It would be awesome if someone created a wikipedia article about android custom roms

    Posted: 31 May 2020 05:27 PM PDT

I noticed there is no wikipedia article about android custom roms in general... It would be nice to see one , that could eventually upgrade with new information, so i hope someone starts it.

i noticed there is a List of custom Android distributions, and rooting) (Android), and probably more that could be linked from this potential main article about android custom roms...

LG Stylo 5+ Apps slowed down, a lot of media showing up as gray "frown face" boxes

    Posted: 31 May 2020 12:52 PM PDT

    Hello,

Sorry if this belongs in the wrong place. I've had an LG Stylo 5+ for the past year. Never had any issue. No bloatware, I always do a clearing of unnecessary files, never have too many tabs open at a time.

Within the past week, it seems a lot of apps have become very slow or almost unresponsive. And on top of that, whenever I come across any type of media on FB or in a forum, it shows up as a gray "frown face" box. That goes for embedded tweets, videos, etc.

I've never had any issue like this before. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Shouldn't the Snapdragon 730G support HDR?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 08:17 PM PDT

I've read many articles saying that the should support 4K HDR filming plus HDR in games like PUBG, but my Galaxy A80 has it and don't do both? Why?

Is there any app that transfers app data?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 06:05 PM PDT

I know Samsung smart switch and huawei phone clone copy app data, but they only work to those specific brands. I have made a backup on huawei, but I can't download huawei backup on my other phone to restore it. I have tried many other transfer apps like SHAREit or Switch Mobile Transfer, but they either only transfer the app, and not its data, or just doesn't transfer apps at all. So do you know of any way I can transfer an app and it's data from a huawei phone to a Motorola? I'd really appreciate it

Is there a way to record audio into Google Recorder/Evernote via a bluetooth headset?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 07:49 PM PDT

I've recently made my way into the world of wireless audio with a pair of Pixel Buds. Evernote audio capture, Google Recorder, and to a lesser extent Otter have always been a part of my work flow for capturing idle thoughts/meeting notes, but now I'm finding that I can't seem to capture anything through my headset as each app appears to default to the phone's built in mic and I'm not seeing any options to switch their input.

Is there a settings option, or something obvious I'm missing? A quick google search finds articles from 8 years ago about how Android will only allow bluetooth audio input for phone calls... but I would assume that would have been updated in the time since.

Gave my old Moto Maxx to my friend, but he can't log in because the account verification is on loop and it doesn't allow him to set up without WiFi

    Posted: 31 May 2020 05:55 PM PDT

So, what happened is that I handed my old Motorola Moto Maxx over to my friend and we proceeded to set it up together after a factory reset.

After he entered his Google account email and password, it just looped back to the email input screen. Password was correct and it was connecting, but it just looped back. I tried setting it up with my own email since it was my phone and it does mention that I should set it up with an account that was previously synced. No luck, it just loops back.

Then we tried setting it up offline to see what happens, but it just doesn't allow me to proceed with no connection. So we're stuck and can't set up the phone.

    Version is 6.0.1 without root.

    Any help?

What can a 2011 Android tablet can do in 2020?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 11:54 AM PDT

I have a Toshiba thrive that I found laying around. It boots up. I had hoped to use this a smart home control panel, but the google home app requires android 5.0 or later while this tablet maxes out at android 4.0.4.

Is there anything worthwhile that a tablet running this OS is good for?

    disable spellcheck on Oppo devices?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 03:38 AM PDT

i cannot add/remove languages to the spell check nor can i disable it completely. on Samsung and stock devices there was a toggle, but none seems to exist on Android10 ColorOS7

a "fix" is using Gboard and toggling its built-in spell check, but neither Swiftkey or AnySoftKeyboard have such a settings.

Do i need to download usb drivers before flashing an official rom?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 12:20 PM PDT

My galaxy note 9 is stuck in a bootloop for some reason and i need to flash a new rom in order to fix this problem, my question is do i need to download usb drivers before flashing an official rom? Some people told me that odin automatically detects the phone so i don't need to download the drivers, is this true?

    Also is sammobile legit?

Is there any other safe website to download roms and usb drivers from?

