- Help! What is this on my laptop screen? Is it fixable? Thanks.
- Yep, it’s absolutely playable. Using Intel UHD 620 graphics only. World of warships @1080p 35-40fps with a mix of low and medium settings. Laptop used is a HP Probook 650 G4 with i5 8350u with 2x 8GB 2400MHz sticks of ram.
- Sometimes I have to ask myself out loud why do OEMs have to use such lousy thermal paste.... especially on laptops that have such limited cooling.

Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:37 PM PST HP Pavilion 15 gaming cx-0660ng So I've bought a HP Pavilion gaming laptop with: I5 8300h Gtx 1050 8gb RAM I want to upgrade to 16gb of RAM, but it says only 8gb of RAM is supported. I find this weird, because other versions of the notebook do have 16gb of RAM. Also my laptop has two RAM slots each with 4gb in it. And I think the other versions of the laptop have the same motherboard. So what's the problem and can I upgrade my RAM to 16gb? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:17 PM PST Hi guys, I plan to buy a new laptop around 500/600€ for March. It should be able to have 512 Go, 8go ram, pretty OK for music mixing/production. Also maybe age of empires things like that. I like nice screens and thin computers. What i dont need : touchscreen, fingerprint locker, good webcam, upgradable RAM if performing well on its own. I was think about Huawei Mate D and Honor laptops. Honor is huawei entry products. I think the huawei was ok with the launch offer (Earbuds offered) but now its gone i don't think i would pull the trigger for the 650€ version, and the 599 version (256 GO) is not enough storage + honor magicbooks launching in march should do the job. SO do you guys think the Huawei is worth checking out ? Or the Honor is a goodbuy ? PS : i'm in Europe [link] [comments]
Got sent a refurbished Laptop I didn’t order Posted: 01 Mar 2020 12:48 PM PST Hi there, I recently purchased a TV from Appliances Direct. They didn't sent me a remote though so I made a complaint and was told one would be sent to me. However they just sent me a refurbished laptop. It's not very good mind but I'm confused whether this is curtesy or something it has my name on the package and box etc just very confused. [link] [comments]
Anybody know how to fix this? :/ Posted: 01 Mar 2020 12:43 PM PST I've got an Asus Vivobook X540M. A few hours ago I was on YouTube until my laptop suddenly gave a blue screen. It said stop code: memory management. It then went into automatic repair, and a few mins after the screen was black. The only thing I could see and move around was the mouse. I turned it off n back on again and it just got stuck on an automatic repair loop. I went on YouTube on my phone looking for answers, and searched online. My laptop has a non-removable battery, but it said on tom's guide that it can be removed. So I took off the screws on the back, lifted the panel or whatever it's called and removed the battery. It said to hold the power button for 60 seconds after it's taken out. The problem here is that there isn't a button I could press.. idk how this thing works but the power button was the only thing able to power it on, there's no button there i can press. So i put the keyboard on, held it for 60 secs, put the battery back in, and let it charge. It ended up fully charged and I tried pressing the power button. Nothing comes up, not even the mouse pointer, BUT, I did see the white light I usually see when the screen is meant to be on. And when I charged it the battery light on the side was working too. A person said that it would be best to let the battery drain like that while the bulb light (which shows the screen is on) is on at the side and then try holding the power button and then charging it n stuff. Another comment said it worked for them the next day?! (Hopefully the same happens to me :/) I've tried YouTube but it doesn't really help.. does anyone here know how I could fix this? And thank you so much if you do reply, I'm really stuck right now, I have an essay due soon too :/ [link] [comments]

