    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Under or around $1000, looking for best possible value

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Preferably new, doesn't really matter though

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Needs to be portable and have a decent battery life, preferably a sturdy build over a more flimsy one, needs to have optimal performance for video calls and office software, so a good Wi-Fi chip is a must.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

A neutral build is preferable, nothing trying to be over-the-top thin/light or bulky.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Videoconferencing software akin to and including Zoom and Skype. Needs to be able to work well with office software like spreadsheet editors and word processors, as well as be able to browse the internet at reasonable stability.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

      N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Needs to have a reliable build. Needs a reasonable selection of I/O, including USB ports (including USB-C), Ethernet, HDMI, etc. An optical drive is welcome but not required. A touch screen interface is also welcome but not required.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Basically just need a laptop at a good value that is optimal for videoconferencing and running office programs.

    USD, Under $500

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:00 AM PDT

    Under $500

Would prefer a used/refurbished due to the lower prices

    Priority is gaming and performance

Weight/thickness not much of a factor

Screen size at least 15.6 inches

Mostly gaming, hoping to get around 60 FPS on at least medium settings

A backlit keyboard would be preferable but isn't a necessity

Hoping to be able to add more storage, and would prefer if it was SSD not HDD

    Thanks for any help!

    Office Work/Programming/Light Gaming 2-in-1 for under 1000

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:27 AM PDT

    **LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE**

    * **Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:**

$1000 USD is my absolute maximum, preferably below. USA.

    * **Are you open to refurbs/used?**

Open to refurbs only if it works like it was new w/ no battery issues and is from a reputable seller.

    * **How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?**

I would like a 2-in-1. Build quality, performance, and battery life are pretty equal to me.

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Light enough so it's not a nuisance to carry around.

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

    13" or above

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

I am going to be doing some light photo/video editing, nothing intensive, just for an occasional school project. I will also be running Visual Studio/Visual Studio Code and I will be playing minecraft every once in a while.

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Good keyboard and touchpad are necessities. I need good build quality for this to go for the long-haul. And I need at least 1 USB-A port. I understand many laptops these days don't have them, but I hate using dongles. Also, I would like at least 256GB of storage, preferably 512GB. I would also like to have as much upgradeability as possible. If RAM isn't possible, at least the storage

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

    Thanks

General Use/ Moderate Gaming - $1,500-2,000 USD Budget, US Purchase.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:27 AM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Purchasing in the US, using USD. My total budget would be $1,500 - $2,000, I don't mind spending less if there is a good laptop that fits my needs.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Battery life is important, but I mainly use this at home as I no longer have to commute to University. But I do travel a couple of times a year to visit my family so I would like to have a decent battery. I would like to have decent build quality as I am rough on my personal effects. I try not to be, but it happens.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
As I said earlier, I am not commuting much anymore with my laptop so I don't need something ultralight as I do now, but I also don't want something super heavy.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
I like having my 17 in screen, I wouldn't like to go much smaller.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I've listed my games down below. I am a software engineer so I do run Intellij, and Jetbrains products along with a VM at times, and have some local DB's set up.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I do game every now and then. I typically play games such as Minecraft, tabletop simulator, some Wow Classic, Plauge Inc. Spintires, CIV VI, games like that. On my current laptop, it's at the lowest graphic's settings on some of these. So I would like something that is a bit better and can offer me some better graphics. I don't play a lot on my PC though.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I would like reliable build quality, at least 3 USB ports, a thunderbolt port, HDMI port, ethernet port, and an SSD. Keyboard/touch pads are low on my list as I do have an external keyboard and mouse. But I need enough ports to plug that in as well as a headset. I would also like at least 1080p display.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
My current laptop is a Dell XPS 15 9550, and my grips about it are Dell has a ton of updates and I feel like the updates never end. I also need at least 1 more USB port (currently 2), and I don't like having to put my graphics on my games at the lowest setting. Probably why I don't game too much on it. I do enjoy the backlight on the keyboard and how sleek it is, as well as the thin bezel around the screen.

Laptop for beginner coding/editing - Ireland ~£400 and under if possible

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:14 AM PDT

Looking for a laptop for under £400 if possible, wanting to try and learn some beginner coding and video editing during the lockdown.

Open to a refurbed or used laptop if its in decent enough shape.

Priority would most likely be the performance and battery life.

Preferably light but not really top concern.

As long as the screen isn't too small.

Editing programme most likely to be Adobe Premium Pro and unsure of which coding programme will be used at the minute.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Can someone help me find a laptop for my girlfriend?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 04:45 AM PDT

    Hi r/SuggestALaptop!

This whole coronavirus pandemic has been nice for people looking for more time with their significant other - our problem is that we live in different countries and can't see each other.