Two almost identical Moto G6's. The one with less ram feels faster.

    Posted: 31 May 2020 06:06 PM PDT

    My daughter's phone is a G6 with 3gb ram: XT1925 https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-32GB-XT1925-2-International/dp/B07CJXM11D

I've got a Moto G6 with 64gb of memory and 4gb of ram, same processor, and it feels noticeably slower: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C38BKCD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only thing I can think of is that maybe external sd card, which is not formatted as internal memory, is more sluggish.

App not installed on my Samsung S20+

    Posted: 31 May 2020 04:43 PM PDT

Hey there, I am trying to install an apk of an old version of an app as I dislike the new UI and it has removed some features.

I have tried turning off Play Protect, made sure that Chrome and the file manager are allowed to 'install from unknown sources'. At this point, I'm stuck and have no clue what else could be done...

How to get iOS emojis on Galaxy S20 plus without root?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 04:36 PM PDT

I've tried using this thing called emoji font 3, but it keeps returning an error, telling me that the font isn't supported and to delete it. Is there a work around to this? Or is there another way to get iOS emojis on Android?

Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ - Google Assistant cannot scan my screen, all related settings are enabled and no permissions have been denied

    Posted: 31 May 2020 12:40 PM PDT

As stated in the title my Google Assistant cannot perform the "Show me what's on my screen" function. I have gone through all the settings I can think of and the toggle to enable this feature is turned on. When I do attempt to tell the assistant to show me what's on my screen it doesn't show up in the quick commands so I have to say it aloud. When I say it, the Assistant comes back with a screen that says I need to enable the feature and offers me two links. One link is to More Info, which takes me to the support page that offers absolutely no help. The other link is a bit odd, it's a "settings" link and when I click on it a toast message pops up saying "this app is not installed".

So here's what I've tried: I tried toggling the setting for screen analysis (located within the Google app's assistant settings under advanced settings) off, then restarting the phone, then toggling the setting back on. That didn't work. So I tried turning off Assistant entirely, rebooting the phone, turning it back on. That didn't work. I tried installing the stand-alone assistant app from the Play Store, that changed nothing.

My phone is the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G, running on the latest updates as of the most recent security patch that came out sometime within the last two weeks. It is not rooted. The only other thing I can think to do is maybe try uninstalling the Google app and services entirely and reinstall them? But I'm worried about how that might impact a lot of the apps I have on there if I have to go back in and log in to all of them with my google account again.

Additional note: I do have Bixby disabled via the SideActions app, using the "Full Control" settings that require an ADB connection to a computer to enable. Not sure if that could be related but it seems unlikely.

    Oneplus 6 vs 7

    Posted: 31 May 2020 04:01 PM PDT

So I'm in the market for a new phone and it's down to the two of these. The oneplus 6 is all I NEED and the price is right up my alley but a friend who is much more knowledgeable with phones is telling me to get the 7 instead because it will receive security updates for longer. Is that worth the extra money for the 7? I know this sounds stupid but I'm really not sure how much the security updates actually do. For what it's worth, I have a Oneplus5 now.

Rounded image behaving strangely in certain devices

    Posted: 31 May 2020 03:45 PM PDT

I managed to build rounded images by putting an ImageView inside a rounded CardView. The inteded and actual result is this.

The problem occurs in certain devices (specifically, it happened in two different Redmi 5 Plus) and it's shown like this.

The same happens with other CardView+ImageViews in the application, but the error shows differently:

I don't know exactly what's happening, or why it's only happening in these devices. Already tried to add cardPreventCornerOverlap=false and cardUseCompatPadding=true but nothing happens. This would be the XML code:

    <androidx.cardview.widget.CardView android:layout_margin="@dimen/margin_accounts_avatar" app:cardCornerRadius="@dimen/cornerradius_rounded_avatar" app:cardElevation="4dp"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/imageview_accounts_avatar" android:layout_width="@dimen/size_accounts_avatar" android:layout_height="@dimen/size_accounts_avatar" android:contentDescription="@string/imageview_avatar" app:srcCompat="@drawable/ic_logo" /> </androidx.cardview.widget.CardView>

