- Microsoft really should bring back its Surface 'table coffee' on the game
- I was a hardcore Windows fan before Windows 10. But the glitchy and inconsistent UI in Windows 10 on top of every feature upgrade forcing me to reformat my hard drive due to BSOD etc. made me switch to macOS as a daily driver a couple years back. Microsoft has a lot of work to do...

I'm Going Nuts - Adaptive brightness Posted: 23 Jun 2020 04:11 PM PDT To make this simple Adaptive brightness is off (registry, intel control panel, option not showing up in power options. This all started today. It sucks. I am on an Acer laptop. The problem only occurs when my laptop is plugged in. When it's on battery it works fine. Every time I open Adobe After Effects it dims instantly. It is so annoying. If you have any idea on how to fix this please let me know. [link] [comments]
Windows 10 Update Stuck Rebooting Posted: 23 Jun 2020 04:15 PM PDT My computer has been stuck rebooting while trying to update. It'll be updating normally, with the screen saying that the computer will restart multiple times during the update process. At a certain point, it will seem like it's about to reboot, but then just shut down. If I turn the computer back on, it'll begin undoing any changes made. Any ideas what's going on? Dell Laptop camera & remote desktop connection Posted: 23 Jun 2020 02:58 PM PDT I'm trying to get a dell laptop camera to work over remote desktop. I've got everything configured to get an external USB camera working. Here's what we have.
When users connect, they open zoom for meetings. When an external camera is connected, things work fine. When they try to use the internal camera, it doesn't work. It shows up as an option but no video. I'm hoping someone can point me to a fix. Any ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Will I still have windows 10 that isn’t activated after a reset? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 01:11 PM PDT I want to do a reset on my pc to help it run a bit better. I was going to do the reset that kept files but deleted apps and settings. But then I saw that it would reinstall Windows. Would this be ok even though I don't have activated windows installed? my friend provided me with the windows so i don't have the usb to reinstall it again. Also the PC is custom built. Windows Search Bar, web search never going away Posted: 23 Jun 2020 04:56 PM PDT Hello, I recently clean installed windows and tried to do a regedit fix for the Bing web search in the search bar, but even with everything set up like my old setup and what I see on the internet, the Bing search just doesn't want to leave my computer. Anyone one know what I could try to fix this? Or is this something Microsoft changed, again? Running Windows 10 version 2004 EDIT: Nvm, found a roundabout fix, for anyone else having the same issue : setting "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions" DWORD32 value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer" to 1 fixed it, but you won't have a recent entries anymore, a compromise [link] [comments]

Windows 10 suddenly is slow as hell Posted: 23 Jun 2020 07:06 AM PDT About 3 or 4 weeks ago, my laptop had a very sudden and drastic slow down. Everything works, but just slowly. At first I thought it was internet bandwidth because I live primarily in browsers and everything was loading slowly. Did a test on speedtest.net and and my laptop was 2 or 3x slower than my wife's laptop. But then I realized things that shouldn't require connectivity were slow too. As I write in this text window, there's material lag from when I type to when the letters appear. Switching between applications is slow too. I've done two Windows resets (first I saved files, then I removed them all) and the problem remains. I'm not sure what other diagnostics I can do. Not sure what other type of relevant info is needed: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2801 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB Total Physical Memory 31.9 GB Available Physical Memory 23.5 GB Total Virtual Memory 36.9 GB Available Virtual Memory 26.6 GB Page File Space 5.00 GB Any ideas on next steps to take? Could it be a hardware problem? [link] [comments]

Anyone know of a way to report a bug in Windows Server to Microsoft? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 07:24 AM PDT I've gone through Global Customer Service who told me to use a support.microsoft.com link, which I did but step 3 requires purchasing a professional support contract which at 500 for a single incident or 2,000 for a 5-pack of incidents, is definitely out of the realm of a budget for a home lab user who is stuck in quarantine and likely not to see any work for a long time. The bug is in regards to IPAM and IPv6, when adding an IPv6 address to the inventory and checking the Automatically Create DNS Records for this IP address checkbox or right-clicking an existing IPv6 address in the inventory and choosing the Create DNS PTR Record menu item, the letter characters in the IPv6 address get mangled into numbers. So an address of 2001:db8:ee51:0001::0050:56a6:7b3c, the non-prefix portion of the address or the ::0050:56a6:7b3c portion gets turned into ::0050:56016:711321 in the actual DNS PTR record. I spoke with someone on the Social TechNet forums named Candy Luo who confirmed the same issue happens in Windows Server 2016 as well in her lab environment and recommended to contact global customer service. I've contemplated posting an entry on the Feedback app but that seems tailored specifically to Windows 10 and not Server 2019. So does anyone know a way to report a bug in Windows Server? It's not something I am desperate to see fixed, it's just an annoyance at worst but it is still a bug that I'd like to see fixed considering it seems to look simple enough from the outside. Thanks. Resources for learning Windows desktop programming in C++ Posted: 23 Jun 2020 06:12 AM PDT I have been programming for a while in Linux, all command line programs. I want to learn Windows desktop application development but couldn't find a solid resource to learn. Everything I found is either too old or the latest one is just the microsoft docs which is too scattered, lacking consistency of gradual learning experience(atleast for me). Also Windows having so much abstraction in code really makes it difficult to begin with. Please help me find some good resources released atleast after 2015. Drop your suggestions and experience below. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to set a 3/4 finger tap to lock the PC on Windows 10? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:46 AM PDT I just moved to a Dell Precision 5540 from a Dell Latitude E7470. One feature that I sorely miss is that the latitude had options in the "Dell Touchpad Assistant" to set a 3 or 4 finger tap to "Lock Computer" On the 5540 the same app only has "Launch Mouse Control Panel" I thought I'd be able to do that by setting the taps to "Win+L" in "Advanced gesture configuration" under the "Touchpad" settings (only keyboard shortcuts seem to be allowed. I can't set it to a program/file), but that doesn't seem to do anything at all. [link] [comments]

Windows Firewall Defender not working on some Apps Posted: 23 Jun 2020 11:07 AM PDT I tried blocking Internet Explorer with the Windows Firewall Defender, and weirdly enough I can still browse the internet: https://i.stack.imgur.com/lmCyQ.png However when I did the same for the Opera browser, then it did block the internet... so now I'm confused... why is it not blocking for one but is blocking for another? Are the official Windows 10 USB sticks updated with service packs? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 10:44 AM PDT Hi, about to install Windows 10 for my sis her new system. She has the official Windows 10 USB stick from Microsoft. It just says Windows 10, not which version, doesn't say if it has been updated. Do these things come with service packs and updates? I don't want to install it and spend 10 hours on updates, we have an old USB stick to put windows on but it's USB 2.0. Anyone know if those official USB sticks get updated when Microsoft sells them? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
