My 2nd OnePlus 8 Pro came in...still having the screen issues. Returning both devices. Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:49 AM PDT So last week I bought my first OnePlus 8 Pro. Great device to use, but, as we all know by now, its also having the sceen issues. I installed the latest update, not a single improvement. Green smudge all over the screen at low and high brightness. So i decided to buy a 2nd one, to see and compare. Then returning the bad one. But guess what... My second device does not have the green issue.... But that one has purple/red tints and a status bar "burn in"/retention😤 I know its a lottery, but this is so exhausting. And during these corona times there is not a single store open. So the trial and error method of returning and hoping for a good one is just not an option. Also the pre installed screenprotector came loose after 2 days of use... 🤷 Now ill be returning both devices and I will close my Oneplus chapter. I really love using the device, a real complete package, but the screen is one of those things that makes or breakes a phone. OnePlus 7 Pro ruined front facing cameras for me... Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:51 AM PDT I can't imagine buying a phone without a pop up camera now.. I enjoy having a clean FFC every time i take a video call, I like the no smudges on the camera after taking a long voice call, i love the absence of micro scratches from the constant cleaning. We need a special edition with pop up camera every few years, I wouldn't trade this feature even for an under screen camera. I bought the OnePlus One years ago, the 7 Pro was the only phone to get me back to OnePlus. From OnePlus 6T to OnePlus 8 Pro - Personal Thoughts Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:09 PM PDT So as of Friday, i've been using the 8 Pro (12+256) after upgrading from my perfectly fine 6T (8+256) primarily for the screen and camera improvements. Over the past few days, these have been my general takeaways from the experience thusfar: Feel/Design Both phones, to me, feel great in the hand. I have bigger hands, so the increased size of the 8 Pro is just barely still comfortable, and I am able to reach most of the screen without awkward hand adjustments. That being said, the curved screen on the 8 Pro took about two days to adjust to, since i've never had a phone with a curved display before. Because of that, the 8 Pro feels...slippery? For lack of a better word. I can't really describe it. Maybe I just need to adjust a bit more, but the 6T definitely felt more secure in my hand. The included case with the 8 Pro is noticeably more flimsy than the included one with the 6T, so this might be the culprit as well. Overall, both of my devices have matte finishes, so they both feel relatively secure in my hand without a case on as well. Display One of the main reasons I decided to grab the 8 Pro. The upgrade from 1080p to 1440p wasn't crazy. I owned an LG G3 and G5 with 1440p displays and, while there is an increase in sharpness, is not anything that will necessarily leave you speechless. An improvement, but nothing too important to me. The biggest desire was the 120Hz display. Now **this** is the real showstopper. My computer monitors are either 120Hz or 144Hz, so I knew that there was going to be a noticeable improvement to the smoothness when scrolling through text, apps, or anything of the sort, as well as general system fluidity. However, this brought the joy of higher refresh rate back to me again. Text never seems to smear or blur when scrolling, everything feels more responsive, and is generally a great joy to use. It's something that you can't really grasp in videos - you truly just have to experience it for yourself. My experience with the curved edges is more or less run of the mill, with the only exception being I can't say i've noticed any accidental presses from the palm of my hand or anything due to the curved screen. Besides the feel in the hand described earlier, I don't love or hate the edges, but they're there. Camera Personally, I feel that most upper-mid range and flagship devices never really have a "bad" camera. Not every camera is Pixel or iPhone quality, but most are still great performers and hold their own weight. I never had any real qualms with the camera on the 6T. I felt that I got some great shots with adequate lighting and was overall very satisfied with the camera performance. That being said, the 8 Pro has further improved on this and I believe the camera upgrades are noticeable when compared to the 6T. Dynamic range in colorful photos is better on the 8 Pro main camera. The wide angle camera is something I missed from my G5, so i'm happy to have it back, since it gives some unique shots in some scenarios. I have not messed around much with the telephoto or color filter cameras much, so I can't talk much about those. Overall, i'm more than happy with the camera performance of the 8 Pro. Other Features These are just some general, quick thoughts on some other differences in the feature set of each phone: -Stereo speakers is a welcome plus. It's not often that I play music or watch videos through the phone's speakers, but the speaker system on the 8 Pro has more depth and clarity. -IP rating wasn't a big selling point to me. General consensus is that the recent OnePlus devices have been water resistant without the certification. Never had a run-in with water on my 6T, nor my 8 Pro as of now. -Wireless charging was, to my surprise, something I use quite often now. My G3, G5, and 6T all had no