Posted: 25 Jun 2020 11:07 AM PDT Recently purchased a secondary ThinkPad to be fully Linux. I have messed around with Manjaro on an 10-year-old laptop not that long ago. I know my secondary will be Linux. Debating on jumping to Arch Linux, I don't mind the aggressive learning curve. I know Manjora holds users' hand a bit more. Is there any reason other than being easier should I stick with Manjora instead of making the Arch plunge? [link] [comments] |

Creating folders for each image in a directory automatically Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:13 AM PDT I don't know if such a thing possible but i want to put in a new folder each image in a directory and want folders and image names to be same. There is like 400+ images that needs to be foldered like that and i really don't want to do it one by one. Is there any command or something that can accomplish this ? [link] [comments] |

When setting up a DE should i install as root or sudo user? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 08:08 AM PDT Im messing around with ricing Arch on a VM. I'm not sure if i should be installing window managers / display managers etc as root or as a sudo user? Is there a difference. I suppose this question goes for normal application too. My understanding that installing applications as a sudo user makes those applications solely available for that user? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jun 2020 10:04 AM PDT I frequently use "|" in the file names for "foreign language | english" naming, so when I was browsing the contents of my drive over ssh I found out that pipe symbols show up as squares with question mark in them. Why is that? Terminal can show "|" when I'm issuing a command just fine. [link] [comments] |

How would I apply halium 9 to a kernel along with other patches? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 12:44 PM PDT I am trying to get ubports gsi work with my android tablet (sm-t580) xda-developers.com/ubports-gsi-brings-ubuntu-touch-to-any-project-treble-supported-android-device/, but I figured this was more of a linux question - So I am asking here. I want to use this kernal [github link] (becuase I need it for this as my device does not officially support treble), and do the steps described here github.com/ubports/porting-notes/wiki/Generic-system-image-(GSI)#common-kernel-patches#common-kernel-patches). I am a bit of a noob at kernals, but I have successfully compiled my own kernal with manual configuration once on my linux laptop. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to apply patches and other things like that to a kernal, as I am literally stuck on the first step?... :D Thanks for reading [link] [comments] |
Non-working backlight and WiFi problems on Lenovo MIIX 300-10IBY Posted: 25 Jun 2020 12:17 PM PDT Hi. I have a sort of weird laptop, a MIIX 300-10IBY. It worked sort of fine on Windows and Void Linux, however I wanted to switch it to Arch which I have used on my desktop. I followed this guide on the ArchWiki to get an bootia32.efi file and boot it up. Sometimes, it boots up fine but I can't get DNS to work for the life of me. Other times the backlight doesn't work. Firstly, the backlight: Sometimes it just boots up, but other times i get to GRUB, see a bunch of messages (I don't have quiet set) but afterwards the screen clears and sometimes i get into the TTY, other times I just get nothing and the screen turns off. I have noticed that when the TTY works, the backlight changes to a higher value in the middle of booting, however when it doesn't, at the top I can see And after that it just continues with running some more hooks and a bunch of [OK] statements like my desktop. I'm not sure how much of that output is related to the backlight, or to the fact that when I try to connect to WiFi, I can ping 1.1.1.1 but not archlinux.org. I've tried connecting by two methods (with a couple reboots (so the backlight randomly starts working) in between) By now, I can ping a numeric address (192.168.1.1, 1.1.1.1) but not a domain name. I also tried the following: And I get the same result. Could anybody help me? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
How do I add this to "kernel options"? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:11 AM PDT Hi guys. Running Arch w/ KDE on my Thinkpad X260. I have had this issue (like others have, apparently) since I installed Linux on this and it's pretty annoying. Problem is, I am not sure how to add/make the changes outlined on the Arch wiki and mentioned in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/gu0a8a/psa_solution_for_random_freezes_with_intel_igpu/ https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop/Lenovo#Thinkpad_X260 Could someone help me out? How make fix the appdrawer issue in gnome? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:27 AM PDT I'm using gnome on Arch and I used the dash-to-dock extension to make the dock at the bottom. This is the state of the app drawer after putting the dash at the bottom. After that every time I click on Show Applications The icons become small and the text becomes partially visible. But I want the icons to stay the same size as when putting the dock in the left side. Is there any way to fix that? [link] [comments] |