Dell G7 7590 Fan Control Issue & G-Sync Posted: 01 Mar 2020 09:51 AM PST Bought this G7 7590 (i7 9750h, rtx2070mq, Gsync SADLY) in September last year. Besides the poor battery life caused by Dell's unadvertised Gsync feature that I didn't know of with the 90whr version, I noticed a weird thing with the fans. Even after a clean install and straight out of the box, the fans would start being stuck at 47% no matter what even if I had set it on Quiet profile with temps being at modest 46 degrees to 58. See a picture of the issue in Alienware Command Center https://i.imgur.com/S4X5zDW.png I have made a new profile that forces the fans at 0% and would only make them kick up once temps would reach 85 degrees, I generally prefer losing performance from thermal throttling than have loads of noise. Currently that's the only way to shut off the fans when they start to randomly get stuck at 47% speed. I switch to this "Silent" profile and they instantly turn off but shortly after I close Alienware Command Center (Sometimes even if I don't and I just switch to another program) they stir up to 47% yet again. I have no idea what to do, I've had multiple reinstalls of AWCC and OC Control bits or whatever and nothing solved it. The only large issue I have with this machine is the terrible fan control but even that would have been okay if only fans didn't have their own secret logic. Performance has been absolutely stellar and with a steady undervolt and fan cleaning sometimes I've seen no need to repaste. Build quality is decent after being thrown in a bag every day for 6 months, though the gap between the right part of the screen and the deck is a bit wider than on the left since day one, consider that as an assembly issue. Funny that here in the UK Dell has also decided to add Gsync to the only 90whr battery gaming laptop they sell currently which is a waste as battery life is reduced to about 4 hours ASSUMING the lightest of workloads. Gsync was never mentioned in the specs, listings, technical manuals and was only shown here: https://i.imgur.com/Be04bif.png. Sure, the 2070MQ can have Gsync but there was no mention on whether it supported that through Display Out or built-in screen as NOWHERE on the internet have I seen this machine or any from the G series have Gsync. Anyway, going back to the fan control issue, does anyone know how I could get this thing to behave properly on Quiet and custom 0% fan curves when temperatures require no fan speed? Laptop for architecture students Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:50 AM PST Hi guys, I'm a DevOps engineer but don't know too much about hardware so I don't know what to buy but I'll understand what you're saying :) My girlfriend started studying architecture and now needs to buy a laptop that can run some heavy 3D software like Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop etc. I really liked the Microsoft surface pro 7 or maybe the surface book 2 but I have no idea how to assess whether or not it'll run these softwares (I know the book 2 have different variants depending on which processor you choose and screen size so either one) So, first of all I'd appreciate it if someone could show me how to tell if specific specs can run specific programs. Memory and storage are pretty straightforward but how do you compare graphic card and CPU? If someone can also tell whether or not these 2 different Microsoft surface devices (pro 7 and book 2) can run softwares like I've listed above. Thank you so much. [link] [comments]

Looking for a CPU update for my Clevo W540au, current one is an i3 5005u Posted: 01 Mar 2020 09:23 AM PST Hi! I have a Clevo W540au since 2016 now, I don't feel the need to change it, especially because it would be pricey, but am wondering if I could find a nice CPU replacement for the i3 5005u that came with it. Could I put an i5/i7 in there? From a tad newer generation maybe to make it more power efficient? If I put something from a newer generation I guess I might need a BIOS update though, and I have no idea where I'll be able to find one if it even exists. I believe am posting in the right sub but please tell me if you have any other idea of where to ask or if am not in the right place. [link] [comments]

Why is nobody talking about the Lifebook U393X? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:25 AM PST I was just wondering, why nobody is talking about this ultrabook and I am looking for experiences: My use cases: - University (2-in-1 is a must): Notetaking, doing summaries of scripts etc., light programming (B.Sc. Computer Science) -Work: Office stuff, programming, doing presentations, taking notes in meetings, creating diagrams (e.g. UML) and visualizing stuff etc. - Private use (at home and on the go): programming, netflix, web browsing, office So I basically need a good 4-core (8 threads) CPU, 16 GB of RAM, 2-in-1 or detachable with digitizer functionality Since yesterday I was thinking about the Surface Book 2 due to the practicality of the detaching feature especially to write summaries and learn for university in public transit and during lectures. I was thinking about buying one used as soon es the SB3 is announced and the price drops, but now I found out about the <1kg Lifebook U393X and was wondering whats wrong with it as I see only very few reviews and even less reports of experience. On paper the device looks perfect for my use cases and even new it's way less in price (1350€) than a Surface Book 2 used. I read a few reviews pointing out a bad battery runtime and a mushy keyboard but others were claiming the opposite. Any experience and/or thoughts on the Lifebook? EDIT1: I want to emphazise the importance of the <1kg for me, due to the fact, that I am often carrying around a backpack and duffle bag for university stuff + work stuff + stuff for sports, so every gram less is very much appreciated. Cheap (£200-£300) but long lasting laptop just for studying purposes Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:52 AM PST Hey guys, i really don't know much about laptops which is why I'm here I need to find a laptop that's around £200-£300. It doesn't need to have any fancy features. I just need it for studying (which only consists of accessing online resources, Microsoft word and PowerPoint). The only thing that I really need the laptop to be is long lasting as my university course is 5 years long so it needs to last the whole 5 years [link] [comments]

Lenovo Yoga C940 15inch vs HP Spectre x360 15 inch - both GTX 1650 Posted: 01 Mar 2020 03:27 AM PST Hey folks, Since I am looking for a new laptop I have a question on these two. Currently the Yoga is available for 1699€, with i7, 16gb RAM, 1TB ssd, GTX 1650 maxq, full-HD. I value build quality, screen and battery life, as well as a decent performance (for occasional games in between) at reasonable acoustics. The yoga seems to deliver that. Now I read that the HP spectre x360 is going to be released soon in similar specs. My question: will the HP be better (quality, screen, performance, battery) and would you wait for it? Also, does anybody already have this machine and can give a short review on it? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
