I’m sick of apple MacBooks please help me decide what to get next. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:14 AM PDT I need a new laptop I am an artist I occasionally use adobe creative suite but most of the time I'm just using the internet. Im not someone who plays video games, I just have a lot of photos and music files. I want something that will last me a super long time but costs half as much to maintain than the MacBook Pro I've been using. I don't need any fancy bells an whistles. TouchIDs and facial recognition freak me out. What should I be looking for? [link] [comments]

Dual USB-C out to single Thunderbolt 3 in setup Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:43 AM PDT Currently using an HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2 and I'm looking to upgrade my WFH setup with the Logitech Streamcam (USB-C) and dual Dell 24 USB-C (P2421DC) monitors. The dell monitors support daisy chaining, resulting in 2 USB-C cables: 1 for the webcam and 1 for the dual monitors. Considering the HP x360 has a single Thunderbolt 3 port, I'm curious as to whether anyone has a basic solution to connect 2 USB-C ports to a single Thunderbolt 3 port (if this is possible)? Any help is appreciated, thanks! Note: the monitors support power delivery thru USB-C up to 65W, but maintaining this functionality in any potential solutions is not necessary. [link] [comments]
HP ENVY 15 (2020) vs HP OMEN (2020) Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:10 PM PDT Currently I'm stuck between these two laptops at similar price points and am unsure which to get. My only experience with HP I have is with an HP EliteBook 840 G1 that I was fond of. My budget is $1400. I am looking at a base HP ENVY 15: i7-10750H, GTX 1650 Ti, 16 GB Memory, 15.6" diagonal FHD 300 nits (1920 x 1080), 256 GB M.2 SSD for $1137.50. With a 3-year warranty, it would be $1,301.49. I could upgrade to 1660 ti (max-q) for $200, but I would only get 1 year of warranty as a 3-year warranty would be out of my budget. I am also looking at the new AMD HP OMEN: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, 16GB Memory, GTX 1660 Ti, 1TB SSD for $1,349.99. This has a 1-year warranty. In regards to the display, the Envy 15 has been marketed as having "100-percent sRGB color gamut support", and other laptops in the current ENVY line seem to support that (100% sRGB or higher). According to HP, the OMEN display is "72% NTSC (1920 x 1080) Color Gamut: 72% NTSC which equates to 99% sRGB." My uses include programming, art, and game development (mostly 2D). I use Unity and have been learning to use 3DS Max & Blender in the past year. I don't play many graphically-intensive, AAA games. I only regularly play FFXIV. I'm planning on building a PC by the end of the year or next, so this would eventually be used as a supplement and on-the-go/studying. The OMEN has clearly better specifications. I am concerned, however, about two things: 1) build quality and 2) warranty and support. I'm looking for a laptop that will last me a while. In terms of materials, the ENVY is all-aluminum while the previous OMEN models were a mix of plastic and aluminum. I've never dealt with HP Support and experiences seem mixed at best. TL;DR I can't decide if I should get a laptop with longer warranty but inferior specs or a laptop with better specs with less warranty. If anyone can share experiences with the current ENVY line, OMEN line, or about HP Support, I would appreciate it as it might help me pick one. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:57 PM PDT Do you guys use cooling pads for gaming or is it a bad idea? My laptop has air intake on the bottom. I have been using a cooling pad for half a year now and I'm afraid it's just damaging the laptop fans. [link] [comments]
Unable to decide which Laptop brand/model should I buy Posted: 04 Jun 2020 07:58 AM PDT I need to buy a laptop which suits my criteria:
now you may think, you could have just done a search on amazon or any shopping site but the options they give are either too costly or have terrible customer care or have contradictory reviews. I think reading reviews on such sites have added more to my dilemma. One more reason why I'm unable to decide to which one is ideal is since this my first time searching/ want to buy one. I don't have any friends to help me out in suggesting laptops, so redditors help me out. My budget is about INR 80,000 (Approx. $1100). [link] [comments]
Accidentally might have broke CPU fan headers Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:54 PM PDT Hi I took apart my laptop to reapply the thermal paste to the CPU and GPU. I tried to disconnect the fan header and accidentally ripped the white socket from the motherboard. Could it be soldered back on? What are my options? Here are some pictures Is this salvageable? Model: HP ENVY 17 Notebook Many thanks :) [link] [comments]

