How to force uninstall programs? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 08:14 PM PDT Hello, I recently acquired a pc previously used for gaming from a friend. I've been a Mac guy since 2013 and this is my first time having windows since 7. I can honestly say I'm pretty impressed, and while I don't care for the start menu and a few other things, it is a nice change up from Mac OS. I've ran into an issue. I'm trying to uninstall everything this guy had on here. I'm in the programs and features tab in the control panel and have ran into no issues. However, when I try to uninstall battle.net, call of duty modern warfare, and hearthstone, it brings up the screen asking if I'm sure I want to uninstall, and when I click yes nothing happens. The first time I tried this with battle.net it shown all of the files being deleted but it still shows the app in my window. If anyone knows what to do about this or a way to get rid of this, please let me know. Honestly I think these games are very stupid and have zero interest in them taking up space on my hard drive. Windows install with BOOTMGR missing Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:35 PM PDT I'm trying to reinstall Windows on a laptop. The recovery disks are useless. The system keeps on requesting Disk 5 when there are only 4. When I start the system I get the error message below. BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart I've tried these in CMD without any success. bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /scanos bootrec /rebuildbcd I've tried to boot Windows 10 ISO from USB and sometimes get this error message. Invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key When the system was finally able to read the USB and gave me a menu it wasn't able to complete the installation. Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007025D What are my options to get the laptop working again ? [link] [comments]
"Windows has detected a problem and needs to restart" but then works fine, should I worry? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 12:37 PM PDT So I've had the blue screen of death before and I know that this is the set up for it, but so far my PC is working just fine after the restart. I was playing watch dogs 2 when the game abruptly stopped to the blue screen before restarting normally to no issues. What I'm asking is, is there need for concern and if so what should I be checking to make sure nothing happened. Edit: I found out it was caused fully by Ntoskrnl.exe not sure exactly why but I'm researching now [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 04:12 PM PDT I just built a PC and it booted up just fine but when I was installing windows 10, I got the black screen of death with a cursor. I can hear Cortana talking but can't see or do anything. I've looked up fixes but they've all been for once windows has initially been installed and you get the black screen after logging in. When I reboot, same thing. Ctrl-alt-del does nothing. I'm at my wits end. I hope someone can help me [link] [comments]
Can I log DNS request going out of my windows machine? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 03:28 PM PDT I want to monitor network connections for a while for some apps and create custom blocklists and hosts files. Do you guys know any apps that help you see the outbound requests? I dont need anything fancy. Just the DNS names must be shown. Thank you [link] [comments]
Games for Windows made from the late 1990s to the early 2010s that are genuinely fun for anyone. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 03:10 PM PDT Would appreciate suggestions. Genre doesn't matter but I'd like it to be good for YouTube content. [link] [comments]

How to force a program to be saveable in only 1 location? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 07:01 AM PDT Hi guys, Ill try and keep this as short as possible. So I work in a warehouse where we scan order numbers in a notepad file. Thing is people keep saving it in the wrong map. So my supervisor asked if I could find a way to make these notepad files only saveable in 1 map. Ive been googling but I can only find out how to change the default save location. Is there a way to force the notepad application files to be saveable in only 1 map? (This map is a one drive map) Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Can you safely reinstall Windows with an offline drive? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:15 PM PDT Got a SSD for my laptop. I'm cloning right now, but since my almost not even 6 month old is taking like 6 minutes for a full boot (up to a point it's actually usable) it would be better to do some reinstalling... Since I'm already cloning, I can finally do a format and have a full backup. If I take my HDD offline (in the partitions manager) and make a clean install... will it affect in any way the disconnected drive or I should physically take it off? [link] [comments]
