Windows booting time increased from 10 seconds to 3 minutes. Posted: 01 May 2020 04:36 AM PDT Recently from last 3 days I am seeing a change in the startup speed of my PC. I used to be blazing fast like 10 seconds and I'm in my lock screen but now it takes around 3 minutes (including the long ASUS logo booting up, then the please wait message from windows) to come to my lock screen when I power it on. I'm not sure but I think I updated my PC about the same time since when I'm facing this issue. If that has anything to do with it. And I also downloaded a server for an Android remote mouse app called "Unified Remote" I have disabled all the unnecessary 'Run at startup apps' Kindly help me out. SOLVED:I ran sfc/scannow and it found the corrupted files and fixed them. Now my PC is back to it's previous speed. [link] [comments]

Can I open the code of a .exe file? Posted: 01 May 2020 05:49 PM PDT A friend of mine gave me a program a couple of years ago and I want to see if I can change it so that I can use it for other things. I've tried opening as... but that option doesn't appear. I use Windows 10. [link] [comments]
Help! My computer is infected?!?! Posted: 01 May 2020 09:36 AM PDT On my windows 7 computer, i downloaded this application and it came with another app called sAntivirus. I did some research and it is harmful to my computer. Can someone help me/guide me how to remove this virus application? Im not a computer guy and i need help because this is the only computer i have and i dont want to mess it up because i will have nowhere to fix it due to coronavirus. I've tried to uninstall it from control panel but its not working and i also tried to delete its files from the c drive but it wont let me. Can someone please help me and guide me? Im slightly worried. Edit: Thanks a lot to everyone who commented here and gave advice on how to fix it, i very much appreciate it. As of now, the virus/malware seems to be gone as i cannot find any of the files i saw before i followed your advice. Also, the application has disappeared from the control panel uninstallation page so it seems fine now. Once again, thanks to you all. Have a great day! [link] [comments]
Stuck on 'welcome' screen after entering password. Posted: 01 May 2020 09:35 AM PDT Sorry for formatting, I'm on my phone. I use windows 8 and I tried to log in but it was stuck on the 'welcome' screen, so I turned it off and tried to get into safe mode. Didn't work, it kept loading forever. I am at my wits end, I have everything backed up, but none of it is compatible on my phone and this laptop is the only one in the house. I've tried everything, been through more forums than I can count trying to fix this issue but nothing is working. EDIT: ok, so I think I figured it out (sort of). I realised that when my laptop was turned off, the little light bulb icon on the bottom was flashing orange but was blue when I turned it on. So I took it off charge, let it load for around an hour (whilst not charging) then plugged it back in and turned it on. It loaded fine and fast. I'm not entirely sure what caused it to bug out, or why taking it off charge fixed it, but it did and hopefully this will help someone down the road. [link] [comments]

