    A thank you to OnePlus

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:22 AM PDT

In November 2015, my Google Nexus bit the dust unexpectedly. As a uni student with zero savings, I was massively panicking about being able to find a phone that could keep up with my teenage demands that wouldn't break the bank- at which point I was very fortunate to meet someone who had just got a phone from a new Chinese brand nobody had ever heard of. "It's super fast and really cheap but you can only get one if you know someone else who has one, they're just about to release a new model and I can give you a code"- this sounded super dodgy at the time but I was pretty desperate, so pre-ordered the Oneplus 2 for £300.

Four and a half years later, this phone has accompanied me through countless highs and lows of life, surviving hundreds of drops without so much as a single dead pixel- without doubt the best performing phone I have ever had. If anything can compete with the build quality of the old Nokias, it's this bad boy. The battery still lasts pretty much a full day and the only reason I'm replacing it is because most apps are becoming incompatible with Android 6 so the running speed is really suffering.

OnePlus has truly changed the smartphone landscape and it was fantastic to have so many mid range options to chose from when buying a successor (unfortunately I'm still strapped for cash so the new OP models were outside my budget). They continue to set the standard for some of the best value for money in the Android scene and I hope that my next phone can be back with the cleanliness of OxygenOS!

Also big thanks to everyone in this community, your help and expertise over the years has been really beneficial and I look forward to following how this brand and community grows over the next few years. Never Settle!

All I want is a flat phone with a pop-up camera.

    OP7P Open Beta questions

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:04 PM PDT

For those using the most recent Beta on the 7 Pro I have a few questions:

    1) When the next major OS (A11) comes out do you get a beta for that before stable or do you have to upgrade to stable?

    2) How has battery life been compared to stable? Some context on this is I had great battery on 10.3.2 then on 10.3.3 it's not great.

Planning on repairing OP7 Pro myself. Replacing screen and battery.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:33 PM PDT

Thinking of going with this: https://www.witrigs.com/oem-screen-replacement-with-frame-for-oneplus-7-pro-nebula-blue as it has the frame with the screen already attached. The battery I plan on getting from https://www.witrigs.com/oem-battery-for-oneplus-7-pro too as it's OEM and only $8.80.

I've replaced a screen twice on an LG V20 before and I figured I'd give this a shot as the horror stories from OP service scare me. I'll just go slow and stay organized and I don't think I'll have many issues. Let me know if you've done this repair before and have any suggestions. Thanks

Is there anyway to change the way folders look on oxygen os, like maybe changing the cover or the 4x4 grid displayed on the folder.

    A positive OnePlus support post.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 08:17 AM PDT

I see OnePlus receives a lot of flack on here for their customer support or warranty team. I just wanted to post about a positive experience I had.

Anyways. My son had damaged my charging cable for my 8 Pro. I wasn't aware of this until partially through my chat with OnePlus support. ( He plugged it into playdoh, which then it dried up inside )

I contacted support because the website didn't list any cables where the description stated it offered the warp charging for the 8 pro so I was confused and just wanted to purchase a new cable once I realized the damage.

The rep kept asking me a bunch of troubleshooting questions and was requesting pictures , which was beginning to annoy me because I repeatedly asked for a link so I can purchase the cable that's meant for the 8 pro and I even informed them that it doesn't appear to be a warranty issue and is damage that was caused unbeknownst to me.

Again the rep requested pictures . I was getting more frustrated because my question of providing a link for me to buy kept getting ignored. Eventually I gave in and provided pictures showing my damage of inside the cable.

The rep comes back and advises that they are sending me out a new cable at no cost to me.

I'm not sure why this exception was made as I didn't once request it, maybe it's due to the lack of description on the website for said cable or what.

Just thought I'd share my positive experience with support since this company seems to get a bad rep for their service and we only ever hear about the negative experiences on here.

Still loving my OP7 a year later

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:47 AM PDT

I bought a OP7 last July and I can't believe that the phone is just under a year old. It still feels just as fast and the design doesn't feel outdated. The edge to edge screen combined with the in-screen fingerprint reader makes feel more futuristic than some iPhones that have been recently released. People are still impressed when they see that my fingerprint reader is under the screen, despite the phone having come out a year ago. I don't know much about their more recently released phones, but I think OP have done a great job and when I need to buy another phone, it will probably be another OP. Thanks for reading :)

App icons missing in app drawer

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 03:55 PM PDT

Hey all, I bought my OnePlus 7 Pro a few months back now and it's all up to date with Android, Play Store and OnePlus updates, but the last week or so I've noticed a few apps no longer appear in the app drawer. If I swipe up briefly and hold it bring me to the categories view and I can see them in there weirdly, just not in the all apps view. Mainly its the Scrabble GO app I'm missing, but pretty sure there are a few more MIA. Thoughts?