Unique Kmode not handled situation Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:03 PM PDT HP Desktop Kmode not handled-help please! Hey guys I'm in a unique situation. I have an HP pavilion 595-p0074, the tower has the funky geometry on the front. Anyway my mother gave me this pc recently, she bought it new and was surprised with another pc from my Dad. She kept that one and gave me the HP so I could have an easier time 3d printing. So last night I turn it on, blue screen of death loop. Here's the issue, I looked into all sort of ways to fix this but they all require administrator account. I don't have my mom's password for the account and she gave me all her passwords and none worked. I can't even factory reset. Is there ANY work around? Can't use safe mode, can't use USB with a safe start up file, can't reset to an earlier time, can't command prompt. They all require a password to her windows account. [link] [comments]

Desktop display of multiple clocks Posted: 24 Jun 2020 12:48 PM PDT I have some friends in different parts of the globe, and thought it might be handy to have a little section on the top of the desktop that's got a few different clocks running. Local time, Pacific, Zulu, whatever. I seem to recall having such a widget on an old Vista machine I had back in the day, but I can't seem to find anything like that now. Does anyone where I could find another doodad like that, or is my Google-fu too weak? [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:30 AM PDT So... after countless hours of work, we managed to pull a video about Mac vs Windows. I'ts a meme/shitpost video-animation, and I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it! Feel free to leave a like, took a lot of effort to do this :D [link] [comments]
Runtime broker .exe - multiple instances Posted: 24 Jun 2020 07:18 AM PDT Hi All, Of late my laptop's battery performance has taken a sharp dip. While looking at the processes running, I noticed a lot of "runtime broker .exe"s running. Can someone tell me what this is? And also any hacks for improving battery life? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 needs a startup sound! Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:01 AM PDT I'm about to make the switch from Windows 7 to 10. My laptop will still be running 7 but my main PC will be running 10. I found that whenever I used it and booted up a system, it never felt complete. A new distinct startup sound that greets users when entering the system by default would make the OS feel a bit more complete. That's just my thought. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 10:18 AM PDT If you know Macrium well and have used it to set up a dual boot, then I seek your feedback and tips! This is my plan: Have: # 250 GB Samsung SSD installed on laptop with partitions: 1.17GB system, 221.95 GB W7 Ultimate, 9.76 GB Recovery # New 1TB Western Digital Blue SSD #Macrium image of 250 GB Samsung SSD with partitions: 1.17GB system, 198.66 GB W10, 9.76 GB Recovery. This was a clean W10 install on the same laptop and was imaged before going back to W7 Ultimate (due some apps not working well with W10) What I want to do: Dual boot W7 U and W10 2004. Have boot menu be modern W10 GUI rather than old style W7 boot menu. 10 year old laptop so this will be legacy boot. Plan: 1) Using Macrium clone, the existing 250 GB Samsung SSD with W7U to the new 1TB WD SSD. Remove Samsung SSD and install the new 1TB WD SSD. 2) Create 2 additional partitions. One for W10 and the other for Data only (to be shared between OS'). Planning for 200GB for W10 and remainder for Data Only. 3) Use Macrium Boot Repair (USB) to create proper boot menu. 4) Change boot order to W10 first using the following command. https://www.tenforums.com/installation-upgrade/28914-how-change-boot-ui-back-modern.html Licenses: # W7 installation is OEM W7 Pro upgraded to W7 Ultimate # W10 2004 image resulted from failed upgrade from W7 U to W10 2004. I then clean installed to the same Samsung SSD and it worked fine. As stated above, old programs that would not run properly on W10 caused me to go back to W7 (by restoring an image of the drive using a Windows image and the W7 repair utility rather than MAcrium). Question: Will MSFT require activation of W10 again? Not let me run W7 U? If W10 activation becomes issue, can I use a W8 Upgrade Key I bought years ago but didn't use? I also have a no longer used XPP key. This was used to upgrade XP Home but that laptop is out of use. [link] [comments]
Is there any program to track time spend on other programs? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:28 AM PDT My brother has an issue with Fortnite and spends almost all his time on it. I've been there too so I understand what he is going through, but I want him to think about the time he spends. For this I would really like a program that tracks time spend on programs so at the end of the day he can see how much time he spend on Fortnite, Chrome(Youtube), etc. I hope that seeing 6+ hours a day would help him reflect about his actions. I've also been using Linux full time for 2 years so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to Windows. Does anyone know of a program that does what I need? Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments]
