Laptops I got this Acer Aspire 5 recently and I am really loving it. It has an I7 10510u and a Mx250 GPU with a 256 ssd and 1tb hdd. My first pc with a ssd. I upgraded from a old HP probook 450. I just have 1 problem. That nasty black sticker. Any ideas of peeling that safely off?

    Intel I7-1065g7 with mx350 VS amd ryzen 7 4700U with vega 7

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:33 AM PDT

Hey guys! I really need some advice! For my studies I will need a new laptop. After a long search my eye has fallen on a few laptops with some key differences. One has an Intel i7-1065g7 cpu with an mx350 gpu. While the other has an AMD ryzen 7 4700U cpu with integrated graphics. The AMD also has 16 gb of ram compared to the 8 from the Intel one.

Things I need the laptop for: - browsing - a tiny bit of programming and modelling - light gaming (rocket league, dota, hearthstone and occasionally terraria).

By my own research I know that AMD cpu are quite good at the moment, but I am worried that if I take the AMD i wont be able to play my games on normal 60 fps on medium settings. Is there really a big difference between the vega 7 integrated graphics and the mx350? And how does the AMD cpu fare against the intel i7 cpu?

    Thankyou for helping me out!

Need Laptop for college (ux design)

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 11:06 AM PDT

Hey guys, I need your help.

I'm currently looking for a laptop. Budget is 1.200 euros (1.350 usd). 16gb ram, 500gb ssd minimum. i7 processor. I want a glossy display and if possible uhd (4k) resolution. Anything between 13 to 15.6 inches will do. It should be relatively light since I plan on traveling with it. Battery life should be 8 hours minimum. Furthermore an illuminated keyboard would be amazing. Oh and I want a Windows operated laptop. So no apple.

I'll need it mostly for college, ux design (Figma, Adobe xd), surfing the Web and watching videos. I will NOT play games on it. I'm open to 2 in 1 convertibles. So far I've looked into lenovo, HP, Asus.

    Any recommendations with good graphics?

    Thanks guys

Dell XPS 13 2019 VS MacBook Air 2020

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:56 AM PDT

Hi all, I'm a university student wanting to purchase a laptop. Being in Australia, the prices on tech are very strange- with the XPS 13 2020 being even more expensive than a MacBook Pro. I assume it may be something to do with tariffs? (If anyone knows please tell me) Anyways, therefore I've decided to either opt for the 2019 model, or the MBA 2020.

In all honesty if the 2020 XPS was cheaper (it's $2,700 AUSD) I would've bought it in a heartbeat. But alas that's not the case.

XPS 13 2019: $1,700 (~$1,500 with EOFY sales and discount codes) MBA 2020: $1,600 (~$1,400 with education discount)

And before anyone says it, yes I know there are cheaper laptops that will deliver greater performance. However, pretty much every young adult will say: social hierarchy is very important 😂.Yes I know I'm a basic bitch but hey 🤷‍♂️. I don't mind spending the extra few hundred.

I don't have a preference between the two operating systems and like them both equally. I own a Samsung S10, however I don't really care about laptop and phone synchronisation.

I am planning to use the laptop for uni: e.g. docs, spreadsheets, data analysis programs, lots of YouTube and browsing. I literally never game, don't even own a console of any sort. I'm not all that concerned about battery life, as long as it's above 6 hours it should be fine. I plan to use this laptop for at least five years and hopefully more.

I've been able to test out both the laptop's as my friends have them. However it's hard to decide as this is a lot of money and a massive purchase for me.

I've watched and read a myriad of reviews. The most glaring issue I've noticed is that the MBA has crappy cooling and runs hot. However, I don't think this would be an issue for me as I rarely dabble in the intensive applications. For the XPS, I'm not a fan of the 1080p screen and huge bottom bezel that takes up a good chunk of vertical space and the slightly cheaper looking materials.

Basically I'm torn between the MBA and it's amazing keyboard, design, and trackpad; and the XPS' better U series CPU, cooling, size (slightly smaller than MBA) and 'upgradability' (more future proof?).

