Terminal output gets cut off after resizing the window. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:19 AM PDT So, I've been using i3wm and URxvt as my window manager and terminal emulator for some time and now I've got this problem. As it can be seen in the image, whenever I open another window, the text in the terminal gets cut off and it doesn't get refreshed or reloaded after resizing it. I'm pretty sure that this didn't use to happen before but i can't find the source of it. I tried some other terminal emulators like termite and st but they all had the same issue. I searched and found this solution. It works but it's not that good.I'm pretty lost here and would really appreciate some help. So, got any ideas? [link] [comments] |

Help setting up a new server for Plex and docker Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:37 PM PDT Hey everyone! I recently put together a server PC from old parts to have a home file storage server, Plex sever and docker. I'm looking to setup the computer so I can remote into it and access files on it from any device as well. Specs Amd fx 8320 8 core 16gb of ram 120gb ssd c drive 8tb Seagate storage drive (adding more soon) No dedicated gpu so once I get this setup I put the GPU I'm using back in the PC it's from and just remote into the server when I need too. My question is, where do I start? I haven't worked with Linux in years and everything has changed since. I'm wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial or post on setting all of this up. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Easiest way to download torrents via SSH? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:00 PM PDT I'm trying to use transmission-cli and failing miserably apparently... See below, is there a better way to do this and download torrents directly to an attached USB drive? .desktop file missing for my i3-gaps Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:29 AM PDT Hi all! I just recently replaced Debian and i3 with what was supposed to be Ubuntu core with i3 gaps DE. However, after installing, I don't get the option to log into i3 gaps. Google seems to indicate I'm missing .desktop file in /usr/share/xsession which is indeed true. But haven't found the solution that can fix the issue. Could anyone share the contents of their file? Thanks [link] [comments] |

[Pop! OS] KDE Desktop refuses to die Posted: 04 Jun 2020 10:41 AM PDT Hi Friends, I installed KDE Plasma Desktop and I like it for a few brief moments. I later decided to uninstall it and it is still showing up on my Log-in screen as an option to choose if I want to. I have tried the following commands: - sudo apt purge kde-standard (nope) - sudo apt purge plasma-desktop (nope) - sudo apt-get remove plasma-desktop (nope) - sudo apt-get purge plasma-desktop (nope) - sudo apt autoremove (nope) What am I doing wrong? Evolution slow to create new message. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 10:19 AM PDT I'm using Evolution 3.36.3 with a Microsoft Exchange Server. Everything is working pretty well and responsive, even searching through a large email archive is reasonably fast. The only thing that is unusually slow is the creation of a new message, or the creation of a reply message. Sometimes they pop up right away, sometimes they can't 45 seconds to appear. Any idea what might cause that and if there is a fix? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:03 AM PDT Hi. Please I need help as this is driving me crazy at this point, I spent the whole night trying to make my Lubuntu 20.04 installation work, I followed guides and tried different settings by my own but nothing seems to work.....
Here's what I did: 1) Get the iso file from the lubuntu site and make a bootable flash drive. 2) Boot from the installer drive and get to the live desktop where the Install Lubuntu 20.04 icon is. 3) Once inside the installer select the option that uses the whole drive, as it was empty. 4) Install bootloader to /dev/sda/ MBR I think this is causing the errors. The installation finished successfully but once the computer restarted it shut off itself after doing the memory check. Turned it on again and went into the boot selection menu where I chose to boot from the hard drive and to my surprise it did the same: shutdown. No errors or beeps, nothing. I went back into the installer after reading a few stuff and in step 4 I selected Install boot loader to system partition called "/" waited again for it to install and what it did? THE SAME. I swear the hard drive is completely fine as any Windows can be installed to it and it will boot, so.... what's going on? [link] [comments] |
[developer] [sys admin] Does VIM editor worth it now in 2020? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 08:48 AM PDT I don't know much about vim because there are other text tools so I don't have the need to use it. And i feel it's the case of most newbies. I mean, i read a lot of people want to learn vim to code their projects, or config their systems... And AFAIK, it's not that easy to start using it. Is there actual reason to do so? Or is mostly a enthusiastic behavior? [link] [comments] |
Devuan doesn't boot into the desktop. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 08:22 AM PDT Recently I decided to switch from Debian to Devuan for better security + privacy and a more minimal system. OS itself does boot however I can't get into the XFCE desktop. It stays on commandline. I don't know what to do as this didn't happen before (and when it did it was intentional) so can you guys help me out on this one? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:34 PM PDT I've moved into linux by installing Linux mint. It's a great distro with lots of pre installed apps but I was missing the apple feel so I switched to elementary os which is beautiful to look at easy but it's too plain. I've looked apple theme customisation which can be done great in kde plasma desktop environment. Then I thought how about I use kde plasma as it can be customised and use debian as base os? Upon looking on the Internet saw lots of opinions about debian is not user friendly and packages are outdated. So what's the actual matter ? [link] [comments] |
Tried to shrink a partition, now the amount I shrunk it by is completely gone Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:14 AM PDT So I am dual booting Linux Lite with Windows 10, and I wanted to give the Linux File System 9 more GB of storage. So I ran a trial version of Linux off a USB and shrunk my OS C: windows partition by 9GB. My computer crashed while this was happening, at least I think so, I left the room and when I came back the system had a black screen and it wouldnt have finished shrinking the partition by that point. Anyway now my OS C: drive says it has 97 GB of storage at the bottom of the attached screenshot, but 88 GB (9 GB less, gone because I deleted it) under capacity. When I open up Linux this does not come up as allocated space on GPart, so I can't expand my Linux File System. In short, 9 GB of storage has vanished into thin air and I dont know how to fix it Edit: when I look at my OS C: partition on gparted it says it's size is 97.27GB , used is 60.51GB and free is 27.97 GB, that doesn't add up?!