That is why we have been looking for laptops she can use for 'casual' gaming stuff. We have been looking at the HP Pavillion Gaming laptop, but some online reviews are scaring us away.

She will mostly play games like Zelda, Sims, Cuphead etc.

Our budget is around 1260 USD.

    Upgrade or New laptop

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:32 AM PDT

I have a Toshiba qosmio F60 Model NO. PQF65A-033002 which runs in a pirated version of windows 7 and has a worn battery which last 2 minutes.

Is this worth trying to fix and upgrade or should I just get a new laptop.

Also I have no idea how computers work and please give me cheap recommendations If I need to get a new laptop . I just need something to run word and google chrome at the same time and not move in slow motion but a little extra cost to run popular games wouldn't hurt either.

Asus Tuf fx505dd vs Lenovo L340

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:06 AM PDT

My price range is 550-850 ish dollars, and I've narrowed down my options to these two laptops and I wanted some more perspective on this, since reviews seem mixed. These two laptops have basically the same specs (same gtx 1050, 8gb ram and 512 ssd), albeit the Lenovo has a i5 9300h and the Asus has the ryzen 5 3550h, which is weaker. The way I see it, is that the Asus costs about 40 dollars less and has the TUF build properties and more gaming features at a cost of some cpu horsepower. This would be fine, however I do plan on playing some cpu heavy games like BeamNG and Cities Skylines. My country is Bulgaria if that helps, thanks in advance.

Laptop I had settled on appears sold out - need other suggestions

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:36 PM PDT

I will attach the form in the comments, but wanted to explain situation first.

About 3 months ago, I had settled on purchasing an Eluktronics Max 17, but after finally reaching a point where I feel financially comfortable enough to make a purchase, it looks like it's sold out everywhere.

I need a machine that will be able to handle content creation on Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop) and will be able to handle modern games. I had settled on the Max 17 because of the:

    17 inch screen

    RTX 2070 Max-P

    32 or 64 GB RAM

    i7 9750h

    2TB SSD

Not to mention it's lightweight and I was going to upgrade to the Thermal Grizzly cooling.

In the meantime I'll keep looking for that version of the laptop, but want to know if anyone has more suggestions. I haven't kept up with any new laptop releases in the last 3 or so months.

Again, the form is attached in the comments. Willing to spend up to $2500 for a good machine.

1500 CHF (=USD) range (Switzerland) - Looking for a silent laptop with solid cooling

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:55 AM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
~1.500 CHF (pretty much 1/1 USD). Country of purchase : Switzerland
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      no
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Form factor : normal laptop or 2-in-1. Looking for excellent build quality, good screen and at least decent built-in speakers, performance does not need to be amazing as I have a very powerful desktop PC for heavy use. Battery life does not matter much.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Weight is not important, thinness is a bit more important, but not a dealbreaker.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      preferably around 15"
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I will use it for multitrack audio recording (Adobe Audition) (only recording, mixing and editing will be done on my desktop PC, recording multitrack doesn't require too much power), playing hearthstone, watching videos and casting full HD videos to my chromecast (no 4k).
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      Only hearthstone, fps don't matter.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Touch screen would be nice, but if the trackpad is good, I'm happy without touch screen. Noise and cooling are my main concerns (see below)
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I often play hearthstone outside, in the sun or when it's hot, or watch videos in bed, so the cooling system efficiency is very important to me. I used to have a MBP (2012), and the fan would go ham just watching youtube in bed, which was annoying. I want it to be silent for light use, but it still needs to be able to cool down properly when needed.
Now I have a Surface Pro (2018 I think, i5 fanless version), it's pretty good for my use, but my main issues with it are: the form factor is not ideal for audio recording, it can't cast videos to my chromecast properly (stutters, low FPS, I have to use my desktop) and it throttles very quickly when I use it outside or in the sun.

Looking for casual gaming and overall fair laptop around 300,000 HUF (900$) in Hungary

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:32 AM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

My budget is around 300.000 HUF, roughly 900 USD

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      Absolutely

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Not an ultrabook, but on the thinner side, and it shouldn't look like a gaming laptop

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

As I stated, I'm not looking for an ultrabook, but I would carry around it quite a lot so yeah portability plays a role

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      15 would be great

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I edit my photos a lot (Lightroom) and play lighter games

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

I play LoL, CSGO and GTA Online, but I guess if I could run GTAV on low with 60FPS, I'd be more than happy

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

A backlit keyboard, and a reliable build quality would be nice

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I know am asking a lot for this price, and feel free to demolish my dreams, but my laptop almost blew up recently, and with this learning-from-home bs I need a laptop as soon as I can find one, but I'm only looking for using this laptop for 2 years, and after I am planning to give it to my sister (that's why I wouldn't want an RGB monster with agressive looks). Hope you can help me out:)

Laptop for Web Design and Gaming

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:40 AM PDT

Hey guys. Need a new laptop for sure. Want to play some middle of the road games and use things like Photoshop.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

~600 CAD, more is absolutely necessary but preferably not.

