| Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:35 AM PDT DDR4 launched at 2133MHz CL15, at a time when 2400MHz CL11 DDR3 was common. This led to some instances where a 4790K + DDR3 was outperforming the 6700K + DDR4 in memory intensive tasks. DDR5 most likely won't be a magical instant leap in performance. It will need a few years to mature and beat high end DDR4. Edit - I'm trying to say don't be worried about buying into DDR4 now, it'll take a while for DDR5 to match it on price and performance. | Update on RX 5700XT vs RTX 2070 Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:10 PM PDT So i asked the same reddit (on another account) if i should change from 5700 XT to 2070. I asked this because i was experiencing Load/Performance issues. Now I am making this update to advise other 5700XT users experiencing the same problem or just for anyone interested. Someone said the RX 5700 XT is more similar to a 2080 and 2070 is worse (wich is true) and i provided my GPU load percentages/What performance issues i were experiencing. In the end of the day we came to the conclution that it may not be any issue and the card is just not running at a high load when at lower graphics etc. Anyhow 2 days later i bought the 2070 and my plan was to return the card if it was performing worse with than my 5700 XT i would try to return the card (note i was using the same components in my PC when testing the different cards and they are the following: Ryzen 5 2600 2x8 16GB RAM 3200 Mhz. Asus B450-M Motherboard. 850W PSU. After I installed the 2070 these were the results.
My experience. I have had problems with my RX 5700XT since i got it and it has been the worst experience ever with any GPU i have ever had. I have done everything you can possibly think about and i even had my 5700XT sent in for review by the manufacturers (wich i got told nothing is wrong). I have heard about many others who also switched to RTX cards after they bought the 5700XT. Why? Off what i understand AMD hasn't realeased a good graphics driver for the 5700XT and need to work on fixing the card via the drivers. Conclution. RX 5700XT is a powerful card but isn't capable of performing as it should for a lot of people. If you are experiencing the same issue i would recommend you take note that you should try and optimize the card to see if anything helps. But for many people it hasn't and some people even switched to RTX cards. I got better performance with a card that should perform worse with lower VRAM etc. Now i know it also depends on the PC itself when it comes to your GPU performance but when a lot of people are experiencing the same issue i think we all know its the GPU's fault in the most cases. So my advise would be to change to any RTX card 2070 and up. For a better experience especially on more FPS based gaming were you need performance over decent 60 fps on high graphics. | Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT Hey guys, I just wanted to update/help everyone who encountered problems when building a new Computer with a PCI Express Riser Cable. My setup was the following: Case: Phanteks Evolv Shift with included PCIe gen 3 riser cable Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X (PCIe gen4) CPU Cooler: Be Quiet Silent Loop 120mm Graphics Card(GPU): Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT (AMD) (PCIe gen4) Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro Wifi (itx PCIe gen 4) RAM: 16GB GSkill Trident Z RGB 3200 SSD: 500GB Samsung Evo 970 Power Supply Unit(PSU): Corsair SF750 I encountered the problem that I wasn't getting a display output and wasn't able to enter the BIOS, no matter how often I checked all cable connections. The itx Motherboard doesn't have a Debugging LED Segement which is displaying the error Code etc... This didn't quite make it easier to figure out what the problem was. At the beginning I simply thought that the graphics card or the riser cable was broken due to the bend of the cable. After that I tested pretty much every component (RAM, GPU, riser cable, SSD, PSU) on my other build (Z370 Intel platform motherboard) and everything worked perfectly. I wasn't able to test the Motherboard or the CPU because I just had one AMD AM4 motherboard and one Ryzen CPU. How I fixed the problem: Just before being about to register a complaint about the CPU and the Motherboard I decided to test all components one more time outside of the case. I finally got a display output plugging the graphics card right into the the Motherboard, checking the BIOS and installed Windows 10 after that. Then I installed all the drivers for my motherboard and the graphics card and it worked flawlessly. The same setup with the risercable was still not working though. So I went back to Youtube and Google finding out that it might be due to the combination of PCIe generation 4 hardware with gen 3 cables. Taking a look into my motherboard manual I found a setting called PCI Express Slot Configuration. Under IO Ports/ Miscellaneous/ PCI Express Slot Configuration then select PCIe gen3... or something like that. From there on I was able to use the PC with the Riser Cable and was able to install everything! Summing it up I suggested to everyone planning to make a similar build with new hardware to set everything up on your desk with your graphics card directly connected to your motherboard first. Then you have to set your PCI Express slot to Generation 3 in the BIOS and that should do the trick. Hopefully I can help someone running into similar problems. I really like this build and want to do something similar, but as this is my first time building my own computer, I thought it'd be better to go with an ATX mid case for ease of access and future upgrades. This is what I have so far, but I figured I should get some feedback before I buy it. I'm debating about getting a different motherboard in case I want to add another graphics card in the future. Also considering getting 32GB of RAM since my current pc has 16GB and doesn't quite keep up. Thoughts? Anywhere I can cut costs? Anywhere I should think about spending more? Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions. Will this be an issue when going to build this PC? or should I upgrade the motherboard or downgrade the CPU?

