Music production Laptop. Which one??? Posted: 22 Jun 2020 10:20 PM PDT Had an Inspiron. Pretty good still latency issues and artifacts coming thru when I lowered bit rate to record. So I figured I needed a better computer CPU processor wise. The Inspiron I had was i7 16 RAM and the processor base was 1.8. Now I have narrowed my choices down to 4. If I could spend a little less, cool although not really an issue. Won't mind spending extra hundred dollars for quality here and there. So here are the options. Dell G5 i7 6 core processor 2.6ghz base speed 16GB RAM expandable to 32GB 2666 mghz speed 1TB HDD 256 SSD 2 memory slots HP OMEN AMD 4th gen Ryzen 7, 8 core processor 2.9 ghz 4800H 16GB RAM 3200 mghz 1 TB SSD 2 memory slots ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS AMD 4th gen Ryzen 7, 8 core processor 2.9 ghz 4800HS 16GB RAM expandable 32GB 3200 mhz 1 TB SSD 1 memory slot HP OMEN 10th gen i7, 6 cores 2.6 ghz 16GB RAM 3200 mhz 512 SSD 32 GB OPTANE 2 memory slots They all seem good but maybe I'm looking at some of the numbers wrong. In general I just want a fast computer for handling many applications like plugins and VST's without latency and taking up so much CPU. This advice can really help me take my productions to the next level. Thanks in advance. Probably gonna buy one of these by this weekend. If you can sell me on it, it would be awesome lol. Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:55 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1500 max, might spend a little more for the right fit. Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I know gaming laptops come in the two form factors, "normal" and then the thin and light, which generally use the Max-Q gpu's. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not that vital, don't want a thick laptop though weighing as much as a desktop. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I would prefer 15", perfect size, not too small nor too big. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Looking to run games, some light photoshop as a hobby. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Looking to play new titles on high/ultra, 1080 and as high fps as possible. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Only want a decent keyboard. Backlit would be nice, doesn't have to be individual keys though. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I would like a 2070 laptop, that gpus fits my needs perfectly. I believe the 2080 is overkill for 1080p, and the 2070 super is most likely out of my price range. I would love to get a laptop with amd's 4800h, but I hear conflicting things online, some say 2060 is the max they'll get, other sources say 2070's are due out later. Razerblades seem to get amazing reviews, but again they are pricey, even for used ones. The Tuf 15 seems to be a decent budget gaming laptop, but it seems to run hot. From what I can gather, the Max Q's run quieter, cooler and are thinner. But, you are sacrificing some performance because of that vs a normal gpu. They also tend to be a little more expensive as they are thinner. I'm keeping my eye out on hardwareswap, and slickdeals for anything upcoming. Thanks for all your help guys! [link] [comments] |

Does anyone know about Sager (Clevo) laptops? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 03:49 AM PDT I've been looking for a laptop with at least 1660 ti, 16gb ram, a good Ryzen, and a 120/144z screen. I was looking at the Asus Tuf A15 but it has been out of stock for about well over a month now and I'm worried about the airflow and the screen. I found this laptop with the specs I want but I can't seem to find a lot of information about the laptop or brand. https://xoticpc.com/products/sager-np7958c-clevo-nh58ac?_pos=5&_sid=00d3d7f98&_ss=r Any advice or other laptop recommendations that meet the specs listed would be much appreciated! Posted: 22 Jun 2020 07:59 PM PDT What do you guys think about the 2020 models of Nitro 5 and Tuf a15 abd how do they compete against each other I would buy the Tuf a15 but the thermals and screen are not that good as compared to nitro 5. The screen on tuf a15 with lower color gamut and greater response time ruins the experience and the temperature according to some YouTubers gets 100 degree Celsius range. Also if you get the base model of tuf a15 with 1650 you get shit cooling internals Nitro 5 is still not yet reviewed properly by YouTubers . I'm still waiting for it. From what I've seen the thermal's have improved from last year and the screen is better than that if tuf a15. I don't know about the nitro 5 and it's problems but i know about tuf a15 and it's problems giving me doubts like this. If someone knows about nitro 5 all models with pricing help me out here fellas.I hope nitro 5 doesn't have problems like tuf a15. [link] [comments] |