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      No.

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance is all that really matters. I don't know what build quality means exactly. Form factor and battery life don't matter.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

      Irrelevant.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      N/A.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Photoshop. No video editing or anything. Need gaming but nothing crazy.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Would use for strategy games and RPGs. Games like Divinity: Original Sin I & II, Pillars of Eternity I & II, Football Manager, Total War all on a good FPS. I would love to play Baldur's Gate 3 but they say that won't run on current consoles so it's probably too intensive.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

No. Would rather spend that money on making sure I can run games.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

About covers it. Photoshop and RPG gaming for as cheap as possible that will last a few years at least. Nothing else really matters.

    Thanks for any help!

    Choosing between Lenovo Y540 17'' (9750H/1660Ti) or Metabox Alpha-X NH58RC (9750H/1660Ti)

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:23 AM PDT

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a new gaming laptop around 1500 euro (1.640 US dollar)

I have narrowed down the search to two options:

    Lenovo Y540 17'' (9750H/1660Ti)

    • Intel® Core i7 – 9750H – SIX CORE
    • 17.3″ FULL HD IPS 144Hz
    • 16GB DDR4-2400
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti dedicated
    • 1 TB [M.2, NVMe]
    • Wi-Fi 4.2

    Metabox Alpha-X NH58RC (9750H/1660Ti) rebrand Clevo

    • Intel® Core i7 – 9750H – SIX CORE
    • 17.3″ FULL HD IPS 60Hz
    • 16GB DDR4-2400
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
    • 1 TB [M.2, Via PCIe, SSD]
    • 2 TB [2.5", Via SATA, HDD, 5400 rpm
    • Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) + Bluetooth 5.0

Link to the ofbrand Clevo in my country: https://www.alternate.be/ALTERNATE/Gamer-Starter-17X984-GTX-1660-Ti-i7-17-3-inch-laptop/html/product/1553489?lk=17177

Secondary questions: Should i upgrade to the RTX 2060 with mostly the same specs and spend the extra buck for longevity? The price however bumps to 1700 euro (1850 dollar).

or should i wait another couple of months for the prices to drop considering the upcomming releases in 2020?

I'm looking forward to you advice.

    Thanks in advance.

PhD student looking for a work laptop (using for photoshop, bioinformatics software, data analysis software, videoconferencing, general use(office, netflix)) ~1000 USD

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:21 PM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

~$1000 USD (in the us) but this flexible

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
      performance->build quality->battery life, 2 in 1 is unnecessary
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Lighter/thinner is a plus since I bring to and from school, but not a deal breaker
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      ~15 inches
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
No gaming. Will be photo editing, bioinformatics and data analysis software eg IPA, graphpad
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      not gaming
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
num pad, backlit keyboard, enough usb slots (usually use a second monitor, flashdrive, and phone charger), touch screen is a plus
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I tend to open a lot of tabs and windows when doing work/looking at different journal articles/making presentations/having netflix on on a separate monitor so something that can handle that would be great since that's the problem with my current laptop (hp envy x360). so probably want an ssd too.

    Thank you!! :)

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

-again just want to play Sims 4

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

My current laptop will not download origin which is needed to play The Sims 4. I would only be using it to play the game. I'm interested in refurbished model, and I can't choose between generations. Which is the most value for my budget, without overspending just because it's newer. If a gen 3 or 4 will suit my needs It would save me money. How prudent is it to get a newer model, is it that big of a difference for the basic use?

Programming, daily use non-gaming laptop, up to 1800€, Lithuania/Germany

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:46 AM PDT

    Hey, guys,

so it seems like I've started going in circles trying to choose a laptop and hope someone could help.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Up to 1800 Euro, Europe, Lithuania (Germany might work too).
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      Refurbs work.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
    1. Performance
    2. Build quality
    3. Upgradability / Battery life
    4. Form factor (ultrabook or workstation, not really looking for a 2 in 1)
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not really that important, would like a portable machine though to carry in a backpack.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      13"-15" (<15.6)
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      n/a
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      n/a
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Keyboard with decent travel, touchpad and display are probably the most important.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I had my eye on Lenovo X1 Carbon (7th gen) and keep coming back to it, but the performance doesn't seem would be a big upgrade from my current Y50-70 (i7-4710HQ, 16GB ram, 256SSD). Looked at P1, but it's pricey and the 1080p screen seems to be lacking. T480 screens look quite poor and while T490 might be an upgrade it looks a bit pricey for what you get. However, since upgradability is quite important, I'm leaning towards T490 over X1 Carbon. Operating system doesn't really matter, would probably prefer Windows after 12 years of Linux :) Would even consider a MacBook Pro if it didn't have that touchbar (had that at work and that's a really huge disadvantage). So, in short:
      • i5-i7 (wondering if i7 throttles and end up in same performance with busier fans in the end)
      • at least 16GB rams (heavy Docker, IDEs, browsers user, usually go over 16 when working)
      • SSD size doesn't really matter that much, even 256GB works

    Cheers!