Premier Rush Pro Isn't Compatible with OnePlus 8 Pro

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 01:01 PM PDT

Why is Premier Rush not compatible with my OnePlus 8 Pro? It works on my other Samsung Galaxy A50 but doesn't on OP8P despite it being superior?

I charge my OnePlus 8 with smaller topups (30% to 40% increase in one charge), is that detrimental to battery or is it better?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:58 AM PDT

So I'm at home at all times and read that keeping the battery between 40 to 80 helps the battery lifespan. I've had terrible battery experience with the iPhone SE (2016) and don't want my battery to degrade like that. And now, since I can afford to do it, I'm only charging to 80% unless I plan to go out. I wanted to ask if it's infact better for the battery life or worse if I charge my phone like this. I do know that getting a battery replacement is a lot better than babying your battery a lot, especially since a battery replacement cost $20+service+tax. But since I can do it, why not?

Bullet wireless Z or JBL 115BT

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:32 PM PDT

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Is Bullet Wireless Z overpriced ($50) comparing with the quality of it's sound/call quality and overall ?

What are the alternatives based on sound and call quality ? (Eg : JBL, Anker Soundcore, RealMe, Xiaomi or anyother )

When is dual sim going to be activated on the Oneplus 8?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 03:02 PM PDT

I found out after purchasing the Oneplus 8 that dual sim isn't currently available for the US unlocked model.

Does anyone know when they're going to fix this? Dual sim is one of the main reasons I use oneplus phones.

    Wifi password issue

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:56 PM PDT

I'm unable to connect my phone to my home wifi as it keeps telling me my password is correct. I have not changed my password, and nothing else in the house has any issues. I have the phone up to date with system update. Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Phone block list blocking numbers that aren't in it

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:24 PM PDT

I tried to get amazon phone support today and apparently the phone is blocking the number that calls me, 2069220880.

It shows up in the dialer as a missed red call. It shows up in the spam call log. It is not in the blacklist.

This is the only number that has been an issue. I am using the Pixel dialer framework and the OnePlus phone app is sort of just "here" because I can't seem to get rid of it without causing an issue.

Will OnePlus listen if I'll ask them to improve something that's bothering me with the software?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:25 PM PDT

There are actually lots of things I would love to see improve. These are small things, but it's these small things that make a difference.

Some of the things I thought of:

    1) When you receive notification and the screen is closed, there's a "Horizon light" on the sides of the screen. The problem is- If the device is facing down and auto-brightness is on, the "Horizon light" is so dim, you don't see it reflecting off the sides.

    2) You can't select multiple apps at the same time on the home screen, and that makes the home screen's customization a pain

    3) It'll be nice to have access to the lock screen shortcuts and change them. (currently, there's Google assistant on the left and Camera on the right)

    4) Allow the "swipe down with 2 fingers" feature (to access full notification shade) to work also on the home screen, and not just from the top of the screen

    5) Show recently used apps on the first row of the app drawer, instead of the last apps I searched (which is a kind of dumb- if I searched an app it's because I don't use it often and I don't remember where it is in the app drawer)

A few questions before I more than likely buy a OP8 Pro tomorrow

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 09:49 AM PDT

Currently I have a Exynos Note 10 with a cracked screen and it has started to get on my nerves so I'm more than likely going to buy a 8 Pro from amazon UK tomorrow but I have a few questions before I definitely make up my mind.

    1) I had a OP3 and it would never keep connection to my android Wear watch whilst other phones did so with no problems. Are there any known issues with wear watches at the moment?

    2) I read someone from the USA mention that the dual sim was not activated. Is this just a USA thing? Will I be OK with dual sims in the UK?

    3) what is amazon UK return policy like if I get a few dodgy screens that need replacing? Are they likely to say no?

    4) what are the 3 settings for the notification slider and is it customisable? I remember when I had my OP3 they changed what the different options did and I ended up hating it. I'd prefer normal volume, vibrate only and Do not disturb.

    5) I know that I'll miss the AOD and you should never buy something on the promise of a future update so are there any good apps that replicate this? I've seen one but it has mixed reviews.

    6) is there any caller id for numbers that aren't saved in my phone. E.g. If a business phones me on a pixel and to a lesser extent a Samsung will tell me the name of that business and will also report spam calls.

    7) if I use the gcam mod can this be set to my default camera app when double pressing the lock button?

    Many thanks!