Something keeps 'cancelling' my screen saver. How can I tell what? Posted: 01 May 2020 04:20 PM PDT This has started fairly recently. Seemingly at random my PC screen will come on while I'm not using it (the "screen saver" is just a black screen). Prior to this the PC was switched on, not on standby, but the monitor was asleep. It wakes up as if I had moved the mouse, yet I haven't. I'm fairly sure it's not just a vibration moving the mouse. How can I tell what is causing my PC to leave the 'idle' state? I have looked in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System but no entry is made there. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Fails to boot, Fails to recover. Posted: 01 May 2020 03:50 PM PDT Title mostly explains it, but I'l go into more detail. I got a relatives Lenovo Laptop, stating that it no longer booted. I tried to re-install windows keeping files, but it didn't work and failed. Thought I'd try check disk, but of course I did nothing. Is there a way to fix windows without having to delete the files or manually transfer them over to another PC? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 PC can't play audio on Toshiba TV through HDMI Posted: 01 May 2020 07:20 PM PDT I cannot hear any audio from my Toshiba television when I connect my PC to it through HDMI. I've had this Toshiba television for a number of years and have never had issues with it — connecting to my PC or otherwise. I got a new computer in November 2019. It has Windows 10 and has worked just fine. This exact PC and this exact TV have worked together before with no audio issues. I typically connect my HDMI cable to the television to play controller-focused video games (Sekiro, Outer Wilds, etc.) A few weeks ago, I could no longer hear sound from the television when connecting through HDMI. I believe this is a windows problem: - The same HDMI port on the television will work with other inputs (Nintendo Switch, Amazon Firestick, etc.). All play audio. - Different HDMI cables don't change the result. - The volume mixer will show sound is being played, but it also does that for other devices in my sound devices and I don't know what any of them do (two are referred to as "S2719DGF 2- NVIDIA High Definition Audio") - I have already tried uninstalling "High Definition Audio" from Device Manager and restarting my computer. - I have already tried updating the drivers for ALL of my sound devices. - And again, this TV worked with this computer a few months ago, but now it stopped. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
PC booting to 1 screen every time, requires restart every boot to show second monitor Posted: 01 May 2020 03:38 AM PDT as the title says my newbuilt pc boots to my primary monitor (hdmi) only and windows doesn't detect my secondary (dvi) until after restarting the machine. Does anyone know how to fix this? My 15s boot time I was looking forward to with a new SSD is now 45s. [link] [comments]
Trojan won’t delete/can’t be found Posted: 30 Apr 2020 09:44 PM PDT Windows defender keeps picking up a Trojan, but it won't let me delete it, and the folder it's supposedly in doesn't exist (I deleted the thing it originally came from, that might be why) I ran malwarebytes and it didn't pick it up. Any help with this? [link] [comments]
Sudden change of personalization & desktop background Posted: 01 May 2020 06:41 PM PDT Hello, Something very odd happened today. I had run a Nortan Full Scan on my laptop computer running Windows 10 Pro and, according to the event history, the computer idled to sleep. When I woke it up several hours later, the Norton application was not active, my desktop background was changed to one of the default images, my theme had been switched from dark to light, and my color accent had been switched to default (pulling some accent color that matches with the background). All my files are still present and none of them had been opened/closed/changed. It doesn't seem any updates were installed. The only other questions I see regarding something similar is with unregistered Windows 10 turning the task bar white, but this isn't exactly my issue. Needless to say I got a bit startled. Does anyone else have experience with this? Should I be concerned about someone having remote access? For what it's worth Norton Power Eraser didn't pick up any threats and any continued scans don't detect anything. Thank you for reading! [link] [comments]
Realtek Audio HD Manager Gaming Headset Issue Posted: 01 May 2020 06:32 PM PDT I just got the Steelseries Arctis 3 today, which is an analog gaming headset as opposed to USB. it comes with a splitter which I need as my Eluktronics P650HP6 has separate audio and mic ports. Unfortunately, my Realtek HD Audio Manager does not want to let the headset and the headset's microphone to be recognized at the same time, it will only do one or the other. Plugging in the headphones works, but then plugging in the mic disables the headphones while enabling the mic, and vice versa. After tons and tons of googling I think I've managed to parse out that the advanced settings for the Realtek Manager will allow me to fix this, but my Audio Manager does not have the advanced settings button in the top right where its supposed to be. Is there anything I can do about this? I've tried installing every driver I can find both from Eluktronics and Realtek direct, and tons of other people seem to have this same issue, but I can't find a straight answer on how to fix it. Any help is very much appreciated!!! [link] [comments]

What's the best way to learn PowerShell? Posted: 01 May 2020 01:45 AM PDT I have some working knowledge of both Python and UNIX shell scripting. I like the idea of piping commands between .NET objects as opposed to streams of plaintext, and since Windows is the only OS I use nowadays, I figured I'd reach out to this community for some guidance. What are the best guides for learning PowerShell task automation? [link] [comments]
Windows update failing, saying “undoing changes made to your pc” over and over again Posted: 01 May 2020 05:42 PM PDT So for a few months now my laptop has been saying it needs to do an update, I've let it do this update probably 5 or 6 times now and every single time after about an hour of updating it says "undoing changes made to your pc" and reverts back to how it was before. I was hoping someone here would be able to help me either get the update done and let me know why it's not competing or can help me stop it automatically doing it if I don't catch the update notification in time to postpone it every hour. Thank you in advance! ❤️ [link] [comments]
Windows 10 UI slow and laggy on high-end laptop Posted: 01 May 2020 05:26 PM PDT So, I have an HP Elitebook 1050 G1 with the following specs: Intel i7 8750H with Intel UHD Graphics 630 Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Max-Q 16 GB RAM 512 GB SSD (NVMe) (I can give further details if necessary) The problem is that Windows 10 feels very slow and sluggish. I have seen it work way better on a Dell XPS 15 with nearly the same specs. I don't think that my laptop is too weak to handle Windows, there must be another problem. I am even running on 1080p instead of 2160p, which improved it but it is nowhere good. The animations are not smooth at all, especially switching desktops or opening Multitasking View, they run at 25 FPS at best. Sometimes programs open really slow. All my drivers are up to date and working fine apparently, I have done multiple resets of windows and still the same result. But it is very frustrating that a 2000€ laptop cannot handle windows. It seems fine though when hooking up to a monitor where it uses the discrete graphics, so I am speculating that the problem is the integrated graphics. Appreciate any help:) [link] [comments]