Asus tuf gaming fx505DU or Asus Rog Strix 3

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 02:31 PM PDT

So I have 2 options to choose from Asus Tuf with a Ryzen 7 3750h Nvidia gtx 1660Ti 6GB 512gb ssd 16gb ram

    Or

The Rog Strix 3 with Intel i7 9th gen Nvidia gtx 1650ti 8gb ram 512gb ssd

The thing is is that I am a bit worried about the ryzen 7. I have heard that people get frame drops with the Asus tuf fx505 with the ryzen 7 while playing games like fortnite. So maybe I should go with the Strix 3 because of the i7?

Which laptop has better cooling Legion Y530 or the Asus TUF fx505dt?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:01 AM PDT

I have a tight budget and I am really confused between these two laptops as I plan to use it for at least 5-6 years. Therefore, I am really concerned about which one of these has a better build quality and more importantly whose thermal management is better.

I personally prefer the Asus one as it has better specifications but I can choose either one of them.

    Thanks!

Is there any new laptop with user removable battery available?

I am looking for a new laptop and having a user removable battery is important to me but it seems that most laptops do not have this feature anymore.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      Under $800. US.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      Yes
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance is key. I use excel, graphic design apps, and need a lot of storage. Battery life is second. No hard preference on form factor, but would ideally not like a soft keyboard
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Light-weight and thin are ideal but not necessary.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      Larger than 13".
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      Gimp, InDesign, Excel
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      N/A
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Good Keyboard, RAM, processors, and battery life are the most important. Touch-screen would be nice but not necessary.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I haven't been in the market for a new laptop in 8 years, and I have no brand preferences.

Looking for a middle-range gaming laptop that will also be used for video editing, graphic design, etc... Buying in Canada

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:49 PM PDT

    Hello everyone!

As you might have guessed from the title, I'm a graphic designer by trade, and I suspect I'll be doing some remote work either for the company I work for or as a free-lancer for the foreseeable future.

I've seen a couple posts here with similar titles as mine recently, but I also think I have specific needs and inclinations that are explained more clearly in the form that make this a slightly different case than those.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
I would be looking to spend anything from 800 to 1500 $CAN, and I'm buying from Quebec, Canada.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      Yes, absolutely.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I'm not too certain what the ultrabook category entails, but I'm not looking to have a fancy laptop with 360 hinge or touch screen. I'm used to the basic kind of stuff. Battery life doesn't need to be amazing, as I'll be working from home most of the time.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
As far as thinnes goes, I don't mind a thicker laptop, but I would prefer not to end up with a 15lbs machine. It still need to be fairly portable.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Anything above or equal to 15". I'd like to have more real estate than too little.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I will be using most of the core Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) but I intend on using mostly After Effects and so I'll be doing a lot of 2-D, maybe a bit of 3-D rendering on this computer.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I don't really intend on playing triple-A FPS, GPU intensive games, so I'm definitely not looking to pay extra for something like a 144hz monitor, or anything too fancy regarding pure gaming performances. The straw that broke the camel's back for me to want to change laptop was Age of Empires Definitive Edition, and that will probably be the most demanding game I will be playing for a while. Other games I'd like to run are Hollow Knight, Blasphemous and maybe a bit of Civilization 5-6.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I've been using a MacBook Pro for the last 10 years, so I'm used to a fair build quality, but that would be the only thing I'm looking for on this list. I just don't want something that scratches too easily of feels cheap. As a side note, I'm not too interested in buying form Apple, unless someone makes a really good case in the comments.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I'm not a big fan of the RGB keyboard, sharp angles design on most gaming laptops available right now (I know this might sound a bit picky but this will also serve as a work laptop, so I need to be able to present projects to clients and partners and look professional at least a little).
One last point I'd like to throw out there is (and I don't know if this is even a thing) but I would also be interested in investing in a low carbon footprint product. So if there is a company that specializes in refurbishing or building custom laptops from used parts I would definitely be interested in looking into those.

Thanks to everyone here in advance, this looks like a great comunity, I can't wait to hear from you guys and gals :) !