wireless charging, so I never gave it a second thought. I figured it would be the same deal with the 8 Pro. I received the OnePlus wireless charger with the phone, and...honestly, I haven't even plugged the phone in to charge yet. I have the wireless charger at my desk and have only been using that to charge the phone. It has the speed of Warp Charge with the convenience of no wires. Plus, saves a bit of wear and tear on the USB port as time goes on. Pretty surprised with this, but I can say i'm glad to have wireless charging now. -Hole punch doesn't bother me, nor get in the way of any media consumption. Only thing that bugs me is the hole punch being in the corner rather than centered. I liked the 6T teardrop due to it's symmetry, it made the phone look sleek. The hole punch still looks nice, but it being off center kind of irks me. Super small detail, but figured i'd include it. -Fingerprint scanner is faster and more reliable on the 8 Pro than it was on the 6T. Never had any major issues with the 6T, but in general I don't have to fight the fingerprint scanner on my 8 Pro as much. -Battery life is good. I go about a day and some change cycling from between 85-90% down to 15-20% on 1440p/120Hz and auto brightness with general Snapchat, texting, Boost, and games. YMMV though. Overall, i'd say it's a pretty sizable jump from the 6T and i'm happy that I made the choice to do it. The 6T is still a fantastic phone and it has replaced my friend's aging S7 and he thinks it's incredible. If there's anything else you want me to compare, let me know, i'd be happy to give you some insight. Hopefully this helps any 6T owners on the fence of grabbing the 8 Pro! Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:14 AM PDT Just wanted to let you guys know that I've been using my OP 7T for 4 days now and wanted to give my initial thoughts. I remember I bought my S7 for $800 when it came out 4 years ago. Seeing that I got the OP 7T for $500 is just amazing value in my mind. Sorry this got so long but here goes:
Anyways if you stayed this long, thanks for reading. Overall I'm really happy with my decision and I'm so excited to be a part of the OnePlus fam. [link] [comments]
I'm starting to be scared, need some advice Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:16 PM PDT I got my OP8 Pro yesterday, with the popup box it's really an insane value, the packaging was excellent and it was a real surprise, for 899e you can NOT get a better deal imo. The phone is excellent, but I'm starting to be scared. My phone is happily not a mess like some unfortunate people have. The only issue is the very light green tint in the Google app and I have to be in a completely black room to even notice it, for exemple with my laptop next to me I can't see it at all. So for me it's fine, but .. What if it's just about time for my phone to get the issues ? What if the screens are actually built with a poor quality ? Where I bought it it's covered for two years in case there is a problem, but what if it's just a flaw within the phone ? What if I get a problem, get a replacement unit and the replacement unit still has problems ? I've seen tons of people describing that exact story with OnePlus. I strongly believe all the tint issues will be fixed soon, but I can't stop thinking about the fact that major problems may come in the future like retention, burn or something. I'm gonna sell my 7T Pro after I've decided what to do, so I'll be without a phone if I have to send the 8 Pro for repair, which would honestly piss me off REALLY hard, to the point that'd probably be my last OnePlus phone because I hate being in trouble. I really wanna stick with OnePlus, because it's either OnePlus or Apple, and I don't really see myself spending probably 1500 euros for the next 12 Pro Max when I'm having an actually better experience on OxygenOS. But if that's what it takes to get good quality hardware ... What do you guys think ? Get a refund and keep my 7T Pro to then buy the next iPhone ? Or keeping my phone hoping that green tints will be fixed and that the quality of the screen is good and that there's no reason to have bigger problems in the future ? Thanks for your help ! How are Oneplus 7 / 7T Pro + GCam VS Pixel 4? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:21 PM PDT I'm really interested in buying either 7 or 7T Pro since their price is well within my budget range. Reviews say that Pixel 4/ 4XL are better in photography department, but coming from Razer Phone 2 with GCam, I know the app will improve photo quality by a huge margin. My question now is, how does 7T/ 7T Pro with Gcam (with Aux lense mod) perform compared to Pixel 4/ 4XL? Will the Oneplus duos perform the same if not better than the Google 4 series? Please share your experience! [link] [comments]
Unexpected delivery from oneplus Posted: 28 Apr 2020 10:04 AM PDT I received my op 8 pro this Friday but now I just got another message about a delivery from oneplus expected to arrive tomorrow. I live in Europe and we had as promo a chance to win a wireless charger if we preordered the 8 pro, could that be it? In my oneplus account there is no info about this delivery or winning the wireless charger. Posted: 28 Apr 2020 02:51 PM PDT I too have the green smudge at low brightness. Dark greys are green and red, and there is a bar running from the front camera to the right. Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:14 PM PDT Yay. So after over an hour on the phone trying to switch activation to my new oneplus 7t. losing the sim tray while on the phone, having the tech rep sit on the phone with me while being a hype man for over an hour (you can find it! I believe in you!) so I can find sim tray. Hung up after over an hour and having him switch activation back to my dying Sony... Only to find the sim tray 5 minutes after hanging up.. in my shoe.. that I was still wearing. LMFAO say hello to your new adopted brother OnePlus family 😃 I'm here [link] [comments]

