- I downloaded a file from browser and it has colon (:) in its filename. The file in file manager shows 0 bytes in size but the size on disk of the file is exactly waht it should be. How can I retrieve that file?

I've tried using earphones, but the computer mic can't detect it in the recorder settings. How do I change it? Acer aspire r14, Windows 8.1. My earphones are the stock Samsung earphones Edit: whenever I plugged in my earphones there used to be a pop-up where I had to select which type of device I plugged in. However ever since it disappeared, the mic issue is here. Can anyone tell me how to enable the pop up? Edit 2: there seems to be a static sound in the background when I plug in my earphones. I've tried it with another mic-less earphone but the same problem persists. Edit 3: found issue in edit 2. Issue is resolved when I select line-in function instead of headphones or headset. | Programs/files deleted after updated Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:07 PM PDT My mom's computer recently had an update on 20th, but after we found all the programs and files we're deleted. I found the files in a windows.old folder. But all the programs are still deleted, except one from Razer program for keyboards. Anyone know why this happened? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:25 PM PDT So my laptop (HP Notebook 15-r210ne, runs Windows 10 Insider Fast Ring) has pretty much gone kaput. A GPU problem has rendered video output of any kind near useless. With that in mind, I'm planning on sourcing another laptop (either an Acer or a Dell, both of which come with 500GB hard drives) and swapping this one's 1TB hard drive and 8GB RAM into the new one. Microsoft is about to get rid of control panel and i can't even download nvidia control panel without getting it from the Microsoft store. The Microsoft store apps are like a watered down version of desktop applications and its really annoying. This interface is more for someone with a laptop or a tablet but I'm using neither. | How do I get a shareable link on OneDrive in Win10? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 02:46 PM PDT using the web browser version of OneDrive if I try to share a folder so music students can upload to it, I select "can edit", but when I click "copy link" it hangs on creating shareable link forever. As i'm planning on building myself a PC (for the first time) and making less use of my current laptop, I want to completely factory reset my laptop in order to get rid of all the junk I probably have downloaded the last years and to get a fresh experience whenever I need my laptop again. I'm planning on making a back up of all my files, photo's & video's on an external hard drive & in the cloud. I have little game software downloaded and via Steam I hope te be able to re download them. I don't care about game progress at this point. I like to play my switch which goes on the main monitor, and have any other information on the top monitor (like guides or whatever). The only issue is that even when I switch inputs on my main monitor, it still counts the main monitor as being active (even though the switch games are "over" it). So what I do is I go into display settings and under "multiple displays" I choose "show only on 2". So now what I'd like is to make a program (script, gui button, rainmeter addon maybe?) that lets me quickly change this setting without having to go into the settings menu. I feel like it's possible but I've got limited programming knowledge so I'm not even sure how I'd call what the setting is. [link] [comments]  | ||

Unfortunately, one issue remains for which Google didn't seem to have the answer: I've set up Photo Viewer as default, and much to my surprise I've found that its previous/next image buttons (or left/right keys, if you're like me) load the image that is previous/next alphabetically, as opposed to previous/next in the file list of the relevant folder (for instance, I sort a lot of my images by date or file type). | Shrinking Windows XP C: Partition Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:06 AM PDT Hello, I need help shrinking my C: (Windows) Partition in XP SP3. I currently have a 100gb IDE drive and I would like to shrink my C: partition (which takes up my my whole drive) and shrink it to 40gb so that I can create a 2nd NTFS Partition in which I would like to install Windows 7. (Dual boot XP and 7, XP on the 1st partition[40gb] and 7 on the 2. partition[60gb]). Does anybody know how to do this? Around 4gb of the C: Partition is used and If possible I want to just shrink it, NOT deleting it and creating a new partition. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments]  | ||

| How to bypass PC comapability when upgrading Windows 10 Posted: 28 Apr 2020 02:05 PM PDT Hello, I have an old laptop running Windows 7 x32-bit with an ancient celeron cpu and 1GB of RAM, I've managed to update to Windows 10 x64-bit using a DVD, but the version of Windows 10 on that DVD is quite old (2015) so I wanted to update it using Windows update assistant, here's the problem, it says that my PC doesn't have enough RAM to upgrade to a newer version, so what can I do to bypass this compability check? I can't add more RAM either since this laptop is so old it uses DDR2 ram and it's hard to find here in my local market, any tips or workarounds? Thanks. [link] [comments]  |