Transferring from one SD card to another

    Posted: 31 May 2020 03:29 PM PDT

Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 running on Pie, with Verizon Wireless and I recently got the Note 10+ and want to transfer everything from the first phone to the second one. The Note 10+ plus has the same OS and carrier, just more space. I'm going to use Samsung Smart Switch to transfer everything from the 8 to the 10+ (hopefully it works well) and, before that, backup as much as I can to Google Drive, Google 1, and my laptop. I'm wondering about one thing. I've always had one of the Galaxy series and always just transferred the old SD card to the newest phone, but now I got a different, larger capacity one for the Note 10+, and I wanted to know if there's a way to transfer the files from one SD card to another, or, if it just naturally occurs when you switch phones through the transfer. Or else maybe your file manager automatically copies the files you already have to it. Thank you in advance.

Set reminder no longer easy on Android 10

    Posted: 31 May 2020 03:29 PM PDT

One of the most useful features for a forgetful person like myself is the ability to set a reminder just by searching for "set reminder". As of today, I no longer have that ability. What was once a quick form is now just a standard Google search. Oddly enough this works on a desktop browser. Is this a bug that needs to be reported or is it yet another feature that Google thought we didn't need?

Low performance only on newly installed games

    Posted: 30 May 2020 11:37 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm experiencing a very very strange bug. I tried googling it, but no luck.

I'm using Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 (after not using it for a year or so, my current phone is being repaired). Android 9. Phone is not rooted.

Any NEW game I install is ridiculously slow, running at 1-2 FPS. Audio is normal. Non-gaming apps work normal, including the video playing ones, they work at 60FPS no problem. Old games, installed before ~1 week work normally. If I uninstall an old game and reinstall it, it will be 1-2 FPS slow.

I updated the phone to the latest firmware, it didn't help.

Now, the super weird thing is that if I install the app through google play and click Open as soon as it's installed, the game will work perfectly normally. So, I know that the hardware is capable of playing it normally. As soon as I click the bottom buttons, switch app or home screen, after returning to the game, it will be 1-2 FPS slow. If I install the game, wait 10 seconds and then start, it will be slow from the start. The game will only return to normal speed if I reinstall and open it within the 1st few seconds.

There are no unusual apps creating an overlay above my app, there are no unusual apps with crazy permissions installed on my phone. There are no bitcoin miners or anything crazy using 99% of the CPU or memory or IO.

I checked battery optimizations, even tried disabling them, no change. Phone is not in power saving mode.

Tried moving games to SD card, no change. Both SD and internal memory read and write speeds are good.

    Any ideas?

P.S. I won't be doing a factory reset because a) I have some finance apps that are a hassle to reinstall without migrating to a 2nd device and b) I am very stubborn programmer and never in my life have I been in a situation where I couldn't solve a computer issue by tinkering.

Samsung Galaxy J3 V randomly dies at 40-60%, or restarts itself repeatedly and then dies

    Posted: 31 May 2020 02:49 PM PDT

I had this phone since 2016 and haven't had a problem since this year. I use my phone quite often because of work and school. Once it reaches 40-60% it will glitch out and die automatically and whenever I try to turn it back on it says I need to plug it back in. Other times I will be on an app and it will gltich out again or run really slowly, and just die at like 70% and restart a bunch of times and then when it finally turns back on it's a 16%!? I don't have enough money to buy a new phone and really hope this can just be something I can take to the store and repair.

Can apps achieve Active Noice Cancelling?

Are there any technical difficulties that's stopping it from happening? Just wondering since ANC is basically a program, right? Surely we can just stuff it into an app or something.

Chrome and Duo keeps auto-enabling themselves.

    Posted: 31 May 2020 08:29 AM PDT

Hello guys. Just wondering if any of you keeps getting this error... Sure feels like a virus by now. Chrome and Duo continues to re enable themselves without my permission. I'm constantly ... Mostly daily.. disabling them but they just keep popping up obnoxiously. Also I continue almost every now and then to update this Android Web View app. I guess it's related to it. I'm considering to root my phone and uninstall for good.

    Thanks.
