When do you estimate a Tiger-lake/Ryzen 4000 XPS 13 would hit the market? If I'm looking for a laptop now, should I wait?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 11:25 AM PDT

I'll also mention that I'm in India, so I expect a roughly one month delay before the laptop hits our shores.

My current laptop is running decently, and I'm not in a hurry to buy, but looking to understand the timescales here.

What to get, what to get...

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:38 AM PDT

I'm starting a computer science program in the spring and I need to update my current laptop (HP Pavillion Notebook) to something new, since mine is on its last leg.. i was thinking about getting a Lenovo Yoga C930.. i definitely want something with enough power to fit me through the program and enough life to get me through and beyond the program.. would the Lenovo Yoga C930 be a good option? Or is there a better option? I'm trying to keep the price tag AROUND $1,000... Thanks in advance!

    How good are gaming laptops?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 01:25 PM PDT

Hey everyone! So it's time for a new laptop and was wondering if gaming laptops are good for uni and video editing? The laptop would mainly be used for uni stuff (note taking, essays, etc) but I would love to be able to play some COD with it and I also do video editing for YouTube (simple videos really). Does anyone have any laptops that they would suggest or what kind of specs to look for? Thank you for your help!

Broken WiFi card. How to replace?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 01:23 PM PDT

I own an Asus vivobook pro 15.

Honestly it's a solid piece of tech but there has always been some downsides that I had to just ignore.

The number 1 thing has always been the WiFi card being weak as shit even tho it's an 802.11ac card which I thought was new at the time and the best. (The range is DOODOO)

Fast forward I think 3-4 years and the WiFi card no matter the restart or driver's won't the detect DNS but can connect ISP. This has been a problem at random times but now it just won't detect anything.

I have already bought a WiFi adapter that's also 802.11ac but it sorta bulky and I guess I also want my laptop to be able to function on its own.

So I've never taken apart a laptop and really want to sort out this WiFi card problem. Anyone with tips?

    Thanks in advance

I am either getting the ASUS ZenBook UX325JA 13.3 which has 512 gb of storage or the ASUS ZenBook UX434FLC 14 which has the trackpad touch screen but only 256 gb of storage. I am going to be using the laptop for school work, a few games and movies. Can anyone suggest which one.

Lenovo Thinkpad T14s (Amd) or Asus Zenbook 14 (Amd)

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 12:05 PM PDT

I will be attending Uni soon and as many people on here I am looking for a laptop. I only need it for office and browsing, maybe a bit of light gaming but I do intend to keep it for as long as possible. I managed to narrow it down to these two, I will be listing the price and the pros and cons for me.

Lenovo T14s Amd: I got a good student deal for 1400 Euros, this model includes the 8-core, 16-thread ryzen model with 32gb of ram(pretty overkill I know), a 1 tb ssd and the 400nit-screen. Compared to the Asus model it has more ports (e.g. an ethernet port or the option to include a sim card which I do appreciate), a better cpu and ram and probably a better keyboard. I would definetly spec it with the 3-year damage warranty and other warranty which will bring up the total cost to 1500 Euros.

    https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series/ThinkPad-T14s-AMD-G1/p/22TPT144SA2

Asus Zenbook UM425IA-HM067: This would cost me around 929 Euros(also a student deal). It has a 6-core, 6 thread Ryzen with 16gb of Ram and 512gb of ssd storage and also a 400nit screen. Compared to the lenovo the screen has a better colour accuracy and also the battery is bigger. I have the option to upgrade its standard 2-year warranty to 3 years for about 50 Euros.

if you intend to check the specs on the Asus model here is the link to the website where I buy it from, unfortunately it is in german. If you wish to do so simply click on "Datenblatt". https://www.campuspoint.de/asus-edu-zenbook-14-um425ia-hm067.html

I should note that both do not have Windows pre-installed but installing it should be no problem for me since i already did it a couple of times.

Thanks for taking your time ladies and gentlemen!

    Problems with ram

I've been having problems with ram on my new laptop I recently got for school. It says it has 8gb ram but only 5.88 usable and with all the preinstalled apps I'm really only able to use 3gb ram. How do I fix this?

    Planning on getting an asus

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:40 AM PDT

I'm planning on buying a new laptop, and the best my budget can afford is around 500$. Im stuck between Asus VivoBook 15 X504UA and Asus FX 570zd-dm329t.(I think this one is more expensive baround 800$)

I'm planning on using it in studies as well as gaming (I play league of legends). I just want advice, is vivobook 15 x504ua worth it? Will it run a videogame smoothly without consequences ? Or should I go with the FX 570zd ?