Tbh maybe when someone else reads this it's clear which one I'm leaning towards.

(I'm typing this on my phone- apologize for any weird spelling or missing words)

    Anyways thanks in advance.

    Cheers mate(s)

Ryzen 4700 hp envy x360 for music production?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 02:13 PM PDT

I can get a great deal on an HP envy with a Ryzen 4700u and 16gb ram new for $700. The laptop will be used for music production. I've done a lot of research, and this is a very fast chip as far as I can tell and blows away intel on the benchmarks.

Does anyone know how this chip would be utilized for music production purposes?

RAM from a Big Gaming Brand or a Not-So-Big Gaming Brand?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 10:02 AM PDT

SPECS: CPU: Ryzen 7 3750H RAM1: SK Hynix 4GB 2666mhz (came with the laptop) RAM2: Walram 8GB 2400mhz (impulse upgrade) Model: ASUS TUF FX505DT

So when I bought my laptop I asked for a RAM upgrade and so, the salesman did. After a few days of use I wondered if 12gb RAM was okay for my system, and it was. But later on I found out that I had different RAM speeds.

After some research, I learned that it's not much of a big deal, but also came across others that had issues in booting and BSODs with different ram speeds and makers. And I might as well future proof my laptop now by upgrading my RAM to 2 sticks of 8GBs 2666mhz and came with a dilemma in the pricing and the brands, but with the same specs.

    My choices:

    • Crucial 8GB 2666mhz - Php 1,600.00 (approx. 30 USD)
    • Kingston HyperX Impact 8BG 2666mhz - Php 4,000 to 5,000.00 (approx 80-100 USD)

(Prices are based on store prices in the mall here in the PH)

    My question:

What are the main differences between the Crucial vs the HyperX Impact? Is the difference in performance, qualit, and durability worth the price difference?

    Thank you so much!!

    Inexpensive options for EPIC charting

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 01:45 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I am considering a purchase for a new laptop and thought I would seek some advice here. I currently own a Surface Pro 4 (about 3.5 years old at this point).

For my job, I often do EPIC charting through a remote Citrix receiver from my tablet. It hasn't been keeping up well and it often crashes mid-note writing which is frustrating.

Any guidance on a new computer that would get the job done would be appreciated. My Surface Pro is still meeting all other requirements but I'm thinking it's time to invest in something that helps me be more efficient.

    Thanks in advance!

And if somebody can link the best cheap ram that i can pair with this laptop would be nice

Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming or HP Pavilion Gaming 15

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 01:12 PM PDT

May somebody help me decide which laptop from above should I choose? I am planning to use them mainly for school in September, some Photoshop and some gaming.

Both have the same specifications(Intel Core i5 9300H, 8gb RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX 1650), but the IdeaPad is slightly cheaper.

I am interested in build quality, screen, battery and temperarure. I have had good experience with HP before, so I am wondering did the build quality decrease. Also this doesn't really matter but it would also be helpful if the keyboard illumination is brighter/adjustable on models.

    Thanks in advance.

Getting my first windows laptop, need some help deciding

I'm probably not going to use it for any AAA gaming, maybe a steam title or two here and there. I'm looking at this HP laptop from Best Buy. Is HP a reliable brand, or is there a different computer for around the same price that would serve me better?

HP knows they're a dying company

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:32 PM PDT

I bought what seemed to be a nice laptop but changed my mind before it even arrived after reading some reviews and seeing how it sells for less than 1/2 of what I paid new for it lightly used on eBay. HP even sells it on their eBay for less than what I paid ordering from HP.com.

So I go to return it. On the product page it says hassle free returns for 30 days, restock fee may apply. Turns out restock fee is $130 even though I never even opened it. Whatever still worth returning.