| Help/advice: PSU overheating and fan not working Posted: 29 Apr 2020 04:19 PM PDT I have the below PSU in a water cooled PC; Fractal Design R3 Newton 1000w (White Edition). I bought this PC prebuilt off another person about 2 years ago and only really noticed this problem last summer when my flat got really warm. I'm hoping someone can suggest something I may be missing as I've tried everything I can think of. Basically the PSU gets really hot to the point the PC will turn off, and the fan inside the PSU never comes on (never has). My other temps (CPU & GPU) are perfect. The PC is really well built but everything is a tight fit in the case, I can take things out if need be but wanted to ask here first. So far without taking the PSU out of the case I have; - Checked for any unplugged fan headers but there are none that I can see. - Felt for a test switch to check if the PSU is functioning properly but couldn't find one, does anyone know if this PSU has one? | Help!! Cpu overheating and restarting pc when playing games? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:47 PM PDT I just built my pc yesterday and about 30 secs- 2 minutes after playing a game, my screen goes black and my pc resets. Upon further investigation, I realized that my CPU was overheating (around 100c when playing and around 50-60c when just web browsing). I already reapplied thermal paste, reapplied the cooler and all that and it's still happening? help? Sorry I don't know much about pcs and this is the first build I've ever done. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. This computer is going to be used for biological scientific coding (mostly in R & python) and as a media center. The coding should be fairly light (heavy things will be done at the university) but I still need to have some umph for running larger analyses. For the media center aspect, I'm looking for it to be fairly quiet and energy efficient. I'm planning on running Ubuntu, and potentially dualbooting in Windows. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) I do want to do some light gaming, but it's not the focus on the computer, so as long as I can run current games with average performance I'm happy on that end. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? $600-900, and I'm planning on buying parts used when possible. In what country are you purchasing your parts? The rest of the item will be arriving tomorrow and Friday. | Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 vs. MSI Geforce GTX 1650 super Posted: 29 Apr 2020 04:23 PM PDT First-time PC build with the Ryzen 5 2600. I understand that these two GPUs have very similar performance, however the Gigabyte RX 580 is about $240 and the MSI 1650 super is about $280 (in Canada)... I was wondering if that 40$ is worth risking it on the Gigabyte RX 580 as I've heard of some heat and fan speed/noise issues with it in the past. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. It's WD 500GB, and on it, is my life (2013-2020), so its very important to me. When i started to boot up the new PC, i just froze and forgot how to install WIN10 without deleting all my files.. I bought new SSD which i intended for the OS. If it matters, i had WIN7 on my HDD. I have no idea how to do install WIN10 without deleting my files :( Any help will be appreciated, and thanks in advance. English is my second language, so my bad for any typos. | Upgrading CPU broke everything Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:54 PM PDT Ok maybe the title is a tad dramatic but I've been messing with this damn computer for almost 7 hours now. I bought a Ryzen 5 3600 to replace my 1500X, and went to install it. Like an idiot I forgot to update BIOS beforehand so of course it didn't work. My Asus ROG Strix B350-F has a bright yellow light indicator next to the RAM, a little bit of research told me that it meant a RAM issue so I tried every possible combination of where I could place my 2 8GB DDR4 sticks, individually or both at once, to no avail. Upon realizing that I forgot to update BIOS I put in my old CPU and (after a bit of fiddling) got it back to how it was before and got it to boot. I followed a guide and successfully updated my BIOS, and went back to the new CPU. Lo and behold it still showed the yellow light and nothing else. At this point I emailed the store I bought the CPU from saying I'm fairly certain it's faulty, is there anything you'd like me to try before I send it back. Defeated, I went back to my old CPU only to find that it now doesn't work in the same way, yellow error light and nothing else. I am now without a computer which is necessary for me to do my work. | GPU fan making a ticking noise Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:46 PM PDT Hello, I just build my pc about 6 weeks ago and everything has been running great. Recently, however, a strange, intermittent sound became audible from my pc. I opened up the case and figured out it was the GPU fans, and the sound appears to happen in sync with the fans speeding up and slowing down at maybe a 3 second interval, usually when I'm just browsing or watching yt videos. If I start a game, the sound goes away. Sometimes it's not there even while doing the activities I described, so I don't think it's a loose wire or anything as both fans appear to do it one after the other. Any ideas? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 03:19 PM PDT This is my second build ever, so I think it's worth a second set of eyes on the parts I've selected to make sure I didn't goof. This build's purpose is going to be primarily gaming. I'm willing to spend upwards of 1300 US, but I'm also not looking to build a monster for a monster's sake. The games I'm looking to play are MMOs so I'm looking for frame rate more than anything else, though running ReShade for some screenshots is an appealing thought. There's no video card here. For now, I'm going to cannibalize the 1050Ti from my current build (unless there's some reason I shouldn't do that) and look to upgrading the video card during Black Friday or some earlier sale if the performance seems decent enough to hold until then.
