| Creating a system-wide Macro without third-party software? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 03:53 PM PDT I'm just asking here because I've tried looking everywhere else online and haven't found something that will work. Basically, I'm helping out a team that does a pretty repetitive set of tasks and the one thing they always have to do is add a specific URL to every email they send. The issue is our IT team won't allow any third party software to be installed on the laptops we're working from. We're using Chrome and GSuite for all the work so I tried the few macro extensions available on the chrome web store but none of them seem to be working. All They need to do is hit a key combo like shift+alt+/ to paste the URL and this would literally make their whole day just the littlest bit easier. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. | Disabling UAC Shield in a specific application Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:06 PM PDT I can't somehow disable the UAC shield on the application I used, I tried reinstalling the program but it still ask to run as an admin even though its newly installed, I tried disabling the Run as an Admin in the compatibility in properties and restarted my laptop afterwards but it still ask permission as an admin, I don't want to fully disable the UAC shield entirely just want to disable it in a specific application. | Upgrading from 32bit to 64bit Windows 7 Posted: 03 Jun 2020 06:54 PM PDT So, I'm a newb here I'm planning to update from 32 bit to 64 bit. Will I be able to back up my files using the "create system image" option from my 32 bit computer and restore them onto my 64 bit? And if so, will it restore the previous user accounts that were there before along with their files? My father has some stuff I wouldn't want to touch. | My Windows 7 user dissappeared Posted: 03 Jun 2020 06:35 PM PDT I was checking some programs, until I found a Chinese program, which apparently was a virus. I checked in other users programs by Task Manager and it was there. I put safe mode on so I could delete it safely, but my Windows 7 user dissappeared. The user name was the same as the other, but the photo and password changed. Does anybody know how to recover my user? [link] [comments]  |

| Issues with Windows Firewall and Windows Apps Posted: 03 Jun 2020 01:22 PM PDT A couple weeks ago I started to have an issue with windows firewall. It somehow got disabled and when I try to enable it I get this error message: https://i.imgur.com/mM6hdFA.png I have also found that I cannot open the Microsoft Store any longer. When I try to open it nothing happens and I don't see an error message. However, I do get this installation message in my notifications: https://i.imgur.com/EAcCTgg.png It does not progress past 95%. Many of the preinstalled applications are also not working as you can see here: https://i.imgur.com/TRgdlcN.png When I try to open any of these applications I get an error message: https://i.imgur.com/DshzSxT.png I have downloaded the antivirus program Panda Dome and scanned my computer a couple times but it hasn't found anything malicious. | issues trying to install windows nt 4.0 on an everex stepnote 5 Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:11 AM PDT im trying to install windows nt 4.0 on an everex stepnote 5 that i got for free from the side of the road. it had windows 98 installed on it but i decided to install windows nt 4.0 on it, if i boot from the cd i get this error message: BOOT: couldnt find NTLDR, aborting now if i run the disc from within widnwos 98 i get this setup was unable to install windows nt bootloader ensure that your C: drive is formatted and not damaged setup cannot continue, press RETURN to quit do i have to format the hard drive or something for it to work? | Windows laptop won’t connect to any network Posted: 03 Jun 2020 03:44 PM PDT All the WiFi routers in my house are showing up but it try's to connect to a network but it doesn't connect then the adapter disables itself and then it says "unable to connect to this network" this has been happening for weeks then it just fixes itself and then proceeds to fix itself. | Help with Windows drivers for older Dell monitors Posted: 03 Jun 2020 11:47 AM PDT I don't know much about Windows, but I do know some things about computers in general. I have a Dell p2411Hb Monitor. I also have a machine running Windows 10. The machine recognizes the monitor, and even sends a signal to it. It generally doesn't update that image though, you can't really interact with it. This means the driver probably is no good. The monitor works with an older mac. The newest driver from Dell that I can find is from 13 Jun 2013, for Windows 7. Is there any hope in getting this monitor to work for Windows 10? Is there anything short of writing my own driver I can do? Edit: It looks like I can reproduce the issue on a different significantly newer monitor and its limited to the "Extend the display" option and doesn't happen when I mirror. Edit2: resolved. Ive noticed that the mic output automatically adjusts depending on the input the mic is receiving (receiving lower input = louder mic output | higher input = lowers mic output). My Windows Search doesn't show anything useful. It does not show the files in the start folder, even though they are indexed. | Keyboard/Mouse through USB C hub not working on one of my laptops Posted: 03 Jun 2020 03:12 PM PDT I bought a USB-C Hub to make it easier to switch my keyboard/mouse/ethernet between my worklaptop and personal laptop. I used it on my worklaptop today and it seemed to work fine but it's not working on my personal laptop( I have an Alienware). The usb-c hub is also powered (87W). | Updating OE Windows Boot Flash Drive Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:55 PM PDT Hey guys, Building a new computer tomorrow, and I obviously need to get a Windows boot drive for it. I have my original one for 10, but unfortunately, its not updated. I don't really want to go through the painstaking process of Windows updating itself after its installed. I downloaded Windows Media Installer from Microsoft to do this, figuring I can just flash the files on the OE stick to the most recent update, problem is, the installer doesn't detect the OE stick so I can't install it. I'd love to go buy a new one, but with COVID and the protests happening now, all the stores in my area close early. How do I make it so I can use the OE flash stick? Edit: Inserting it directly into the IO on the Mobo doesn't work, and neither does front IO on the case. All are USB 3.0 TL;DR: Windows Media Installer doesn't detect OE Windows Boot USB stick as a USB stick, so I can't flash the latest Windows to it. How do? [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:38 AM PDT So often when I edit photographs I'll create different versions and at the end of the file name before the extension I'll add .1 for the first version, .2 for the second version etc.. I used to be able to find them in window search but it's not working now. Now it brings up every file with the number one or every file with the number two even if I put parentheses marks around the decimal point and the number. Any idea what's going on? | Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:11 AM PDT I am using an Asus ROG GL503-GE and now I am getting error code 0xa00f4244 whenever I try to access my camera. Screenshot of camera app error. Before you recommend something related to driver issue, take a look at my device manager window and notice the Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Everything else is working fine on the device. I have already reopened my laptop and ensured all the connections are secure, I have also tried all the troubleshooting steps available online including uninstalling the device, disabling anti virus, ensuring camera access is enabled etc. The problem is all the troubleshooting issue for the error code is driver related, but in my case the device manager is not detecting any camera device and I am not sure what to do now. Please help! Given the lockdown season and all the online classes and meetings, I need the webcam more than ever. [link] [comments]  |