Animation student looking for affordable 2in1 laptop Posted: 23 Jun 2020 03:27 AM PDT Budget is around £700-£800 (GBP), preferably would want a new laptop. Longer battery life would be good, as well as being fairly lightweight and portable. Will need to be able to run photoshop as well as other adobe programmes and Maya + AutoCad. 14" screen would be the best. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2020 03:24 AM PDT I spent the last few days looking for a relatively laptop that can run somewhat demanding games like the Witcher 3 on a lower graphics setting. My quest ended with two results: the Acer Aspire 5 A315-43G and the HP 240 G7 6HL15EA. Which one do you think is the better choice? The former has an AMD Ryzen 5 and an AMD RadeaOn RX 540X, while the latter is equipped with an Intel Core I5-8250u and an Intel UHD Graphics 620. So does at least one of these meet my demands? If so, which one? If neither, do you have something in the price range that would work out better? I've done some research, but I'm a total layman, so all input is much appreciated. A laptop that is very durable, reliable, decently powerful and travels well. Posted: 23 Jun 2020 03:24 AM PDT So the budget I'm aiming for is $500-1500. Higher end of that price range for something that is "worth" it in terms of durability, expected lifespan, etc. Since I'll travel with it often, I hope the hard drive will be SSD in order to prevent damage from moving parts that sometimes involve HDDs. Ideally 200-500gb of SSD storage? A general purpose of laptop that won't be used for high-end gaming, but hopefully will be able to handle most of anything that will come my way. I'd like to highlight the emphasis on durability; not exactly looking for water-proof since that can be handled by bag/cover/sleeve, but hopefully it can take a few drops/vibrations from being in a backpack walking or perhaps even running around. The "thinness" of a laptop is actually not a primary concern, if bulkiness of a laptop is justified. Hopefully the model will be reliable and "proven", and not prone to faulty parts/manufacturing issues. I have been thinking of a XPS 13, but what do you think? P.S. A long battery life would be nice as well; prioritizing mobility and durability here. Thank you for your help and time! [link] [comments] |
A $2000 laptop for programming Posted: 22 Jun 2020 09:09 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: Northen Europe, can ship from US for ~+10%. $2000. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I would like 2 in 1 but I would like a touchscreen. I need good battery life How important is weight and thinness to you? Not super important, anything under 2.5kg (5.5lbs) is just great. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. I'll use Windows 10. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I prefer a 15.6", although I like the 14" ones too. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will be used for programming and running a virtual machine at the same time. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Don't need to run high res Fortnite at 60fps for sure, but still need somewhat decent GPU. Any specific requirements such as a good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? - Need good keyboard, not soft touch. - Good, sensitive touchpad, that doesn't collect too much oil - Nice build quality, with cover that doesn't collect too much oil - HDMI port, SD card port -Needs fingerprint reader or facial recognition. - Don't need CD drive, thunderbolt ports. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. So in terms of the overall build, I was thinking of these specs:- 32gb ram - 500Gb or 1Tb SSD PCIe, no spinning HDD's and no hybrids, no non-PCIe SSDs. - 8th gen i7 or an i9. - A dedicated GPU on the mid to high range level - Display can be 1080p or 4k, I don't really mind. - Touch display is a must. - Well built heat pipes, good heat isolations, good ventilation, overall controllable temp's. - No chin camera, built-in camera is needed. - A respectable wifi card, preferably dual-band. - And lastly, a reputation for good customer service and a nice warranty. I'm currently thinking of Asus Zenbook pro duo, but perhaps someone knows where to get it cheaper or a better alternative? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a new gaming/CAD laptop. Posted: 22 Jun 2020 09:04 PM PDT I have a Dell Inspiron 5577. Intel Core i7-7700HQ , 2.8GHz. 8gigs of 2400MHz ram. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 At the minimum I would like an improvement on the graphics card and ram. Weight and thickness or not that important to me but not completely forsaken. Preferred screen size is 15"-18". I will be doing light CAD work in inventor and revit. It will mostly be used for gaming. I play fallout and elder scrolls titles, destiny 2, doom, and many CoD games. I would like to run all of these at at least 60fps and up to 100+ at 1080p. I've also been having problems with storage so the more the better. My hard budget is $1500 USD. But I would like to have a little left over if something can get accomplished with less. Thanks! Posted: 22 Jun 2020 10:54 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: up to 1500 USD. Are you open to refurbs/used? I'm open to anything I can purchase online from an official retailer (Amazon, Best Buy etc) How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build quality is all I care about honestly. How important is weight and thinness to you? I found that the Acer Predator Helios 300 I previously owned (5.6 pounds/2.5kg) would sometimes get uncomfortable to have on my chest after extended periods of time, so there is a slight concern about weight, but it is mostly insignificant Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Game: Path of Exile, Nox App Player If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want to be able to comfortably run both Path of Exile and Nox roughly a combined 16hrs a day at bare minimum settings at around 30-40fps, willing to underclock etc to achieve this Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Apart from the above, I need something with a somewhat sturdy shell, I've had a history of loosening screens or even breaking hinges. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Lifespan for the price is the most significant aspect of my purchase, it's really important that 10 years from now etc. my combined cost for laptop repairs and replacements is at it's minimum, I say I'm looking for a gaming laptop, but really, as long as it's something tough that can handle extensive use for the longest time possible is my goal. Data Science and Programming student, Acer Swift 5, Dell Inspiron 15 or HP? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 02:27 AM PDT I currently have an Acer Aspire 5, it's only a couple of years old at most and for the most part runs fine for general browsing. Occasionally it just shuts down without warning and I can't have that happen as I am going to begin studying online this year which means online exams, which means if my computer keeps crashing mid exams, I could face some serious backlash. If anyone has any input on what I actually need in a computer to study data science and information technology (with some self taught machine learning on the side) that would be greatly appreciated. Even though I may not need an ultra powerful computer, there's some good deals on at the moment due to it being the end of financial year and if I'm going to be spending the money, I want to get something that will be able to last me the next 3 years minimum. First laptop I found is an Acer Swift 5 10th Gen i7, 1x16gb Ram, Iris Graphics and 512gb SSD for $1498(down for $1998). Big bonus going for this one is the ability to pay it off over 10 weekly installments of $100 after paying $500 initially. Second is the Dell inspiron 5000 10th Gen i7, 2x8gb Ram, Iris Graphics and 512gb SSD for $1,258(down from $2098). Is there any reason to not go for this laptop with almost identical specs that is over $200 cheaper? And through my university I get an extra 5% off all dell products so its closer to $1200. Last is the HP 15 (doesnt have a model name?) For $1499(no sale though). It's from the same place as the first laptop so I can pay the first $500 and pay it off over 10 weeks again. It's an AMD Ryzen 7, 1x16gb Ram, 512 gb SSD and Radeon RX Vega 10. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 23 Jun 2020 02:14 AM PDT I am not a gamer but sometimes play random games with my husband. I always have to play mine on the low system settings (it's also very slow) and sometimes the laptop I have just exits the game itself due to god knows what reason. So I'm looking for one that will be able to process what is being done and work fast. I'm not interested in trying to make my current laptop better and wasting that time or money. I would actually prefer (but doesn't have to be limited to) it not to look like a gamer laptop, it can even be a normal laptop but I know they don't always run things as well. Please recommend laptops you find are efficient, normal - fast paced and worth the purchase. [link] [comments] |
