2 to copy some work files over. When I boot with both M.2 drives installed, I get a blue screen that asks which volume I would like to boot from: Volume 2 or Volume 10. Selecting Volume 2 gets me the new Windows 10 Pro system, and selecting Volume 10 gets me my old Windows 10 Pro installation on the Samsung. Whichever drive it boots from shows up as C: and the alternate drive shows up as D:. Seems to be working perfectly. Since I was done copying my old files over, I took the D: drive out to use in another system... and the PC won't boot from C:. C: doesn't show up in my BIOS boot manager as a bootable drive. If I reinstall D: in slot 2, I can select between them again and either one is bootable. It's like adding the second M.2 drive somehow neutered my first one's boot capability, even though it was previously working fine solo. Disk Management shows C: is bootable. I am confused and curious what's my best next step, how to get C: to boot without the other M.2 installed. Here's a screenshot of my Disk Management volumes. [link] [comments]
Does anybody have the KB2533623 update for Windows 7 (x64)? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 03:10 PM PDT Looks like Microsoft decided to nuke every download link of this update from their website, if someone has an alternative link to it it would be great, thanks. The main page is still up, however if you click the links it directs you to a 404 page. The specific file I'm looking for is "Windows6.1-KB2533623-x64.msu", I already tried checking out the Windows Update database; I could only find downloads for Windows Vista, but nothing for 7. And yes, I get it, W7 is no longer supported. [link] [comments]

My password data are always deleted from ALL browsers and signed out Posted: 31 Aug 2020 08:22 PM PDT Every time I will use my pc or restart it, my accounts synced to mail always get out of date and needed to fix. also. All my saved passwords on ALL of my browsers always get deleted . The boorkmarks and browser data is still there, JUST the passwords. So I always need to sign in again I tried using different browsers and the accounts are still deleted. I tried to detect malware on defender, and there is none, tried using LAST PASS , it helped a bit. I tried checking all settings , but the saved passwords are turned on, and the settings about "deleting cookies and etc when turned off" is actually turned off. Please help me, is that a bug? virus? what should I do? [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Aug 2020 07:44 PM PDT Why can't I change the brightness anymore? It discourages me from using my laptop for work. Unlike the previous update, the brightness drag bar is gone (located in the notifications window). [link] [comments]

Looking for Windows Ink pens compatible with Dell XPS 7390 Posted: 31 Aug 2020 07:07 PM PDT Hi! I want to get a Windows Ink pen but the only one that I've found to be explicitly compatible with my 7390 2-in-1 is the Dell Premium Active Pen (PN579X), which is 95 bucks and 3.6 stars. Are there any cheaper and/or higher rated pens that are compatible with my laptop? [link] [comments]
[Windows 7] Configuring Windows Update Stuck at 35% Even In Safe Mood Boot Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:08 AM PDT Turned on my computer this morning and I got the "Configuring Windows Update" message. It got to 100% and sat there for 3 hours. I shut off the computer. Now its stuck at 35% in normal boot and in Safe Mode. I can't get to the desktop in any boot format. Any ideas on what I can do? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 02:48 PM PDT Hi Everyone, Looking for a little help here. I am a good little user on latest stable Win 10 release and run a non-priv account for day to day work and an administrative account for installing apps etc etc. It's all standalone in terms of environment. Currently, in order to get an administrative command prompt (for example to run disk manager) I keep having to navigate through the menus, right click on "Run as administrator". How do I do this with a desktop shortcut ? I realise you can do win+x, PowerShell admin prompt but this isn't what I want to achieve. Regards ETA: Answer is at https://www.cnet.com/how-to/always-run-a-program-in-administrator-mode-in-windows-10/ [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Aug 2020 03:39 PM PDT Anyone know how to scroll the desktop to the right in Windows 10? In previous versions of windows, if an app was partially off the screen to the right, you could move the mouse to the far right of the desktop, and the desktop would scroll to the right. But that doesn't seem to be possible in Windows 10. Anyone know if it's possible, and, if so, how? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Aug 2020 11:50 AM PDT Long story short: Bought a PC from someone They didn't delete their account / wipe everything before selling it to me I made my own account and then deleted his account (he had activated windows) Now I'm just confused as to how I'm supposed to activate windows. It says it can't connect to my organization's activation server. Edit: Shit, I'm pretty sure it's just change the product key right? Just saw that in settings under "activate windows now" [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Aug 2020 01:50 PM PDT I have recently bought a computer from my brother-in-law which previously had windows 10 installed on it. I know because the sticker with the product key is still on the side. I did not however purchase the ssd that had windows installed onto it. All the internals are currently the same (soon i will be replacing my HDD with an SSD and getting a new gpu). Do I need to buy another Windows Key, or can I use the old one? Thank you for your time! Play on two different devices through different ports. Posted: 31 Aug 2020 01:31 PM PDT Hi guys So I bought a new Trust Soundbar because my other two speakers weren't working anymore. The subwoofer of the first set still works fine though, so I really want to be able to play sound trough the subwoofer ánd the soundbar. Both have 3.5 AUX-jacks and I have enough ports. The problem is windows itself, I can't find out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated, I wouldn't mind downloading extra software, if that's a solution. Note: I don't mean that windows media player 'hack', I want to use it for ALL audio. Windows 7 by the way. [link] [comments]
Desktop in C:\Users is different from Desktop in ThisPC/Desktop Posted: 31 Aug 2020 12:55 PM PDT I had OneDrive installed and I think it messed with this, but I uninstalled it now - I never used OneDrive. It is somewhat annoying, as some applications go to the C:\users desktop which then gets lost as it doesn't show up in the "main" desktop. Does anyone how to fix this? I did some google searching and found nothing [link] [comments] |