Well there's no way to process a return online. You have to call them, which you guessed it is a fucking nightmare. Some Indian will plead with you not to return the laptop, offer alternatives you never would have considered like "do you have any family with a birthday coming up? maybe this would make a good gift for them" and basically try and sell you on the supposed merits of the laptop you made the mistake of buying. Also if they ask if you own any other HP products the correct answer is "no", unless you would actually like to be aggressively sold a "hassle free" service plan on those devices.

I'm about 3 weeks into the HP return process and still no shipping label. My last call to them was 5 days ago and they assured me I would receive an email from the "return investigation" department by the end of the day. No email, no surprise. So far I've made 5 calls to HP. 2/5 I was immediately hung up on without callback once I mentioned I was calling to return (after a ~20 min hold). Each of the other 3 calls I spent more than a half hour on the phone to no avail.

Anyways if this post saves one other person from having to deal with this god awful company it will be well worth the time it took to type.

Edit: Also you can only call the returns department during normal business hours so have fun calling them at lunch

    Help with Lenovo Ideapad 110

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:41 PM PDT

So I have this laptop with a broken screen so I plugged it into my monitor via HDMI. I decided to do a factory reset but when I pressed factory reset no signal shows up on my monitor. I'm assuming the screen on the laptop is just showing the Lenovo start up logo but i don't know if it's that or some menu that I have to press something.

Not overly into computers, not sure what to ask for my used laptop

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:39 PM PDT

So I want to sell my old laptop. It's a dell precision 7510. Only thing I did with it is put a Samsung 500gb ssd in it. It's fairly old but was very expensive when new and they still seem to be going for quite a bit on ebay used/refurbished. I'm not sire what would be a reasonable amount to ask for mine. I dont want ti ask way to much or give it away. (I'm in canada so of you have a suggestion of a price let me know in cad or usd)

You can still get them refurbished at best buy

Need help with potential ram/ graphics card upgrade

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:30 PM PDT

Hi there, admittedly really not too in the know when it comes to laptop hardware. I have an old HP envy that's got a fan issue the shop couldn't repair and an Acer Aspire 3 that I currently use. Would it be possible to remove the 8gb ram or the intel graphics card from the HP Envy and place it in my Acer aspire 3? Any advice or help would be appreciated, will happily provide more info. Cheers

I can't decide if I should buy a gaming pc or not

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:24 PM PDT

I'm planning on buying a new pc, and I have two choices: an Asus TUF 505dt or a Thinkpad E490.

The problem is that for more than five years, I have been yearning to buy a gaming laptop to play the games I couldn't play at that time, and now I have the budget to buy a good laptop.

Asus has a better graphic card, and Thinkpad has better pro design and builds quality as I heard.

I can buy the Asus to satisfy my urges, but I'm not sure if it will last or settle with the ThinkPad, hoping to have no regret, which I doubt. It is also worth noting that Asus have SSD which is helpful in my programming domain

    Please help me to decide.

    Zephyrus G14 vs Zephyrus M GU502GU

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:15 PM PDT

These are the configurations of the laptops I´m deciding between.

    Zephyrus G14 GA401IU

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS GPU: NvidiaGTX 1660ti Max-Q RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200mhz
    1080p, 120hz IPS display 512gb SSD 1266.79 € (1421.17 usd)

    Zephyrus M GU502GU

    CPU: Intel Core i7 9750H GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660ti RAM: 16GB DDR4 2666mhz
    1080p, 144hz, 3ms IPS display 512gb SSD 1399.00 € (1569.50 usd)

I read great things about the G14, but I only recently discovered the model I´m looking at comes with 1660ti Max-Q, not the full fledged one. I really worry about the performance of the Max-Q variant, compared to the classic one. In that category, the Zephyrus M takes the cake easily. But on the other hand, Ryzen 7 4800HS is a definitive winner over the i7 9750H. I am not planning to use is as a gaming-only machine, I also want to use it in school, do some design work, and just use it for casual purposes. Both the laptops deliver in this area. I just can´t decide myself if I want to sacrifice in the area of CPU or in the area of GPU.

What would you guy recommend? What area should I sacrifice, for this laptop to last me a decent amount of time (at least 3-4 years)?