8 Pro Step Tracking Google Fit Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:48 PM PDT Is anyone having issues with their 8 Pro tracking their steps in Google Fit? Just went for a run and the route it tracked was half wrong. I need it to work accurately because my work is doing this new app thing that accumulates points for a health insurance discount and the number of steps a day helps with that. Extracting data from a dead phone? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:59 PM PDT Have had my OnePlus 3 for 3 years now and it just died tonight. Tried the power + volume combo and no response. I figure I will just pick up a 6T from T-Mobile, but I have data I would like to get off the old phone. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do this? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:12 PM PDT Have really been thinking of investing in a pair of wireless earbuds for my Op 7T and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or warnings to consider? I've seen that Samsung products work best with Samsung phones so was wondering if there was any make that works best with OP or if they're all the same? TIA! Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:32 PM PDT Hello. Quick question for everyone. I'm set to take delivery of a 7 Pro on Friday. It seems like it's the global, unlocked version. Does that work with RCS out of the box, on the native SMS app?? Second, can you flash different builds, like on Samsung, where you can flash an unlocked model ROM, or you can flash a locked carrier one, to get the carrier-specific features?? Thanks. Excited to join the 1+ family!! [link] [comments]

Oneplus 8 - USB Tethering (latency and saturated bandwidth interface issues) Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:42 AM PDT Like an increasing number of others I've 'cut the cord' and only use my mobile for internet access. I use USB tethering to share the data with my other devices. I've done a few benchmarks to determine the USB tethering bandwidth and latency between my recently bought Oneplus 8 and it's tethered device. For testing purposes I connected it directly to my laptop and booted into Windows and Ubuntu. A few issues cropped up that I thought worth highlighting to see if there's anything that can be done to boost them and to get results from others. Relatively high latencies were observed as were connectivity issues during high bandwidth throughput. Results as below Latency (average of 100 pings, other devices added for comparison)Oneplus8
Moto G6 Play (Android 9)
Samsung XCover3 (Android 5)
The latency results shows that
Given the push for 5G for higher bandwidth and lower latencies (when SA 5G NR is implemented at least) it's a step backward to have increased latency times on the user equipment. This will add to the overall latency. It would be interesting to see what latency times other people are getting over USB tethering not just for the Oneplus 8 but for other makes and models too. Bandwidth (measured using iperf3 server on the laptop and client on the Oneplus via USB3 average of 10 seconds)Download
Upload
The iperf tests caused stability issues on the Oneplus 8 whilst using USB3. The USB interface would often crash and reset (confirmed via crash log in logcat). No stability issues were identified using USB2 or WiFi. USB2 bandwidth was maxed out so figures not included in the results. Max Wifi speeds were around 550Mbit/s using 5Ghz WiFi 5. I don't have another Wifi 6 device to test with. The bandwidth results shows that
With 5G already hitting over 1Gbit/s the tethering bandwidth over USB3 is now the limiting factor. There's plenty of bandwidth available on the underlying USB3 protocol so its up to manufacturers to push the envelope. It's worth mentioning that Oneplus are still one of only a small selection of manufacturers that have implemented USB3 so this is worth commending. Most are still releasing phones restricted to USB2 speeds. I don't have another mobile with USB3 to test with. As with the latency findings it would be interesting to see what results others are getting for USB3 tethering for both the Oneplus 8 and other devices. App used for testing on the mobiles was Hurricane Electrics 'he.net Network Tools' [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:22 PM PDT So I was going to jump ship from pixel 2xl to the 7pro. Unfortunately, TMobile is out of stock. Any idea if they'll restock? If not - should I jump on a promo offer and go for the 8 instead? I'm torn. Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:26 AM PDT I have a 6T that has uniformity issues that I can see with DC dimming ON, and I have literally only noticed them last night after getting the phone about a week after launch. If I hadn't been reading about the 8 Pro issues, I probably still wouldn't have noticed. To clarify, I wasn't looking for them, it's like I was just tuned in to it. This is probably because I very rarely use my phone in the conditions that I was using it in (absolutely pitch black), and because I am paying more attention to the content on the screen rather than the panel itself [link] [comments] |