Looking for a gaming laptop that has both a new AMD Ryzen chip and a touchscreen Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:26 PM PDT I'm in the market for a new laptop and I want it to be capable of playing most current games at low - mid graphics settings, and I need it to have a touchscreen. From the research I've seen, the newest Ryzen chips seem to draw less power and thus have longer battery life than current Intel chips, so I'd also prefer one of the new AMD chips, but I can't seem to find a laptop that has both a touchscreen and an AMD chip. Does anyone know if there are any models on the horizon that have both? I'm willing to wait if there is something coming down the pipe. Failing that, I was considering a new XPS 15, but am not sure how the GTX 1650 Ti will do with games. Any advice is welcome. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:32 PM PDT Hi everyone, i am debating between two laptops, the asus zenbook duo i7 16gb ram and MacBook air i7 16gb. Both are around 1500 USD with apple's education pricing. I am a business student in college. I am fine with both windows and mac os. Any other laptops in that price range, and is there a difference in ddr3 ram vs ddr4 cause the asus has ddr3 and the macbook ddr4? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:31 PM PDT I bought a new laptop from HP a few weeks ago. Long story short they sent me a broken laptop. It would not even turn on or just gave a boot device error. I sent the laptop to HP and they said that the damage was not covered by warranty and I would have to pay $500. Luckily I had a third party protection plan, but buyers beware. I would not buy another laptop from HP [link] [comments]

Help, Just spilled water on my laptop, screen turned black and colorful lines appeared on it. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:07 PM PDT When water spilled, i immediately tried to turn the laptop off, but it was too late. I dryed it and now it's drying on a towel. A few minutes ago, i accidentally touched the power button but the screen was still black so i immediately turned it off again. Do you think it'll be fine? Any tips? [link] [comments]

I am also going to clean it. I've been thinking about selling it now since I am trying to build a pc. The original price was around 2000 CAD. It's the asus rog gl502 vs ds71 Specs: 1070 8b vram I7 7700hq 1tb hdd and 128gb ssd 16gb ram Windows 10 How much do you guys think I could sell it for in CAD? [link] [comments]
Data loss when replacing battery? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:52 AM PDT My Lenovo Yoga PC recently crashed and now only functions with the charger plugged in, but extremely slow. I suspect it's a battery problem, especially because it started to malfuncion before the crash already, but I don't know 100%. Anyways, I'll have to bring it to a service to fix it, but they told me to do a back up first before I'm bringing it for repair since it might lose all its data. Now, is it really a risk to lose all data if I were to replace my battery or should the PC be exactly as before, just with a new battery? [link] [comments]
Why do all PC laptops do crazy things while typing with wrists on wrist-rests? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:43 AM PDT Doesn't seem to matter - any make or model of PC (non-Mac) laptop I've ever owned does crazy stuff while typing if I happen to rest my hands on the chassis to either side of the touchpad, where you are expected to put your wrists. When I say crazy things, it's like jumping to random places within a document, selecting and/or replacing text while typing - all without touching any special keys like Shift, Alt, Cntl, etc. [link] [comments]

Thunderbolt 3 Port Extension/Splitter Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:31 AM PDT Hello everyone, Hope you all are holding up good. Issue: My laptop Dell Inspiron 14 7490 just has a single Thunderbolt 3 port that is also used for charging. I completely overlooked that important fact and now stuck with just one Thunderbolt 3 port. I want to connect a fast external hard drive using TB3 AND at the same time charge my laptop. I don't want to go for expensive docks which has ports for monitors or extra USB A 5Gb/s slower ports. I just want my laptop to be charged and an extra 10Gb/s or higher transfer USB port (preferably TB3). Can someone suggest me some good options ? [link] [comments]

Gaming Laptop and High-End Laptop difference? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:20 AM PDT Hello guys, I plan on buying a new laptop but I don't know which one to get. I've been searching about gaming laptops but I still question the difference between a gaming laptop and a high-end laptop. Is a gaming laptop with the same specs as a regular laptop better or is it not? Which one should I go for? [link] [comments] |
